2009 Musically Speaking

Ta Da!!!!!

I post therefore I am. Kinda.

It's that time of year again wherein I list out my favorite music of 2009 with an emphasis on newer bands. It goes without saying that with new albums from U2 and Green Day and Muse released in 09 that Kidlet and I were pleased. Add to that the epic soundcheck front of the barrier concert experience and you could say we reached the mountain top this year.

Now we have U2 and Muse in 2010. Woot!

Now then. In years past I have done this as a Thursday Thirteen. Which was fairly ridiculous as I never listed just 13 songs. Cause that is just a stupid low number and I hate playing by the rules.

Now then, on to the music. Good year! Damn good year! In addition to U2, Green Day and Muse's new albums which rank in the fuh duh catagory on the whole did ya like it question. Aside from Da Big Three, here are some other songs I really dug. And yes some albums were released in 08 blah blah blah. Fuck Off Music Snobs. Damn Dirty Radiohead fans :P

Now these are in no particular order outside of the first two which tie for my favorites songs of the year.

#1 and tied for my DAMN I FLOVE THIS SONG award: Fireflies - Owl City and Ain't No Rest For The Wicked - Cage The Elephant. How do I love thee? Let me count the iPod plays ;)

Seriously. Awesome music here. Fireflies is one of those songs that just puts a smile on my face whenever I hear it and Ain't No Rest puts a shake in my ass. And really, what more can we ask of our music than that?

Let's check out the ladies this year next. Again, DAMN good year! So good I felt compelled to give female artist and chick fronted bands their own section.

Lily Allen - The Fear and Fuck You. These songs are like musical crack. It's snotty, it's catchy and she has a dirty mouth. I like it!

Katy Perry - Ur So Gay, Hot and Cold, and Waking Up In Vegas. That's right. Katy Fucking Perry. I ♥ Katy. Although to this day I have to say I still hate I Kissed A Girl. But the above is a trifecta of fun music. AWESOME driving songs to sing to, particulary Hot and Cold.

Estelle ft Kanye - American Boy. There is something about this song that just stuck in my brain. It's fun and breezy music with surprisingly naughty lyrics. There something about it that reminds me of Joe Jackson's Steppin Out.

Ting Tings - That's Not My Name. First time I heard it I hated it. Second time I heard it I was pissed I did not hate it. Third time I heard it I was converted. Again, puts a shake in the ass.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero. Any song that wants me to put my leather on is A-Ok with me. Seriously though, this album is awesome. Buy it.

Noisettes - Never Forget You. Rule Fucking Britannia! With Amy, Duffy, Estelle, and The Noisettes I do believe we all owe them a big old kiss for reviving the classic retro Spector/Motown/Stax sound. This song, with it's chiming chorus, is one of those that will make sing Karaoke with your hairbrush microphone while putting on makeup. Another awesome band people should be checking out.

Florence and the Machine -Kiss with a Fist. Further proof that the Brits are doing something hella right.

Raveonettes - The Last Dance. The Danes are not sucking either. This is the most awesome song. It was very high on my list. Imagine a sunny Jesus and Mary Chain with a chick singer. With harmonies. WIN.

Morningwood - Best of Me. I just love this band. First of all, the name makes me smirk. This song is damn near as catch as Nth Degree.

Doll and the Kicks - Red Carpet. Opened for Morrissey and I bought their album. If these guys do not get signed something is horribly wrong with the music business. Had to go Youtube for these guys. She is Siouxsie Sioux and Karen O and Gwen Steffani all rolled into one. And damn good bass! I am a bass fan.

And of course Woman of the Year....Lady Gaga. Kidlet was into her way before the masses. I have to add that or she will sneer when she reads this. Where to start with The Lady? Just Dance, Starstruck, Bad Romance and my favorite Poker Face. Anyone who bluffs with her muffin and admits it is ok by me!

The best of the rest time.

Cage The Elephant - Back Against The Wall. I flove this band. That is all.

Airborne Toxic Event - Some Time Around Midnight. We have ALL been the dude in this song. I love the slow build on it.

Kings of Leon - Use Somebody. God Bless KoL for reviving Southern rock sounds. Thanks. Y'all.

Eminem - Crack A Bottle and We Made You. I ♥♥ Marshall.

All American Rejects - Gives You Hell. Just about the best damned snotty kiss off song I have heard in ages. Truly a musical Oh Snap.

Foo Fighters - Wheels. Of course I just dig the Foos in general.

Black Joe Lewis and The Honey Bears - Get Yo Shit. Oh my God is this good. The horns! The blues! Memphis Stax reborn! Had to go YouTube for this one as well.

Weezer -If You're Wondering If I Want You To (I Want You To) and Who's Your Daddy. Rivers is made of awesome sauce and I LOVE that long ass titled song to death.

Carolina Liar - Show Me What I'm Looking For. The chorus sing along of "Save me, I'm lost" raises the hair on my arms. Great album.

Vampire Weekend - The Kids Don't Stand A Chance and the new one Cousins. I love this band. They are fucking quirky. I dig quirky.

Gaslight Anthem - The 59 Sound. Another new band for me this year. I likes their sound.

The Virgins - One Week of Danger. This song was theeeeees close to make it a Menage A Trois at #1. So very funky.

Spoon - Got Nuffin. Awesome bad with a new album due for 2010.

Two Hours Traffic - Jezebel. So yeah the song is older than 2009. But no one has heard of them and I just founds them. So shut it. Great band go check them out. http://twohourstraffic.com/

Audrye Sessions - Turn Me Off. Really a great year for fresh new music. I want to hear more from them. Had to go YouTube here as well.

Hockey - Real Fake. He sounds snotty. I find that amusing.

Big Pink - Dominos. This is fairly new and oh my do I love this song. It's swirly. I dig swirly.

Death Cab For Cutie - Meet Me On The Equinox and Grapevine Fires. Every year, Ben makes my list. Grapevine Fires is one of the lovliest songs I have ever heard. Zooey is a lucky girl.

Franz Ferdinand - No You Girls. Kick ass song and they are really great live.

Cobra Starship - Good Girls Go Bad and Hot Mess. One of my favorite new bands of the entire decade. Such awesome dance music. And damn good in concert. Fangs Up!

Pearl Jam - The Fixer. Perky Vedder is hella scary but the song is great.

Monsters of Folk - Say Please. Oh man, awesome album. A must for any alt country, alt anything music fan.

Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johansson - Relator. Yes that Scarlett. Awesome song =)

John Mayer - Heartbreak Warfare. Well the entire album, Battle Studies John never lets me down

And finally a look at the big three. First up U2.

I still quite like Horizon as a whole. Stand outs are Magnificent, Breath and Stand Up Comedy.

Muse - Uprising and Unknown Desires stand out for me but the entire new album kicks it.

And last but not least, the album I was most pleased with from 2009, 21st Century Breakdown from Green Day. I think it is 100% the equal of American Idiot and pickig a favorite song is damn hard. Top three for me would have to be East Jesus Nowhere, Peacemaker, and the Gloria's. And Last of the American Girls. And Murder City...see? The whole damn album. Word.

What It's REALLY All About

I hope you all have wonderful holidays with friends and family =) I wouldn't be pushy Starr if I did not ask you all to stop and think about yours, mine and ours extended family. Thanks to all of you who helped us this year with the walk and signed those annoying petitions I posted ;)

Jury Of My Peers? NOT.

Don't count on it people. Seriously. My opinion of the human race has gone down. Who would have thought that was possible??!?!

The basics of the case was meth possession. The defendant was all "That's not meth and crack pipe! My friend ...no wait we are not friends just co-workers - well but I was drunk celebrating my "not a friend's" new car - and and and, I was drunk, but my "not a friend" does not do drugs - I have no idea how two packs of meth and a pipe were found on us!"

Who knew there was a Meth Fairy?

Honestly, both lawyers in the case SUCKED ASS. All I could think when I was there was "Damn I thought these people would be smarter. Smoother. Have a better command of the English language than me." Uh....not so much.

My fellow jurors...fucktards for the most part. My favorite was the hippy bitch, the poster yuppy for white guilt, and the "I wear a tinfoil hat and fear the police state" Lexus owner. LONGEST two days of my life. I drank both nights. BOTH.

Tinfoil Hat Man at one point told me to piss off. At which point I told him to get fucked sideways in a tree. Oh God, and then there was this professional juror with Carol Brady's hair and an obviously HUGE collection of fashion color Lady Leisure Suit. GAH.

It was the final nail in the coffin of human survival as an option in my mind. We are gonna go the way of the dodo's.

My daughter is cooking us noodle soup! We both have tiny baby colds trying run us down. To hell with that. I have been told my inate stubborn streak will not subdue a virus. I refuse to buy that :P

Ghirardelli chocolate is yum. That is all.

On a final note - Shine on, John.

This Is Not The Post You Are Looking For

So, like, I'm a slacker? Uh ..yeah. I was laaaazy all weekend long. ALL weekend. And I LIKED IT! And frankly I just had absolutely no creative juice in me for a blog post for the day. We shall try for Tues. Thursday Thirteen will be a good one courtesy of my dad and his politically incorrect and tasteless limericks. Questionable taste runs in the family :P

Tuesday I will give you all the jury duty details.

Wednesday - Hell if I know

Friday - You will get a link To MSM where my Morrissey review will be living :P

With that...I am back to my book!

Thursday, December 03, 2009

Aww Crap

So, like it's nearly 9pm and I just realized I have no post ready to go. Probably slipped my mind post Jury Duty with FUCKING MORONS. I have to go BACK tomorrow. Grr.

And I can't talk about it of course at least until we are done.

But then? Oh yes. The Starry One will have much to share. Tomorrow we are having Salmon and I think au gratin potato for Kidlet's birthday at my parents. Plus she gets her grandparental presents. Saturday I have a candle party at her BFF's house then I take small child home and then I get to come home and Blog. And have beer.

Jury Duty

Oh yay. Well at least I have my book and my iPod. Hopefully I will just sit there all day and they won't need me. I can listen to Cherry and read!

In case you are wondering it's the new King and it is freaking ginormous and I wanna start reading it NOW. But I am being good. Writing my little piece of crap post and playing on Cafe World and Farmville. Watching SYTYCD. Group number is using one of my favorite Billy Joel songs. That would be pre Brinkley cause that bitch done killed his mojo dead. Uptown Girl? /shudders

OOOO....it's Glee Night! Yippers!

That's it for tonight folks!

Teenagers Scare The Living Shit Out Of Me

Oh my. I have to write a blog post for Wednesday. Uh.....shit!

Well first off, today is Kidlet's birthday. The old bat is now 15 years old. (Just kidding, chile!) I am dropping off a card and chocolate covered cherries with her breakfast on Wednesday. We are going to do dinner at my parents Friday night for her birthday party and presents. I think she wants a giant pan chocolate chip cookie instead of a cake. The girl does things in her own weird little way. Wonder where that comes from ....

Prodigy on So You Think You Can Dance. Oh my. Russell, Legacy and Ellenore are leading my list of Me Likey this season.

Oh Lord, Idol commercials. How are they gonna top The Glambert?

Let's see. Saw Mozza last night. Mozza is no where near the douche you might imagine him to be. He is really pretty freakin cool. And the opening band kicked ASS. Like Major Freakin I Am Gonna Buy Them Ass.

They are called Doll & The Kicks. They are from England and they were worth the price of admission. Doll is frickin adorable and the girl can sing her fringe covered ass off. Doll & The Kicks

Full review of said Concert coming up next week over at Music Savvy Mom. This weekend is Blog Weekend. I have to do the Morrissey write up for MSM, start on my decade in review and come up with my end of the year favorites. Although I might cheat and do that one as the post for 2009. Yeah...oh yeah, I am gonna cheat.

I have no idea what's up with my appetite these days. I just don't have one. I eat because I have to. The only thing that sounds really good is soup. And apples. The Honey Crisps and Pink Ladies are out now and they are damn good. Get this...I did not finish my pecan pie on Turkey Day. I didn't have room. WTF is up with that?!

Tonight I had Pho. 5 bucks for a huge bowl. And Jasmine tea. It was awesome.

Oh fuck me running, the weather dweeb just started talking about "very cold weather" on our horizon. I swear to god if it snows like last year I am gonna burn the building down.

I am not amused by the upcoming Glee hiatus. Not. At. All.

This has gone hell random as far as posts go :P

With this semi coherent and truly pointless post I leave you all with the Hella Random playlist. First up on the list I am sending out a wink and nudge dedication to the Kidlet for her Birthday.

j00 don't scare me, Widget!

World AIDS Day 2009

2 thousand and freakin 9. And we still have no cure. I originally posted this back in 2006 and, like that band that played on, it is still needed today. A side note, my thanks to all who donated to the AIDS walk. I was able to raise over $800 and I could not have done it without you all =)

Support World AIDS Day

You Got To Do What You Should

December 1st is World AIDS day. As a Gen X'er I have pretty much grown up under the specter of this disease. No free love, or swinging, or love the one your with (or whoever's keys you fish out of the bowl) for my peers and myself. I remember hearing about AIDS for the first time as "GRID." Dan Rather looked somber and they had one of the medical charts that shows a heart rate. The tie in on that was always a bit hazy for me, since the end all, be all, do all result of this disease seemed to be NO heart beat. I remember the gay bashing and the bigotry that came with it. I remember the hysteria over things like drinking fountains.

I remember Ryan White, I remember Rock Hudson, I remember Bobby Campbell. I remember the sick feeling I had watching people protesting with signs saying they were "dying of red tape." I remember being very proud of the people in Act Up for the Wall Street demonstrations. I remember a rather unpleasant dinner conversation with an uncle who worked for Burroughs Welcome.

And I remember the faces of the people I took care of who were dying of AIDS.

From 1989-1991 I worked in an inner city hospital on the medical floor as a CNA. The hospital was located in a trendy area popular with Gen X'ers, artists, young families with children looking for a more urban lifestyle, and the gay and lesbian community. It also had a large housebound geriatric population and a growing homeless population.

In 17 months, I saw faces from each of these groups die of AIDS. The drag queens, the artists, the elderly, and the children were all represented. I remember the grandmother who beat cancer but died a year later at 83 from the blood transfusions she received. I remember the street people who died. At times, we didn't even know their real names. I remember the hemophiliac kids who were still fighting the disease when I left. I remember the street kids - teenagers- and their combative attitudes when given their diagnosis. It seemed impossible to them that they were 16 and would probably die before they reached legal drinking age. Can you blame them?

I remember Tony, who's family would have nothing to do with him. In their minds, AIDS was gods punishments for gays. Tony was a sweetheart. He was a stylist. His last words to me were some heartfelt advice on my hair and it's complete lack of style. Had he been able to give me the "do" he had in mind, I am sure I would have conquered the world. We were the same age. He was 22 when he died.

I remember Ollie and his love of Haagen Daz blueberry and cream swirl ice cream. I remember his love of papaya. I remember nearly falling over when he came back to visit us before his final relapse. He was back from Hawaii with papayas in hand. He was gorgeous. The last time I saw him he weighed a bit over 90 pounds while standing over 6 feet tall. I could carry him like I did my daughter. When she was two.

I remember Robert and the amazing bead work he did despite the fact that AIDS left him blind. He made the most intricate Indian moccasins. I remember walking in the AIDS walk the year he died. It was dedicated to his memory.

Most of all I remember Neal. And his cigarettes and how he nearly burned his bed down trying to smoke one. I remember the bags of Hershey's kisses he'd have his SO bring me every time I was scheduled to work. I remember his love of clear high heel pumps with the goldfish in the heels. That man could make me laugh like no one else. I miss you, Neal.

I remember the 20+ funerals I attended. I remember holding the hands of men with no families present. I remember both comforting and being comforted by life partners when death finally came. I remember the kind woman who was volunteering at the Names Project who was there with a hug and a box of tissues when I found the quilts of three of my patients and burst into tears looking at the ordinary reminders of lives that were gone and people who were no more.

I remember when the AIDS death total finally exceeded that of the Vietnam War. Over 58,000 dead from the virus. That was then.

Today, AIDS has killed over 30 million people. 90% of them in developing countries where kids die every single day from lack of medicines that cost less than your average candy bar.

Our politicians are only as good as we make them be. Hold them accountable. If enough people stand up and demand they do something about AIDS and all the stupid poverty related deaths that could be avoided, they will. Remind them that it's not about charity, it's about justice.

The changes we need may not happen tomorrow, or next month, or next year. But if we keep making noise, they will happen, and maybe todays kids will not have to live in a world where a child dies every three seconds from AIDS and poverty. Make noise for these people. Make noise for my kid and her friends. Make noise for your kids or the children in your family.

Please visit One.org and sign the declaration.

Just Give Me What I Want And No One Gets Hurt

Oy, another Turkey Day down, now I just have "The Yule Season" to get through. Eh.

Kidlet's birthday is Wednesday and we are trying to nail down a time for her dinner and presents at my parents. Monday night we see this charming man in concert.

Mozza! I am excited.

Let's see. Turkey Day redux. Food was awesome. Pecan Pie was awesome. It is the King of Pies. Um, the Family Tattoo was fun and their baby was adorable.

Black Friday I worked and then took the soon to be 15 year old to Victoria's and let her get her shop on. Which she did. I gotta admit, they do have some purdy bras. I went for the perfume. Got me a new one and I LOVE it. I wish I could have gotten the foo foo parfume version instead of the body spray but alas it was not in the budget. But it is soooo yummy.

Saturday was of course the day of the Cat. Harley has IBD and he has chronic or recurrent pancreatitis. Long day and expensive. He is now on weekly B12 shots, a special sick fucking expensive food and all sorts of other fun meds. Yippee!!

Update on Blogfest for all of those interested. Dates are shaping up as either July 11-21st or 17th-28th. Hotel info is available on the Facebook group site. Holler if you all have any touristy ideas.

Is it sick and wrong that I am looking forward to sitting quietly at my desk tomorrow? Uh yeah.

Why is there shit on TV tonight (Sunday, I cheat and write early) and there are no decent things on Demand I want to watch. Bah and pleh. And dinner should happen but I am feeling uninspired. Soup!

Oh Snap! The Rock Hall of Fame Concert is on HBO. Metallica as a backin band for Ozzy and Ray Davies.

And U2, Bruce Springsteen and Patty Smith doing Because The Night. Damn. Bruce and Bono doing Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For was amazing. And fuck me but Fergie brought it on Gimme Shelter with Mick Fucking Jagger. Amazing performances.

Aww, Jagger and Bono doing Stuck In A Moment is pretty damn win too.

HOLY SHIT. I had to edit this to add that Tom Morello is a fucking guitar God. His solo at the end of The Ghost of Tom Joad is un-freakin-believable.

Speaking of Mah Peeps, guess what I got in the mail this week? My U2 tickets!! Am I excited? Why yes I am. Summer is looking good for next year. It just needs to get here already :P

Same Freakin Moore and the Boss doing Hold On, I'm Comin kicked ass as well. Then again Sam and Dave kicked ass in general. I am so going to need to buy this DVD.

Black Friday!

I whipped up a playlist with the help of Belle for the day. All black all the time. Check it out at Music Savvy Mom.

I have rethought the whole decade thing and I refuse to talk about a lot of the SHIT that made the top of the charts so it is going to be MY decade. And it was a fucking surreal one so be prepared :P

I am working today and taking the child to Vickie's Titties for birthday shopping after work. Then I am going to go home and crash on my couch and start pondering this decade shit. Oy :P

I leave you with a picture from yesterday.

Beer, Glorious Beer

Yeah I think tonight we are going to go back to the tried and true beverage of choice.

Harley comes home tonight. He sees the specialist on Saturday. I think a visit to McMenamins is on the horizon. I need a pint and cheeseburger. Ok two pints. When you take a xanax and that fails to relax your ass, you have issues.

Tomorrow is turkey day. I get pie. That is as much as I can get excited about this week. Pie. And beer.

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Harley Update

Not well. He was on Thorazine last night and threw up 5 more times. He's still at the regular vets on IV's while we see how he is doing. He sees a specialist on Saturday. Kidlet also not well. Something about your cat repeatedly trying to die will do that.

As for me I would like to be knocked out for, oh say, a month.

Monday, November 23, 2009

Blah blah blah blah blah

Got to spend the evening at the emergency vets AFTER small child had to be picked up at 2 with a migraine. Everyone crapped out on me today!

So my head hurts. I want to eat the entire bag of chips that is sitting on said small child's lap. But I am being good. Rather have a Xanax anyhow.

And that, is that for this post. So much for getting a jump on the decade review!

Blow Me BobaAnacharyFett

I have a rant incoming but first a disclaimer. To all my readers penises...or would that be peni?...anyhow, this is NOT directed at you even if you don't like Twilight. And for the record I like peni. Well - in theory I like them *all* but in practice there is a lot of variability. That's another post.

*Visions of Groundhog's Day fill my head*

Anyhow this rant is directed at the Code Red, gaming, perennial virgin Fan Boi crowd on Box Off Mojo. You know the ones I mean. Their screen names are generally some fucked up abortion of Star Wars and/or The Dark Knight (CHILL FANS! I think we are all clear that Starr worships at the alter of The Batman, I am merely annoyed at it's uber fans) and who's greatest sexual conquests are of the cyber variety.

And quite likely with a freaky guy named Dewey pretending to be a woman :P

These wee miscreants need to lighten the fuck up. So Twilight/New Moon are making a fuck ton of money. So they beat your midnight record. So they are colossally stupid. SO ARE YOU. I am sick to death of these little fuckers running down female oriented movies. News Flash, asshats, a great deal of your Sci-Fi shit is just that. SHIT.

See shit, schlock, drek and cheese are equal opportunity. Burying your head in the sand and talking about how a movie won't have legs cause it has a teeny bopper female audience is annoying, insulting and frankly - fucking retarded.

Remember that Big Boat, motherfuckers? Yeah we still pwn your box office all time record with that little female driven vehicle.

I'd wrap this up with a "suck my dick" but I fear the irony would be lost on the target audience :P

Her Timing Is Quite Unusual

Kristen Stewart's Chin is going to haunt my dreams tonight. I just hope and pray that Chris Weitz has directed New Moon with more flattering camera angles than stoner betch Catherine Hardwicke.

I already know I will be spending the vast majority of this movie looking at AppalaCHIN girl and the dog boy. With the occasional ghosty images of Rob Pattz to keep my ass in the seat. And then I have to get up at 7 and be to work AND IN A MEETING...at 8:30. Zombie girl is my new nickname. I can tell I will be mainlining java tomorrow.

Kidlet and I are just getting ready to take off. I am going in pajama's. Don't care if that makes me a slacker. I will be a comfy slacker.

Oh and bonus of the midnight movie? I have a reason to drink coffee at Midnight!

With that I leave you Train and Meet Virginia =)

None But Ourselves Can Free Our Minds - TT

Seeing that I have been embracing my inner randomness (that's fancy talk for being lazy) I figured why not just roll on through the week that way. So I am taking the easy way out and doing a Cherry Darling the iPod Shuffler Queen playlist for you. With a tiny bit of info about each artist or song.

Take it away, Cherry!

1. Nice first choice. Redemption Song - Bob Marley. It gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it. According to Bob's wife, he was aware he had cancer at the time that he wrote this song and it's impact on the lyrics is pretty obvious. The lines "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds" were taken from a speech by Pan Africanist Marcus Garvey.

2. How Soon Is Now? - Love Spit Love. Well this one is easy peasy on the trivia. It's a cover of a Smith's song and of course this version was the theme song for Charmed. I loved that show =)

3. Give Me Novacaine - Green Day - HAH! Green Day trivia time! I didn't have to do jack or shit for this one, all I had to do was ask Kidlet! Who was Green Day's first drummer and why did he quit? Answer in the first comment.

4. Everlong (Acoustic version) - Foo Fighters. Ok here is some trivia for you. For the longest time I liked the Foo's but not really. Does that make sense? It's cause I was carrying the Grohl Grunge Grudge. Kinda like "The Wrong Beatle Died" grudge so many people had. I am over it. Huggles to Dave :P

5. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - U2. HAH! U2 trivia! What was their original name? Answer in the first comment. Oh and *I* will find what I am looking for on June 2oth in the Church of U2 =)

6. Sad Sweetheart of the Rodeo - Harvey Danger. Well here is a bit of local trivia for you. My favoritest DJ ever, Greg Glover owns the record label that released Harvey Danger's first album, Where Have All the Merrymakers Gone? That label would be Arena Records. My DJ pwns your DJ.

7. I'll Be You - The Replacements. Here's a bit of info for you. If you don't know The 'Mats you SHOULD know The 'Mat. Yes I just went all Radiohead Fan Music Snob on your asses. Deal. Westerberg is God. This is totally a Desert Island Song. I would probably put this in my Top 20 songs ever.

8. Cry Cry Cry - Johnny Cash. Want me to be super sweet and toss out an easy bit of trivia? What was Johnny's nickname? See the comments ;0

9. Get Off My Cloud - The Rolling Stones. Ok so this is really not Stone's trivia this is more Starr Trivia. I find it IMPOSSIBLE to sing this song and NOT sing it like Bob Dylan. Go on, try it. "Hey! Yeewwww! Get offa mah .....clowwwwwed!"

10. Ruby Soho - Rancid. Pop quiz for the punk rockers in the house. What band were two members of Rancid in prior to forming Rancid?

11. Someday We'll Know - New Radicals. Here's a sad bit of trivia. By the time their hit "You Get What You Give" really took off the band had already imploded and broken up. The album Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too remains one of my favorite 90's gems.

12. Enter Sandman - Richard Cheese. Tuxicity! What is there to say about the musical genius that is Richard Cheese? How bout all the band member's last names are Cheese related aka Gouda, Feta etc.

13. No New Tale To Tell - Love and Rockets. Quick! Name the two other bands that David J and Daniel Ash played in! Hint...think Black.

Well I Guess This Is Growing Up

So last night was random crap. Tonight is stoned crap! Yes courtesy of work issues I had a right nice migraine building. Starting with the steak knife in the left eye routine.

Watching V. I love Evil Wash. But I probably need to stop thinking of him as "Evil Wash" shouldn't I?

Argh a friend on Facebook is talkin Pho and now I am have a jones for Pho. I love Pho. It is bizarre that a bowl of soup can be THAT filling.

The FBI chicks son on V looks like a porky version of the lead singer of All American Rejects.

And now I wanna here Dirty Little Secret. See the sad ass way my brain works? I suffer from Pop Culture tourette's. Those Bing commercial is NOT funny =(

Yesterday's Playlist was rather popular! I am going to be doing my year end musical wrap up a bit differently this year. For one thing I am skipping trying to make it a Thursday Thirteen. It will be much longer and will probably be divided up into a couple of days as well as by established bands versus newer/Indie bands.

For two, I may just decide to be IN FUCKING SANE and do a decade wrap up. Cause let me tell you this has been one hell of a decade. I mean I am flying high on opiates right now and even THAT is not taking the WTF factor out of that look back.

So, I might decide to do a year by year 2000 (Y2K OMG!!) through 2009 wrap up. Say 10 songs per year. Ballsy I know. But I'm a giver and for my faithful followers I think I just might bite the bullet and do it.

I just told my daughter that when she makes Duckface she looks like Miley and I got to live. That is AMAZING. But she really does. Sorry Kidlet!

Kidlet is looking through our collection of bathroom pictures. Yes. Bathroom pictures. You see when we go on our drives we end up in a lot of public restrooms. And sometimes we take pictures. But only if the restrooms are of above average interest. Like the SUPER breezy one and Yaquina Head lighthouse. Back draft takes on a whole new meaning there. Insert blow job joke here :P

Anyhow we have some fascinating shots. DOUBTFUL any of you will ever see them :P

I found Citrus Sage candles in Camas last weekend! They are my all time favorite candles. Between that and my Nag I am in Perfumey House Heaven.

Tomorrow night is Glee!!!!!

Oh my. So much for Evil Wash. I like V. I'd like a rebooted Firefly more. I know I know.

I need to step away from the Facebook Flair. Yes I do.

And with that final thought I leave you with my Hella Random playlist that I have, in a hella random manner, just added to!

All Right, Everybody Be Cool, This Is A Robbery!

So I woke up and realized, HEY....no post! So much for Monday, eh?

So...Hello Tuesday! I have jack and shit for you today because I am a slacker like that so you all get a post of random shit from my brain.

Watching House. I kinda miss The Team V2 over The Team V1.

I am having HARD CORE pecan pie craving and I have to wait over a week.

Bah. Hum. Bug.

I will be seeing New Moon this Thursday. I know I should be ashamed to admit that but strangely enough I am not. I love my cheesey Twi Goodness. Except Jacob. Team Jacob is made up of people with hideous taste and a hidden bestiality kink. Uh...and sorry if that applies to any of my friend. I ♥ you anyhow.

I really am digging on three new bands. Hockey, Florence and the Machine and The Big Pink.

I can not STAND Cameron on House. She is such a sanctimonious twat.

I do, however, dig the closing song. It's called Where Did You Go? by a Canadian indie band, Jets Overhead. I likes it.

I just watched Pulp Fiction last night and now I just want Tim Roth to start hollering about a robbery on Lie To Me.

Now I want to know why I don't own Fun Loving Criminal's Scooby Snacks. That is just wrong. You know what else I don't own? Banditos by The Refreshments. Damn!

Fixed the above two glaring omissions from my iPod.

Damn it is windy out there tonight!

With that I leave you with the new bands I am grooving to. Also keeps your eyes open for news on Music Savvy Mom. We are expanding and your's truly will be posting there more often =)

I Watched With Glee As Your Kings And Queens Fought For 10 Decades For The Gods They Made

I feel the need to have a tiny baby rant over the whole explosion in popularity of Vampires and with that the attendant bullshit comments about Goth.

First of all, hasn't Emo run its fucking course yet? Does anyone still give two shits if Jared Leto sings? Really? Can we get a break already from these pasty little things with hair that looks like it was cut by a drunk midget with a Weed Whacker?

I know, I know, my sad ass will be in a theater 1 week from tonight at Midnight to see the premiere of New Moon aka Twinkles The Vamp. I KNOW. Damn. But now it has just gotten out of control. True Blood...yeah I know the books are popular, never liked them much myself but I am going to try the show again.

But now we have this crap like The Vampires Diaries which appears to be The OC with Fangs. Just shoot me now. I prefer the good old days when the media though Manson was Goth and we were the root of all evil and the source of school shootings. In the 80's they pretty much ignored us :P

I love Bones. Midget Wrestling. Love it. And Fringe was awesome. Walter is awesome. I want a Walter.

Had my job eval. It was the usual. After, what, nearly 8 years in the same position there is really only so much variation we can get. I did get the Green Light to go ahead and move the Group delivery method to Electronic. Which means by Aug of next year I hope to be DONE with paper =) I am a Treehugger!!!

Seriously though, it will make me happy happy. I should go crash now since I have been SWORN to haul my butt to the doctors tomorrow for my labs. Got my Man/Bird/Pig H1N1 shot yesterday but I had to swear to be there tomorrow and fast. I spaced and took my damn meds yesterday. Oops. Plus I am scared Vinny and Desert will find me and kick my ass :P

Oh yay...the weather geek just said we get to add Cold Rain to tomorrows forcast of heavy cloud cover. Like the way they spin "Hey the weather is gonna suck ass!" into something less obvious?

Is it May yet?

Thursday Thirteen - Things overheard whilst driving in the Starrmobile.

1. "You know it's bad when you have curtains on your pedo van." - Kidlet. She is wise.

2. "I'm seeing what it's like being a dog. You are not really missing out on much." - Kidlet as she bites the seat belt and shakes her head.

3. "I want to get a shirt that says, 'We got dicks like Jesus!'" - Kidlet

4. "Cause if one blowjob from your mom is good, two must be better." On the mixtape that has Blink 182's blowjob on it twice. - Starr

5. "I almost fell over like a dead fish in front of Dairy Queen." - Kidlet

6. "What do you think monks wear under their robes?" "Monkties?" - Starr/Kidlet

7. "Coldplay is the musical equivalent of U2's wet spot." - Starr

8. "I'm tired of having a breezy crack!" - Long story, Kidlet's jeans were way too big and she was being overly ventilated.

9. "Bitch, hurry up before I ram you...which is probably more action than you've seen in a a while." = Starr

10. "Cupcake, you best commence to Motorin'!" -Starr

11. "Why why why must you merge onto the freeway at 40 miles per hour? You look like a fucking toad!" -Starr

12. "I can sing all pretty like the lesbians!" - Starr while singing along to The Indigo Girls. (Insert Emory lightbulb joke here)

13. "I refuse to apologize. I am a 40 year old white woman who likes Eminem. So suck my dick!" - Starr, whilst gesturing with the power finger.** - Starr
**Usually seen at rock concerts, meant to imply strong feelings

More Thursday Thirteen here!

She Talks About Closure And That Validation Bit

Well fuck me running I just realized I have no post prepared. I also have no freaking clue what to write about. Cause I am awesome like that. I do have a pretty good Thursday Thirteen coming up this week. It's a list of things you might overhear driving with me and the Kidlet. Oh yeah.

I have decided that Chow Mein is not really food. It is something, but not food. It just does not do the job of food. There should be no reason to be hungry and yet I am. We are watching a seriously weird South Park. Imagination Land. Strawberry Shortcake being attached by Jason from Friday the 13th and Cartman having dry balls. Matt and Trey are warped.

I like that =)

U2 tickets go on sale Saturday and I love the fact that the GA tickets are cheap. Love it. KNRK also announced their December to Remember concert series. Tough call between Vampire Weekend and Spoon.

Ok not really, Spoon wins that but I *do* like Vampire Weekend a lot.

Well I'll be damned. It finally happened. A movie where in Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire are brothers. That just HAD to happen, didn't it?

And since this was recently dropped back into my consciousness and I have tortured my cats AND inflicted it on my daughter it's your turn. The Geeks will remember this one, cause it's hella old school :P

I'm Impossible To Forget, But I'm Hard To Remember.

Well I had a nice weekend. Which is good cause I sure as shit needed one. I actually feel rested! I got nothing accomplished but I feel a hell of a lot better. Which is saying something.

Kidlet has school only on Mon and Tues this week. 5 day weekend. Sweet, right? I don't remember things like that when I was in high school. Then she has a normal 5 day week followed by Thanksgiving aka 4 day weekend. Thanksgiving we are being joined by the family tattoo artist, his wife and mom and baby girl. There will be green beans and pecan pie and lots and lots and lots of mashed potatoes. Which is the whole point of that particular holiday in my book.

Why does my tv line up suck so hard today? I am going back and forth on Elizabethtown versus Breakfast at Tiffany's. Probably because Moon River is in both of them and it is currently stuck in my head. Damn you Johnny Mercer.

Um...by the way, this was written Sunday day/night but not posted until Monday. Because I am a slacker and all.

Elizabethtown has won the day. I love this movie. I hate this movie. It's complicated. I love the fact that Drew wanders round going "I'm fine" over and over. Plus I get Claire. Hell most days I *am* Claire. Damn. Now I am going to want to load up the soundtracks and go for a drive. Unfortunately the day sucks. As most will from here until eternity aka May.

"I am taking this moment to tell you that I am untraditional."

Dinner is looking like it is going to be pizza. Which is what breakfast was so there is a nice symmetry to my day, ya know?

This post is seriously fucking random, isn't it?

Hey speaking of random, Devilish Southern Belle brought up an idea I think might be kind of fun. A group live blog movie review wherein a bunch of us (hint hint my email buddies) all rent the same movie, get bombed off our asses, hit a chat room and live review it. Let me know if this sounds interesting. Yes Jay you can wear the horns while reviewing ;)

I leave you with *most* of the songs from the two Elizabethtown soundtracks. A few are missing. I did find Summerlong on Youtube with film clips which is nice cause it is one of my favorite songs on the album. This gives you the general feel. Freebird is not technically on the soundtrack but it figures into the movie. Most creatively.

Dona Nobis Pacem Nov 2009

"No matter what part of the world we come from, we are all basically the same human beings. We all seek happiness and try to avoid suffering. We have the same basic human needs and concerns. All of us human beings want freedom and the right to determine our own destiny as individuals and as peoples. That is human nature."

I Know One Million Ways To Always Pick The Wrong Thing To Say

Watching V on ABC. Remake of the 80's miniseries. Not bad so far. Having both Inara and Wash from Firefly/Serenity in it makes me want to watch them both again. Think I need to pop those on Netflix. Why don't I own them? There is a good question. I need those.

Oh wow, it's Wednesday isn't it. So much for wordlessness.

OOOO....preview for new Glee episodes. I finally saw the Grease clip! Love it! Is it Nov 11th yet? Cause DAMN this wait on Glee is annoying. Nevermind Bones and Fringe as well. I have had my nightly TV amusement preempted and that does not make me a happy camper.

Apparently this is a stream of Starr consciousness post tonight. Lucky you! I turned off the tv cause I just could not focus on it. Listening to music instead.

Why the fuck are commercials so loud? Do these idiots not realize that we all have a mute button and that old concept of blasting their wares into our consciousness has not worked since the advent of the remote?

Sorry... that was a side rant :P

I am pondering another tattoo. Seeing that I will be in Atlanta and that my favorite and first tattoo artist is there I think I might have to get a third from Rob.

The question is what. I ponder. I ponder the mermaid that I have pondered for...let's see, it's nearly 2010 so that would be...yes 13 years. I think that means I have pondered it long enough! Of course that means finding the right mermaid. I could always go with Jezebel's (my fairy with horns tattoo) twin as a mermaid. Same artist there would be a certain symmetry in that. Now we see if any of my Blogfest friends are ballsy enough to get one with too ;)

I have decided to inflict my post titles on you all for reals. Providing I can find the songs! Today's was easy. One of my favorites from The Black Crowes, Bad Luck, Blue Eyes Goodbye. I do so love the Brothers Robinson. If you don't own Shake Your Money Maker and The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, your music collection is deficient. I give props to Kings of Leon, but The Crowes own their ass.

Give Me One More Chance And You'll Be Satisfied

Ummmm.............I got nothing folks. Seriously. Empty tank. My inbox was scary at the office. I missed both a Safety meeting and the first Charity Auction meeting. Bleh. I do, however, totally approve of the theme for the 2010 auction =)

I do have a rather interesting Thursday Thirteen coming up next week. No clue what useless crap I will exploit for Wordless. And of course we have Peace Globes this week.

Watching Basketball. I love this movie. The Matt and Trey man-kiss at the end is hysterical.

I am hating Daylight Savings time. It's dark when I get to work and it is dark when I leave the office. Yay. I have to say this winter is looking to kick my ass particularly badly this year.

Oh I DO have a spot on the charity selection committee. I, of course, will be pushing for CAP =)

OH! And guess who is coming to Seattle June 20th? That would be U2. Guess who will taking Amtrak to Seattle on June 20th? That would be me and my shadow =)

I'd Play With Fire To Break The Ice And I'd Play With A Nuclear Device

Happy November, People. Let the 2009 Holiday commercialized carnage begin!

I know that sounds cynical but I dare anyone to tell me I am wrong. The only good thing about the holidays is they tend to fly by pretty fast and pretty soon it will be 2010. Maybe this year we won't have the snow storm from hell and I can actually get a Christmas tree. Last year sucked although I must admit I had fun getting bombed and doing the live movie review.

I am trying to remember the Holiday schedule and I do believe this is my year for Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Although Kidlet's dad and I are pretty good juggling so she sees all her family. Plus Turkey day is good for Pecan Pie providing I whine enough.

Kidlet is much improved after The Great Hospital experience of 09. I ended up driving the girls around last night to a couple houses although Halloween was kind of a washout because of it. The BFF was dressed as Ozzy and The Kidlet was a Brunette Britney with flip flops and a Got Ouzo shirt and her hospital armband :P They got a decent amount of candy for only hitting 6 or so houses. Watched The Orphan. Not bad but I was pretty much ready to see the supposedly sympathetic mother whacked cause she was such a douche.

Mom got us some seriously awesome jewelry in Delphi. We will take pictures and I'll post them. Karma was in play as one of the Pendants mom got me was the ancient Minoan Bee symbol. Perfect for a Peace Globe Worker Bee. Click the bee to find out more about Peace Globes.

Hey It's Thursday!

I actually started a TT yesterday when I got home from the hospital but I got lazy and sidetracked. So uh....don't look to me for a Halloween TT, mmk? Want to know where you CAN look? Devilish Southern Belle and I are taking over Music Savvy Mama for the next three days to celebrate our personal favorite Holiday. Cause like you know I was not going to let it go unremarked on. They'd yank my Goth Card! Today Belle has up a Thursday Thirteen Playlist Shuffle that takes a look at Halloweens influence on Pop culture. We also put together a GINORMOUS playlist for you listening pleasure. If it is spooky, dark, goofy, and in any way shape or form related to Halloween or Horror movies books and TV...it's in there.

People we run the gamut from Bach to Jason's Segals Dracula's Lament. Cause we deep deep dark little chickies, ya know? Go check it out. I will know if you did or didn't and I will be forced to put a less than lovely spell on you :P

Go show lovies or I'ma smack ya!

Happy Out Of The Hospital Day!

We are home! Kidlet has showered, dined on KFC and is settling down to watch Talladega Nights. Her she is in all her ET Fingered Glory. Thanks to everyone for all the texts and calls. It helped me a lot =)
