Thursday Thirteen #12

Well it has been gorgeous out here in Orygon the last couple of days. WARM! In May! Stunning! I love summer. It is by far my most favorite season. Some of my favorite smells come are tied to summertime and that got me started on today's 13. Now these are in no particular order and this is by far not all of them, but here we have 13 of my favorite smells!

1. Cut Grass - It just smells so much better in the summer. Particularly sweetgrass or hay. Love it.

2. Rain on hot pavement - By far one of my all time favorite smells on the entire planet.

3. Sulfur from fireworks - I love the 4th of July. I was denied fireworks as a child by my Virgo Nurse mother. She stood by me and my sparklers with a hose. I kid you not. Now I am a pyro on the 4th. Bigger! Louder! Illegal! Wait...that sounds like my sex life with the Ex Boyfriend Variety. Georgia sex laws are so archaic...

4. Poison, Drakkar Noir, and sweat mixed - See #3

5. Fresh ground coffee beans - I love the smell of brewing coffee but standing over a grinder and smelling fresh ground coffee is Mana of the Gods.

6. Peonies - My favorite flower

7. Laundry hot from the dryer - Ahh Downy.

8. The Ocean - I love the ocean. I like the brisk smell of our oceans here in Oregon, but I admit I like the softer version you get in the summer or in tropical locations.

9. Books - New crisp books, old musty books...you name it I love the way they smell. Books are the bestest.

10. Hot Tar - Another of my favorite smells. It reminds me of childhood. For some reason there was always tarring going on of the roads by my grandparents house.

11. Pine - Especially at Christmas time.

12. The way it smells outside in the evening on a humid day when things cool off- Boy is that a hard one to describe! If you could smell it when I smelt it you would know what I mean.

13. Lavender - Another of my favorite smells. I would love to live in a french lavender field. Like this!

I love the scent of rain on warm pavement and water from a warm hose too!

You have some of my favorite smells listed.

I love to add a drop or two of real lavender essential oil when I put fresh sheets on my bed. Makes it feel like you're sleeping in that French field!!

Blessings

Mama Kelly

PS my 13 are up

loved the list :)

I love the smell of grass but it sends me into an asthmatic fit.

Ok, I am totally the hose by the sprinkler mother and my husband is the pyro. Our first year as parents I would not let my 1 yr old daughter hold a sparkler and I thought he and his mom were gonna faint!! I let them now but I hold my breath the whole time.

As for drakkar noir...my husband had a HUGE bottle an ex had given him not long before he and I got together. The above-mentioned daughter poured it all out into her toy kitchen one day. We had the nicest smelling apartment in the city!

What a great list! I totally agree about rain on hot pavement. For the longest time, I thought that's just what rain smelled like. My husband told me it was wet pavement smell a couple years ago and I just blinked at him. "Smells like rain to me," said I. Anyway. I concur.

Those are all great smells, but I have to add another: the smell of fresh baked bread. Mmmm. Gets me every time.

Ohhh such good smells! Love all of those but hot tar. ;) HappyTT

I love the smell of fresh cut grass. Don't get much of that here in the scorching desert.

Yes, yes #9! My first job ever was as a shelver in our public library. Sometimes, I'd stand in the stacks, close my eyes and breathe deep. Oh, and I love the smell of B&N...books and coffee, aahhhh.

I live in Or-y-gun too, so #12 I gotcha and I do love #8, except near the Sea Lion caves.

Splendid list.

Oh I love so many of these smells, especially Rain on hot pavement, old books, and clothes fresh from the dryer, but I would also have to add Vanilla to the list. :-)

I love to sniff books, very old or super new. I'm glad to read that I'm not the only one. If I tell people I get a weird look most of the time...
Thanks for visiting my food TT!

Great list of smells. I think I agree with all of them. The tar brings back memories of my elementary school. I love the lavender! Thanks for sharing your list.

My first ever TT was about my favorite smells. 1 and 2 were on it.

I'm on a lavender kick right now. Love it.

Desert my fellow Aquarian, I totally knew you would get 12. Your brain is programmed funky like mine :P

Matt-Man said...

I like everything you listed except the peonies. Peonies are not a fave of mine as result of an incident that took place in my 20's with some peonies, a can of Cheez Whiz, and a dominatrix named Brunhilda. Cheers!!

Starrlight said...

Holy shit, Matt. I'll bite. Do explain.

Cheese Whiz?!

You realize there is a blog post in the explanation :P

Accept for the Tar I can agree with most of those smells. Although Tar does remind me of summer, I just can't stand it.

Happy TT, and thanks for dropping by mine.

Sparky Duck said...

I love the rain and tar smells. I will have to try that drakkar poison mix thing sometime.

Starrlight said...

Go for it Sparky, just not with my ex :P That would scar me for life!

I love the smell of rainsoaked leaves. Honesuckle and Vanilla top my list of smells though. Great list! Thanks for sharing.

What a super list! I have never been to Oregon, but it sounds like a beautiful place at the moment! Happy TT.

Great list! I love most of these too. Rain on hot pavement reminds me of summers and being out with my friends on our bicycles. I live fairly close to the ocean so that one is one I can get quite often. To bad you can't remember smells, only the associated emotion.

Wow. I have to say if I were going to make this list, I think I would have the exact same things on it. Amazing. Nothing smells like coffee or freshly cut grass and the book thing, well....i've always secretly wanted to aprt time job at the book store just because I LOVE the way it smells in there!!!

Great post!! Thanks for stopping by my site :)

Happy TT- Jessica The Rock Chick

Lots of great smells! I like the smell of tar too, I think that is what it is, that is on telephone poles, the kind that you can pop ~ the gooey stuff. lol

Especially love the peonies, ocean, and lavendar, and rain... ahhh...

:-D

the smell of rain on greens gets me excited for some weird reason...must be cause I'm a Fall baby :)

Danica/Dream said...

I love these! Except for #3... cologne just makes me gag.

Perri Nelson said...

Nice list of odors, although I have to disagree with the hot tar. I'd substitute the smell of methanol and burning rubber, or nitromethane and burning rubber.

Not So Anonymous Michelle said...

AWESOME choices! Rain, fireworks and cut grass, laundry and the ocean are some of my absolute favorites too!

Great list! Lavender is one of my favorite scents too. I usually have a vanilla/lavender candle burning in my bedroom.

My number one favorite scent would have to be my Knight's pj top. :o)

Thanks for stopping by and visiting me. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I thought I was maybe the only one to like sulphur from matches and fireworks. Great list, I may have to steal the idea. Come visit my TT if you get a chance!

This is a great list! I was with you right up to the hot tar - but, you know, it reminds me of my childhood, too! Our playground was covered in tar. Boy, did I ruin some dresses at recess when I was in gradeschool! Hope you have a great week, and thanks for visiting my blog.
