Feelin Good

I know there are several of you that don't "do" Idol. And I totally get it. It's an obvious money making farce. But if you have never watched or even listened to some of these kids y'all gonna have to pardon my saying it but, um... Shushy. Cause if you don't take the time to listen to these three songs, well heck a doodle (Bond!!) I ain't gonna give your opinion the time of day. And I swear I say that with love. Really for real lovies.

Cause really? I used to be one of you. I mocked the HELL out of Idol for the first 3 systems. Too cool for school and all that shiz. But when I moved in with my parents while the condo was being built I watched it with my Mom. Mom is hardcore old school Idol. And she pretty much called the winners correctly going back to Miss Kelly. Ain't no way mom was missing Idol. Her house, her remote. Damn glad it worked out that way.

Season 4 featured Idols first "rocker." A long haired Alabama Southern Rocker. If you are a fan of Skynyrd I can not imagine you not loving Bo. His version of the Allman Bro Whipping Post was damn good. I was lucky enough to get a hold of Bo's old groups CD and Holy Shit. It's as good as anything I ever heard. Bo had some serious health issues after Idol that impacted his career. But he is healthy and happy and has two kids now and his own studio. His latest album is 100% worthy of anyones music library.

Season 5 was kinda a hangover season for me. Chris Daughtry obviously picked up the standard from Bo. That was a pretty decent season for me but nothing like Bo. Elliot, Melinda, Taylor and Chris were it for me. McPhee...eh.

Season 6. Holy Shit did this season suck. SO hard I nearly didn't watch season 7. Yawn yawn yawn.

Season 7. Thank God for David Cook. Cook is, like Bo, the real thing. Both are musicians and songwriters who have paid their dues touring. David was my favorite from January on when we first met him. When I went online and found his pre Idol music. I was sold. You like 90's rock? Miss an actual honest to God no frills guitar driven rock song? This is it. I FLOVE Cook. To use Messageboard Speak.

That brings up to the current crop. Sorry Randy, Paula, Kara (STFU) and Mr. Mean but this is NOT the most talented group. Hell to the no. But it does not really matter because this season features Adam Lambert who just might be the most amazing thing to hit Idol in, like, ever.

Keep in mind I adore Cookie but Adam just might win out on the Idol scale and this is the finest song I have heard in 5 years of Idol. Mom says EVAH. Now granted Adam is NOT subtle. He is glam rock bless his sparkly little soul. But current. And...this song was covered by Muse. And does Starr like Muse? Oh yeah we know she does (TOUR YOU FUCKERS!) and I have to say, Adam's version ownz their asses not by a little but by a frickin country mile. Adam is the spirit of Bowie, and Freddy, and Plant and Prince all rolled into one very unique package. Put it to you this way I would refuse to marry anyone who did not love the Glambert. I'll buy any album that boy puts out. Fuck that, I'll buy two.

What's Up?

So it has been a long week. I worked concessions BOTH nights. Monday went to work, Kidlet had migraine. Tues and today Kidlet has super sore throat and a low grade fever. So today we take Kidlet in for a strep test. Yippe Ki-Yay.

I have SUCKED hard at visiting y'all and writing on this for the last several days. Call it mental overload and a rather unseemly addiction to Gossip Girl. Yes I know. Sorry but Chuck Bass cracks me the fuck up and I wish I could redo my Brit list and add Ed Westwick to it. He's adorable and plays that sleaze wonderfully.

Speaking of sleazy, Kara Di Gagmeo needs to get the fuck off of my Idol stage. She babbles about artistry and emotional connection way to fucking much. After last night the only judge I care about coming is....Paula Fucking Abdul. Dawg, Artistry Twat and Simon can go. Simon is totally capable of giving dead on criticism. He is just not very subtle at the manipulations he pulls to get his chosen finale. And I think he is bored and it shows. Paula, God Bless her, might look like a drugged out crustacean but she was with it last night.

And Adam Lambert kicks ass. I might just end up loving Adam more than Cook. Just because American Idol totally needs an out of the closet, in your face, pink staircase working, citizen from Planet Glitter as a winner. And he made me love that 4 Non Blondes Song. Which is, in many ways, far worse than Cook making me love a Mariah Carey song. What's Up is like the My Heart Will Go On of the Grunge set. But Adam in a cabaret wearing a sparkly Bowie shirt has full on won me over.

Rule Britannia, Britannia Rule The Waves - TT

Ah Great Britain. My dad was born in England. My grandmother Eileen spoke like Queen Victoria. And since I apparently never spoke a full sentence until I spent the day in her company, you could say we clicked.

She is the reason I am pale. Yes indeed, Eileen informed me ladies never tanned, Oil of Olay is a god send (it is, I still use it) and one must own Gone With The Wind in hard back. She was the seed of my Anglophile. Cause they have far better history. I often fantasize about saying screw it and moving to London. Really! And let me tell you Kidlet would be on that idea like white on rice.

Books - Chaucer, Shakespeare, Austen, Waugh, Maugham, Joyce, Thomas, Wilde, Brontes x3....I mean really. Most of my favorite authors are English, Irish, Scots or Welsh.

And music? Yeah, I love all sorts of music. But hands down, I am owned heart and soul by the Brits. The from the first British invasion lead by The Beatles, Stones and Kinks to the later 90's version ala Oasis and Blur to Ska - all three waves, British punk, Goth, New Wave, New Romantic, House, Madchester, and all of 90's Brit Pop...it does not get better than that for me. And of course my favorite band is Irish. Color me Green, Orange and White =)

And Devon Cream. OH.MY.GOD. Scones with Devon Cream and strawberry preserves. Do you know I pay 8 dollars -EIGHT- for a tiny jar of the stuff from the import store? Oh yes I do and I make myself a big pot of tea and Kidlet and I get our Edina and Patsy on.

Kidlet has a huge fondness for mash and peas. Seriously I could feed her that for dinner three times a week and she would be happy. Oh and Yorkshire pudding...oh my.

And then, well, then there are there men. Yeah yeah we have good looking Americans. Clooney, Pitt, Gyllenhaal. And Johnny Depp is still #2 on the all time hot list. But the British Isles just produce a different breed of men all together. They seem to have a lock on seriously great jawlines. And #1 on this list is the King of all Jaw Porn ;0

#1 Rob Pattinson. Let's see, reads Virgil, plays piano and bumped The Depp from the #1 all time spot. This is my wallpaper at the office. A couple times a day I minimize everything and just stare at pretty Rob until I am calm again. Unwashed Hobo? Um, yes please I'll take one.

2. James McAvoy - the man managed to make the word "widened" one of the hottest things I have ever heard. And he was funny as hell in Wanted. Damn, now I wanna go watch that movie again.

3. Stuart Townsend - The fact that Charlize Theron looks the way she does should be enough for one girl, but she gets him to boot!

4. Ewan McGregor - I love me some Ewan. He likes to sing, be naked, he's gorgeous and talented. What is not to like?

5. Hugh Dancy - Lucky Lucky Claire Danes

6. Gerard Butler - Scots Wa Hae!

7. Damon Albarn - I will tell you the real reason the Gallagher boys are pissy. Cause Damon is not just wildly talented and versatile, he owns their asses in the looks department.

8. Joe Anderson - This is who should play Kurt if they ever do a Nirvana film. The kid not only looks like him but he is a damn good singer and actor.

9. Jonathan Rhys Meyers - The Ballad Of Maxwell Deamon indeed. I LOVE JRM. He is awesome as Henry on the Tudors, but I loved that Dandy look in Velvet. That's an awesome movie and features 3, count them, 3 from this list. Ewan, Christian Bale (but so not hot in it. That hair.) and JRM

10.Colin Firth - Two words. Mr. Darcy.

11. Clive Owen - I love Clive, especially in Sin City. He has that whole handsome and cynical shtick down perfectly.

12. Jude Law - I don't care if he boffed the nanny he is still hot.

13. Christian Bale - Too bad he spends so much time in that damn bat costume. But it beats the hell out of his hair in VG.

Turn Me Off

Just a quickie cause I was out yesterday and I am swamped. More on the auction tomorrow. LOVE these two songs. First one...hey...that guitar sounds familiarish.

Audrye Sessions - Turn Me Off

The Virgins - One Week Of Danger - These guys are playing for KNRKs I Saw Them When shows and with tickets costing me 12 bucks WITH fees I do think Kidlet and I are going to see them. They have a very Kinks vibe. And I loves the Kinks.

Got Sore Feets?

Cause Kidlet and I do. We had a long day yesterday. Dentist and PT and shopping for the Art Auction and then selling concessions for Kidlets DC trip at the school play. We did great! raised over 140 bucks in just one night. Kidlet and I are going the play next Friday night.

Tonight is the Cascade AIDS Project Art Auction. We have our foo foo clothes and are flip flops for walking to and from the grand shin dig. Tomorrow we go back for wrap up work and then we get to back to school and work for some rest :P

TT 13 Songs I Think You Should Hear - My Kingdom For A Kiss Upon Her Shoulder

So apparently Thursday Thirteen as an institution is dead. But I like the idea so I am gonna just Keep On Rollin to quote REO Speedwagon. Yeah I went there:P I like the limitations TT provides me. I don't do limitations well on my own and we all know I already cheat.

This is yet another post wherein the Starry One inflicts upon you my well considered opinions on music. These are songs that I highly highly doubt get play on the radio with any frequency if at all. And the list include Strummer x2 which is always a good thing. There is no such thing as too much Joe.

Jeff Buckley Lover You Should Have Come Over

Iron and Wine - Southern Anthem

The Posies - Golden Blunders

The Clash - Spanish Bombs

Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros - Mondo Bongo

The Pogues - Lorca's Novena

Men At Work - Overkill

Charlatans UK - Blackened Blue Eyes

Blues Traveler - Crystal Flame ...my favorite BT track, period =) Can't find video but you can check out the song
here.

U2 - An Cath Dubh/Into The Heart

The The - Uncertain Smile
- Matt Johnson is a frickin musical genius.

The Dandy Warhols - Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth

Lou Reed - Satellite Of Love

Why Would I Blow Up The Chick Fil A? It's Fuckin' Delicious!

Observe and Report is also fuckin' delicious. In an oh so very "Did they go there?!?!" kind of way. This is not your average Mall Movie. This ain't no Paul Blart Mall Cop. Oh HELL no. Not by a long shot. To call it dark would not really be correct. It's hysterical. Just in an incredibly out there and violent kind of way. Seth Rogan is NOT a warm lovable loser. He is Travis Bickle with less of an IQ and a higher body fat percentage. He is totally, 100 percent, Pure D bug fuck crazy. And he is hysterical. And violent. And hysterical. There were moments I knew I was going to go to hell for laughing over.

Ray Liotta is a riot, Anna Faris is her usual awesome self as Brandy the Self Medicating Slut. Micheal Pena is so much of a caricature that it is genius. There is not a single life redeeming moment in this movie. These people do not have that movie magic wand waved over them and become "whole" and God Bless writer/director Jody Hill for having the honkin balls to deliver this movie. Two Thumbs Hella High Up from Starr. And the pervert...oh my god.

Go see it.

Other than that on Friday, I worked for 5 hours or so on Saturday (Kidlet was at the beach with her dad for American Easter) and then yesterday I watched nothing but Testes Movies as I call them. Armageddon, The Road Warrior, Terminator, and The Running Man. I feel so manly :P

Do You Know Your Enemy?

Tonight Run Forrest Run aka Kidlet and I will be heading downtown for training in for the Cascade AIDS Project Art Auction. Auction takes place Saturday the 18th and we are working registration from 4:30 -9:30 that night. Should be fun. Getting Gimpy Girl downtown? Not as much. CAP is in a funky spot in downtown PDX and I have got to find a decent spot to drop her off so that she does not have a hell of a trek. Then I have to find parking. Yikes. But we get to eat downtown. I am feeling like Greek food so I think we may hit the Greek Taverna. NO ...The Marrakesh! Oh yes the 5 course dinner with the soup and salad and a brochette of lamb. Hell yes. I love that place. Kidlet will literally spaz out if I tell her we are going there. Oh yes and belly dancing. Beats Hells Kitchen. Sorry Gordon. Training runs from 6-730 and then it's Moroccan food for us. They have the best mint tea and they pour it in a most cool way.

On that note I am off to fine food in the cafe and I leave you with 90 seconds of the new Green Day single. They did a one off surprise concert in San Fran on Tuesday. Right after Kidlet leaves. She is not amused.

Me loves this.

Ignorant Ass Bitches on Message Boards

with their shelacked on make up and 80's frosted curls can fuck off and die. That is all. This mini rant brought to you courtesy of numb cunts on the web.

Wordless Wednesday

Ok so, some words. I am hooked on this song. That is all :P

Someone Call The Ambulance, There's Gonna Be An Accident

That, my friends, is Kidlet's theme song. Guess who sprained her knee and dislocated her knee cap?! ON AUCTION DAY!!

Yeah.

We finished up the auction at 5 and I checked my phone....8 missed calls. Oh Lordy. Mom got her and her dad got her medicines. She is on some hardcore anti inflammatory and vicodine for the pain. And we get to go to our favorite Bone and Joint clinic Doc on Tuesday.

It was really bad this time. She has had the kneecap slide off before, we both have for that matter. This time...it didn't go back on it's own. So she is in a big old brace for a bit.

I didn't win a thing at the auction but we will have raised over $28000 for our charities! Our CEO matches what we raise so each of our two charities will get a check for around 28k. One was a food bank and one was an intensive in patient program for severely abused pre-school aged kids.

We have about 30 minutes to tear down the stage and clean up before the next event rolls in and then we headed upstairs where our CEO and our COO -who is also our executive sponcer for the auction AND the poor woman we dress up every year - have an after party for us. Finger food and beer and wine and of course we talked shop. This year our theme was "It's a jungle out there, people" which happens to be a favorite saying of our CEO. Whom we adore. OH...and he gave the committee folks 8 hours of vacation time =)

Next year is our 20th auction. We are thinking Roaring 20's.

Next up, Kidlet aka GimpyButt aka Danger Prone Daphne and I go for training for the Cascade AIDS project Art Auction at the convention center later this month. Training is this Thursday and the Auction is the 18th. We get to get all purdy'd up in black and white and register people and run their cards to register them for their auction bids. Should be fun =)

Just for kidlet....this is my ringtone for her :P
