Thursday Thirteen 15 - It's Something Unpredictable But In The End It's Right

Last week I gave you all a list of the 13 Sagitarrians I'd like to meet and hang out with. This week, it is my own signs turn. This would be one hell of a dinner party!

13 Aquarians I'd Like to Meet and Greet With

Billie Joe Armstrong - American Idiot indeed. Punk Rock and Eyeliner make one hell of a combo.

David Lynch - No wonder Wild at Heart made such perfect sense to me.

Tommy Ramone - Blitzkreig Bop!

Lord Bryon - Poet Laureate of the Goths.

W. Somerset Maugham - Willy Maugham is my peeps! This makes me smile Maugham is in my top 3 writers of all time.

Virginia Woolf - Well of course she is. This came as no suprise to me at all.

Lewis Carroll - He took the pill alright.

Mozart - Rock me, Amadeus

Clark Gable - Frankly my dear, we are glad to have you.

Gypsy Rose Lee - Shake it like a polaroid picture.

James Dean - My Birthday no less. Interesting trivia...his middle name was Byron.

Jules Verne - Another one for the 8th with me and Jimmy Dean.

Charles Dickens - Patron saint of the lost.

The Temperatures Rising, It Isn't Surprising

Cause I am blushing! Judd over at The Rising Blogger said way nice things about me and now I am all flustered :P

Oh and a Thanks to whomever nominated me. I'll get you my pretty, and your little blog too!

Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa

I admit it. I am a serious Internet quiz 'ho. And LAZY! Yeah I said it. Guess who has NOT worked overtime? That would be me. A three day weekend and I actually took it! Go me! Kidlet and I got a wild hair up our collective asses on Saturday and drove to the beach. We had just purchased new music and we were groovin on Nevermind. Had to keep driving so I said WTF and we hit Mo's for some Clam Chowder and shrimp salad. I mean really. If you are gonna drive around for the sole purpose of listening to music, you might as well spend that 70 minutes in the pursuit of good food, right?

The remainder of my weekend was spent dinking with the template. Yesterday kidlet and I went out for dinner and today we head to Chez MamaSan for Ribs, Chicken, Tater Salad, and PIE! I love pie. Currently I am sitting hear talking to all you fine people and flashing the kidlet. Why? Cause I can and it horrifies her. Scarring your children early and often is fun :P

**Update. Kidlet and Me and Social D. Just got tickets for the Social Distortion concert July 13th!**

Tomorrow we go back to the grind. Yeeehaaaaaaw. In the mean time I here are more useless information for you.

Hold This Thread As I Walk Away

I am the creamy white center in the middle of two Meme's. Oh was that raunchy enough? You can see from the post below that I am damned so I figured I better start bringin it!

First up is The Question and Answer Meme courtesy of Parlancheq (pretty sure she is damned too :P) and it is a mother honker one. Settle in folks I am gonna be burning up the pixels. Appropriately enough, this is my 300th post.

1. What time is it?

It is time for more coffee, is what time it is. Otherwise known as 1:45pm

2. What was the last thing you had to eat?

Well I have been trying to eat a subway sandwich for about the last hour but I keep getting distracted. Damn you Blogger for ruining my metabolism.

3. What is your favorite television program?

I am a huge HGTV 'ho. Love it. I actually like way too many TV shows for my own damn good. I am rotting my brain. Big favorites right now are both on Showtime. The Tudors and Dexter.

4. You can travel anywhere in the world; one destination per day from Friday through Monday. Where do you go?

Friday: New Orleans
Saturday: Savannah
Sunday: Atlanta
Monday: Atlanta - Sue me I like it there. It's central and I can import a bunch of my bloggie friends.

5. Who is your favorite character from a cartoon or comic strip?

Well dammit! One?! Screw that you are getting a two. I love the classics and of them all Batman is simply the shiznitz. And I have a long standing deep love of Betty Boop.

6. What would you like for breakfast?

For someone else to make it for me? Coffee is a must if people are going to live. Today what sounds yummy Eggs Benedict.

7. Who is the first public figure that comes to mind that you think is attractive?

8. Who, outside of your family and "God", has had the greatest impact on your life?

Honestly? That would be myself. When I finally got smart enough to listen to what I might have to say.

9. You retrieve a bottle floating in the water. What does the message say that you find inside?

It's true, you really were Hitler in another life.

10. What movies do you select {limit of six} for a one-day film festival?

Rocky Horror Picture Show - "I see you shiver with an...tici...pation"

Army Of Darkness - "Shop Smart, Shop S Mart "

O Brother Where Art Thou? -"I'm A Dapper Dan man!"

Velvet Goldmine - "Brian was elegance walking arm in arm with a lie"

Grosse Pointe Blank - "Don't tease me, you know what I do for a living"

Chocolat - "I'll come 'round sometime and get that squeak out of your door"

11. Do you have a hobby? If so, what is it? If not, what do you think would be of interest to you?

Writing, reading, and studying history and retroviruses.

12. Given the opportunity to travel back in time, when would your destination be?

Ok this is a total cock-tease question to ask a history buff. I'd love to hang out at the Globe with Willy Shakes and his merry band.

13. Vietnam gave us China Beach. M*A*S*H came from the Korean War. What will the name of the television series be that results from our current military affairs.

Extreme Makeover - Truth Edition

14. What is the last book you read?

The Moonstone - Wilkie Collins

15. What five people do you MEET in Heaven?

Um. Scroll down, mmk. There's a weenie roast in hell with my name on it. Now should I manage a fence jump over the pearly gates I would hope I would be lucky enough to meet up with Ghandi and ask his take on Ben Kingsley's turn in his shoes. I mean really. Yes good people die and go to heaven blah blah. I make it in, I want to have a nice leisurely lunch with His Godness and see just how far off mankind got it.

16. What five people do you VISIT in Hell?

All My Rowdy Friends Are Are Comin' Over Tonight! My posse will be there :P

17. What's the first thing that comes to mind when you see the word pleasure?

*checks pulse* Yup still have one. Sex. Duh.

18. Eliminating price and availability as considerations, what six things do you put on your list when you go grocery shopping?

So is this one stop shopping like we have up here in Oregon courtesy of Frey Meyers? Cause if we are talking a shop with anything in it that opens up some shit! Could I be a smartass and say "all the registers just before they are emptied"?

19. What is your favorite non-blog related link?

Snopes

20. What will the title of your life story be?

Does Not Play Well With Others

21. What three people alive today would you like to have join you for dinner?

Bono, Billie Joe Armstrong and Brian Molko. And my child of course cause otherwise she'd frickin kill me.

22. Which candle scent do you find most pleasing?

Yankee Candles Co Citrus Sage

23. What question would you suggest I include the next time we play this game?

None! Damn. Trying to fry my brain?!

All right! Feeling so virtuous now. Meme #2 comes to me from Hopeful Spirit and is the 8 Things About Me Meme. My habits and quirks, coming to a multiplex near you!

1. I have never seen The Sound of Music and I never will. I barfed a bit just typing that out.

2. I drink a lot of coffee. I mean a LOT of coffee. It is a wonder the Red Cross gets any blood out of me. I think they have to centrifuge out the espresso.

3. I have weird food rituals surrounding pancakes. I must have them after concerts and sex.

4. I read non fiction textbooks for fun. Actually I buy them not just read them.

5. I love football and action movies with much guns and violence. Jackie Chan is a bonus. They are going to take away my chick card real soon.

6. I drive to relieve stress or just for entertainment. Music loud, cold Coke, windows wide open. I love love love wind. I was a Lab in a previous life I am positive.

7. I never met my biological dad. Well at least that I can remember. Supposedly I am an interesting case study in nature vs nuture.

8. The first and last guys that I slept with were both Southern. They were also the only ones who were any good! Coincidence? Dunno, but here is hoping The South Rises Again ;)

Catholic School Girls Rule

Sex With Nuns
Are You Damned?
Brought to you by Rum and Monkey

Whether as a punishment or as a reward, the fates have decreed that you will spend eternity having sex with nuns. Better be careful though, they are 'Brides of Christ', and if he catches you at it he'll pull out your pubic hair.

Thursday Thirteen #14- Shoot That Poison Arrow

Ooohh first off, blogging from the comfort of the couch is quite nice! And creative since I have played with the design.

Now then, having taken time in the past to avail myself of net advice on matters of life and love I figured maybe some research was in order. According to the all knowing web quiz in that post I should date Gemini, Aquarius, Leo, or Sags. Now first off, Leos?! Are you nuts? About the only bigger control freaks out there are Aries and I do oh so very well with that as witnessed by the Ex-Husband Variety. Gemini's are interesting people. Married one of them too. That would be Ex- Husband Variety 1.0 vs the Aries 2.0. My rising sign is Gemini so maybe that explains why I am just not feeling it with the Gems. I can tell the way their minds are working and I no like it!

That leaves us Aquarius and Sagittarius. Interestingly enough the only ex's I still like were an Aquarius and The Ex-Boyfriend Variety who is a Sag. Sag's and I get along dandy. Kidlet is a Sag. Fire sign, yes. But I can work with them :p

So here is my list of 13 Sag's I think would be cool to meet and hang out with. Look for the Aquarians next TT edition. Oh and this is hang not necessarily date so don't get all excited if you see girls on the list. There will be no hot lesbian action here.

1 Henri de Toulouse- Lautrec

2 Mark Twain

3 Billy Idol

4 Jimi Hendrix

5 Winston Churchill

6 Jane Austin

7 Beethoven

8 Keith Richards

9 Jim Morrison

10 Lucy Lui

11 Wassily Kandinsky

12 Bruce Lee

13 Georges Seurat

Wordless Wednesday 15 Kihei Sunset

I'm Goin Mobile

Yes indeed campers this is Starr coming to you from the comfort of her COUCH! I have been bummin a place on Bond's for so long it's about time I provided my own house seat :P

Net be hooked up and laptop be laptopping. I am dead to the frick world courtesy of lack of sleep. Call it insomnia call it what you will. Either way you slice it I am seriously brain funky today! Oh and I have no half and half for my coffee. Or milk! Although I have said it before and I will say it again milk in coffee is teh suck.

Now I have go figure out a way to get all of my favorites imported from my office account to this one. Shit, and rip what...300 cds? Ouch.

Wanna know what is really cool? I can actually SEE my blog. Work blocks a shit ton of images including my profile and banner pics. Bastards :p

More later other than a fast heads up for Desert. Guess who just produced Andrea Corrs first solo album? Your boy Bono!

I Could Have Sworn You Were An Angel

Sheet. Now I have Divine Thing stuck in my head. Another song that is molding out there in cyber land on my once and former hard drive. Bleh.

How can a band put out a song as awesome as Clocks and then proceed to pretty much suck? Cause Speed of Sound is like Clocks pt 2 and like most sequels, no where near as good. Talk is just awful. Chris sounds like some horrid whiny refugee from a chick flick sans tits. It's repellently metrosexual. There is only *1* other Coldplay song I dig and that would be the live version of Moses.

And Coldplay people, don't tell me to listen to "deeper cuts" cause I own X and Y and just yawn. And he skips like a girl. When your dance moves make Bono (who Chris Martian will NEVER be) look like Tony from Saturday Night Fever, you know you got problems. But Clocks? Awesome song. Love it. It's a good day on the radio. Now if only they would play the Soup Dragons.

So mini musical rant out of the way, I am curious to see what feedback I get on the guitar list other than Desert who mentioned we were going to have overlap. My parents seemed mighty tetchy about the lack of the "Triad" of Clapton Beck and Page. I will say it again, I tried to steer away from the obvious pantheon of rock god solos. I mean be real. Would Stairway to Heaven really have shown any originality? And picking lesser known Zep songs just to prove I know their back catalogue seemed a bit pretentious. I will wait to see what The Couch has to say. Oh and pray for me people. While my car is in being serviced (my car is getting some while I am not. The irony) I am driving Mom's vintage baby. Which is really a great car except the fucking stereo is locked with the anti-theft thing and they don't know the code. I am tuneless!!!! GAH! The road rage quotient in Oregon just went up, people.

Tiny baby post today cause I was up late and in early and I barely know my own name :P

Baby It's The Guitar Man

Anndi recently tagged me with the Top 5 Guitar Solo meme and oh man this really SUCKED! Just 5?!? That is a joke right? Well this being my blog and me being in charge and all I said screw you guys I am pickin 10. I am feeling lazy so no link love for you people :p First off let me make something very clear. The minute Jimi Hendrix picked up a guitar everyone else became also rans. Jimi owned. Second item to make clear, there is no Clapton on this list. No King. No Robert Johnson. No Guy. No Son House. I pretty much decided to stick with mainstream RnR guitar gods and frankly Clapton gets enough play. So I present to you the Top 5(x2) Guitar Solos in no particular order. Well except Jimi. Cause Jimi is Jimi. Got that?

Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child
Eddie Van Halen - Van Halen - Eruption
Allen Collins, Gary Rossington - Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird
Stevie Ray Vaughn - Texas Flood
Slash - Guns N Roses - November Rain
David Gilmore - Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
Kirk Hammett - Metallica - One
Dickie Betts - The Allman Brothers - Blue Sky
Duane Allman - The Allman Brothers - Statesboro Blues (Live)

Storm Front Blew In 1 Year Ago

Well it was 1 year ago today that I decided it was time to babble at all you fine folks. Frankly never expecting there to be any of you fine folks reading it, so big cyber hugs and "oh gosh, thanks!" from me to all of you who spend some of your time here at my humble abode.

I almost made it 1 year and my 300th post, but I fell what...4 short? I could spam my own blog but that seems a tad silly :p

Let's see. Time to semi wrap up the last couple of days. First thing, Wed had much fun with the landscaper idiots. I think I might have ranted about our issues with the Home Owners Assoc and the fact that our sprinklers SUCK and there are not enough of them. Suffice to say the only thing green about our landscape company is probably the ganja they smoke on the 3 hour lunch breaks. I shit you not. Anyhow they sent a "representative" out to the house probably thinking I would not be there but unlucky them it was drop off kidlet time. Between Mom and me, we seem to have put the fear of God and/or litigation into both the HOA and the Landscaper. Idiot worker tried to tell me rhododendrons don't like sun. Err...sure. Asshat.

So that irked me. I go inside to turn on Mr Laptop and low and behold Windows is fubar'd and will not launch OR run diagnostics. Called Best Buys and was told to bring it in. That's cool, not looking forward to more time in that parking lot, but ok. So I get there and I get in line at Geek Squad central. Sorta their Batcave in the store, ya know? Take a guess what I got for a geek. A 5 foot, bleach blonde, cigarette jean wearing EmoSkeeze with roots and that whole "whoa is me" attitude. I could not make this stupid bitch get the difference between the OS initializing and the friggin computer turning on. She kept babbling about the battery.

I finally told her that the only thing she looked knowledgeable in was body shots and how to puke and not get it in her hair. It took her a bit but once she worked through the bigger words she looked suitably stunned. Fortunately for me, Napoleon Dynamites twin was behind the counter. Tall, skinny, chin pubes, thick glasses, Leatherman, and chapstick. THIS, my friends, was a geek. I told EmoSkank I wanted Napoleon to help me and to step aside. I called him Obi Wan, told him he was my only hope, and he fixed me up with a new laptop. He was actually pretty cool.

So laptop now works awesome. Kidlet and I went to Panera bread for dinner last night and took our laptops to use their handy dandy free wifi. It was most cool. And the french onion soup rocks too.

Kidlet got her guitar. It's the blue one

She is beyond stoked about it. The starter kit came with a small amp, cable, strap, and gig bag. Oh and 4 picks. I upgraded the bag to a thicker one and also got her an electronic tuner. And 4 lessons starting on June 13th. Typically, her dad has been attempting to find any way to piss on this. And keeps making comments about all the "cash" I am throwing around. Well first off, it was our vacation money but since the Shakespeare Fest is seriously booked this year it is looking like it will be 1 play instead of 3. That is 250 in ticket cost savings right there. And like..duh...it's May. We have HUGE summer child care/activity charges every year. It's actually cheaper than when she was younger and we had to have all day camps. That used to set us back 2k per summer. By comparison 240 for a guitar set up is cheap!

Tonight I am going to Francis X for dinner and cosmos with my good friend H and D another friend I have not seen in ages. Should be fun.

Finally to wrap up this post, I was tagged by Devilish Southern Belle to participate in the 5 Fave Places to Eat Locally meme.

The complete rules:1. Link to the name of the person who tagged you.
2. Include the state and country you're in.
3. List your top 5 favorite places to eat at your location (locally).
4. Tag 5 other people (preferably from other countries/states) and let them know they've been tagged.

Kidlet and I have discussed and here are our local recommendations. We live in a suburb of Portland (woo) but we pretty much have lived in every part of the city and we have choosen our top 5 from all metro area.

1. Mad Greek Deli - Words can not express the love I have for this place. Greek Fries...yum. The best gyros and a cranky old greek dude to serve you. It's home. Hillsboro Oregon

2. Marrakesh - Kidlet and I love this place. You sit on the floor, they serve awesome tea, the set starters just rock and the rabbit is to die for. Northwest Portland

3. Pazzo - The best food I have had in Portland since the good old days of Zefiro restaurant. Awesome Italian. The best I have had outside of Italy. Downtown Portland

4. Outback - Yes I know it is not local, but tough shit, I love steak! Everywhere and the moon and Beaverton Oregon

5. Pasta Pronto - Hands down the single most divine Fettucine Alfredo on the planet. I have never once, in 7 years, ordered anything else. And that is ok by me! Hillsboro Oregon

Now as for tags, I am pretty lame on making folks do that mostly cause I am lazy :P So, feel free, link me and let me know you have done this and I will post a link to you in this post!

Off to work for me. Y'all come back now, ya hear?

Frankly My Dear

You better not fuck this up.

Nobody Loves No One

Ok first off, I slept like crap and I totally blame CSI. I hate ventriloquist dummies. It goes all the way back to a reoccurring nightmare from childhood where I am trapped in a chair being laughed at by a Charlie McCarthy dummy. It is unpleasant. To this day if there is shit going on in my life that I am not facing I tend to get the nightmare. Such fun. So last night's season finale with the HORRID little Chloe doll freaked me out in a big way. I had to sleep under the covers. I did find Catherine's David Lynch crack wildly amusing though. She raised a good point. Where was the dwarf?

Parent teacher conference went well. My but daughter is a saucy little wench. This I already knew, but boy howdy the collection of her writing work from school totally proved it. She included her review of the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. She hated it. She hates every last single thing Gary has ever written. She called him pretentious with a tendency for using dumbed down dialogue but occasionally tossing in an obscure word so that the reader gets that Gary is smart, he is just writing stupid for the masses that read him. She lit into him like I do with Ernest Hemingway. Half way through her reading her dad turned and looked at me and said he was hearing my rant on Hemingway in his head. She was not quite as nasty as I am. I once told a very pretentious English teacher that the reason Ernie offed himself was that someone made him read his own books. And I meant it. The apple has not fallen too far from the tree. Now I just need to pin her to her seat long enough to get her hooked on Catcher In The Rye.

Hrmm...maybe after I re-read it. It has been a 2 or so years since I last read it. I like Franny and Zooey a lot too. I know everyone has probably read Catcher, but if you liked him check out Franny and Zooey.

Tonight kidlet and I go and get her the electric guitar starter kit. 199 gets her the guitar, and tiny amp, power cords, shoulder strap, case, and 5 picks. I think I even talked her dad into paying for part of it. Score! I mean not all of his half, I will settle for a hundred bucks for the lessons and another hundred for her theater workshop.

Speaking of kidlet, she left her phone and (gasp) all of her CD's in my car last night. Why she took her bag of CD's with her to the conference is a mystery to me. The long and the short of it being, she is around the corner at her dad's all day today. No school. So I get to use my am break and run her crap over to her. Maybe I will be nice and take her food. She emailed me last night at 11:57 so I totally know she is going to be uber cranky. Lucky Mom.

Wordless Wednesday #14

Don't Drink. Don't Smoke. What Do You Do?

Ohh I feel like a new woman today. It is frickin amazing what 8 hours sleep and the prospect of a laptop will do for a girl, ya know? I should really piss Kidlet off and start singing that Valtrex Herpes commercial jingle, It's A Brand New Day. Oh she hates that. She does the most fabulous Elvis style lip curling sneer. It is priceless.

We watched The Tudors last night. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is faboulous as Henry. It is nice to see a version where he is not portrayed as the Fat Orson Wells type who throws bones over his shoulder. Poor Harry, he really was a stud muffin in his early days. Dare I say it...a rockstar.

Dexter is back on in....OCTOBER?!? WTF, that is too frickin long to wait. Fortunately the third Dexter novel is due out in July. Still. Grr.

Oh side note to all you X Files Fans. The Fox is back! Showtime has a new series with David Duchovny in the works called Californication.

Wonder if they paid the Peppers?

So anyways we watched The Tudors and then then we sucked into Jawbreaker. Nice Dexter tie in since Lovely Rita in Dexter is also Foxy in Jawbreaker. And Darla on Angel... but I digress.

Love that movie. And yes yes I know, big huge Heathers rip off. Got it. I like the synchronicity of both of them featuring a Charmed One though. And Marilyn Manson's cameo is priceless. Watch it and you will truly understand why the man stays in makeup all the time. He looks like Nic Cage's demented vacuum salesman brother. With Brandon Flowers patented Lip Pubes Mustache.

I LOATHE The Killers, in case you didn't get that :P

Today after a long day of work, I must motivate my ass to the Land O Dead Fred's. Got a 10 buck gift card and 14 bucks from my rewards card. Which means, that I get a pound of coffee, two things of creamer, and probably my dinner for free. I love that.

Cause I am cheap like that.

The World Forgetting, By The World Forgot

Happy Dance time! My most generous mother has offered to set me up with a laptop. This means more Starr for you folks as I won't have to drag my butt into the office. No, now I will be able to share with you all the random crap that floats through my brain a 1am. Be afraid.

Mom's day was very nice. Kidlet enlisted the help of her grandmother and got me gorgeous Star(r)gazer Lilies

and Peruvian Lily

with some ferns for greens. They are gorgeous. And my grandfather gave me a dancing 49er bulldog that he has kindly added "Montana" to the jersey. Joe ownz all other QB's. There will be no discussion :P

So anyhow Mom is out perusing Laptops today and tomorrow and I am trying not to take my networks apparent flatulence personally. It works until I try to print. Then it breaks. Then they fix, then I print. Rinse. Repeat. It hates me.

Watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind last night. I love that movie although it is ridiculously sad as well. It was also the movie that caused kidlet to do her happy dance of ankle breaking. I told her if she so much as blinked on that couch, I was rolling her into a padded room. We both had to fight to stay awake last night. We made ourselves watch the end of Survivor, and tried to make it until at least 10. Even kidlet was beat.

She had her guitar lesson yesterday and LOVED it. Didn't ask me but I knew she wanted further lessons. From where I stand being a girl who can play electric guitar can only help in the ability to be able to look people dead in the eye and say FOAD. So I am down with that, and made her day by taking her to price electric guitar beginner packs. The high pitched "EEEEE!!!!!" she let out was probably heard by dogs in neighboring states :P

Mean People Suck And All That Jazz

And apparently I am one of them :P

You Are 71% Misanthropic

Here's the truth: Most people suck. You are just lucky enough to know it.
You're not ready to go live alone in a cave - but you're getting there.

So not only will I hate you, but I will imagine you naked and in a compromising position with a poodle. Sounds about right.

Your Mind is NC-17 Rated

She Was Practiced At The Art Of Deception

Ahh....the office. Love that new office smell courtesy of the carpet cleaners. Not enjoying the loud ass noise from the cleaners.

Kidlet and I just had lunch, and she is now over at her Dad's until tomorrow. I am off to make coffee and slaughter trees in my pursuit of legalese.

Here is the question I am currently pondering. Who pissed Kelly Clarkson off so badly?! That song Never Again is about the most bitter song I have heard since Alanis Morissette let loose with You Outta Know. Kidlet and I watched the video this morning and we were like, DAMN!

If she got together with Carrie Underwood and her Louisville Slugger, some poor schmuck will be missing a nut or two.

And now...COFFEE ~

She Don't Use Jelly

This rant contains spoilers. Read at your own risk!

Been a long week and by last night I had decided that I was in serious need of some comfy couch and Chinese and movie action. Kidlet and I settled ourselves in and perused our choices via On Demand. We decided we were in a RomCom happy movie kinda mood so we chose The Break Up.

I was always team Brangelina rather than Vaughiston, but I have to say the previews did make it look like it would be semi amusing. You know couple fights, each refuses to leave cool condo, hilarity ensues, couple reconcile, every one smile. Wrong, my friends. Very very wrong. Remember this post where in I warned of the dangers of John Cusack movies? Well triple that. Never EVER watch The Break Up on or around the anniversary of a break up or if you are feeling even remotely uneasy in the romance realm. Just back away slowly folks and no one will get hurt.

Sesame chicken in hand we settle in and start watching. They show the couple first meeting - cute, very cute. Great pick up on Vaughn's part. Quirky and charming. Then we see the photo montage of the happy couple, including the renovation of this stellar condo they co- own. Then it goes a bit black. It is called The Break Up so kidlet and I were prepared for this. Gotta have a break up before you can make up, right? Standard RomCom scenario.

First thing I notice is that they are really hitting it on the realism scale as you watch the tiny petty arguments start to snowball. How she is saying one thing but he is hearing something entirely different. And both are right and both are wrong. I was cringing hard and thinking someone wrote this when they were feeling particularly bitter. On they went and it was like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

The argument started out as a gripe about a small issue (lemons) and turned into a laundry list of hurts, and finally they found themselves at that point where, boom, you have broken up and you are not really sure how you got there. Anyone who has ever had a break up knows what I am talking about. That stunned kind of silence you get when you realize that this stopped being about lemons and you are now ex's.

So ok, that was rough. Props for the realism, let's move on to the good stuff.

Some hilarity ensues as they attempt to share the condo as ex's, don't get me wrong, but there is always this vague disquieting unhappy undertone to it. She kicks him off their bowling team, he tries to retaliate with game night anger that finally leads their realtor to get them to agree to sell. They just have to try to not kill each other before then.

Now about this time, Brooke (the Aniston character) makes it known to us via a convo with her boss that she is really interested in trying to get back together with Gary (the Vaughn character) and asks her wacko artiste boss for advice. She thinks (oh foolish girl) that by dumping him, he will realize all he has to loose with this break up and stop being so self involved. **Please note at one point in time in the movie Gary's homicidal bar owning best friend tells him point blank he is a ton of fun but that he never ever does anything he does not want to do and if his friends don't like it, tough shit. So this is not me being male bashing here, it's a given, Gary is a lovable and fun but seriously selfish man **

Brooke takes the advice given to her by her nutjob boss and gets the "Telly Savalas" wax job (due I need to spell that out for you people?) and parades the "blank canvass" (as her boss calls it) in front of Gary. She brings home a date, he get's tense, thinking of someone else painting the "blank canvass."

She leaves on the date, it sucks, she hides out at a friends. Which of course Gary does not know so he is freakin out. She comes home and they get spiteful over night time noise versus daytime noise and the one upsmanship begins. The only true funny scene in the movie involving her not out of the closet acapella singing brother takes place. It was a tiny baby bright point.

She brings home another date and this time Gary and the Date end up bonding over video games (I am sure you all saw this in the commercials and trailers for this movie) which is funny but again, not. Still has that faint bitter undertone.

Gary retaliates to all this boy toyage by calling in his brother and many hot women for a strip poker game. Queue Brooke coming home to naked drunk Gary on the couch with a bunch of half naked chicks doing table dance moves. Right about now, I am starting to get a bit concerned at the direction we are heading here. Kidlet is beginning to grumble. Kidlet hates anything sappy and even she is getting pissed off.

We have more yada yada. Brooke realizes that Gary is just too self involved to see the writing on the wall and if she wants to stay together she is going to have to be the one to cave in. Which she then attempts too. By inviting him to a concert with her, saying oh so nonchalantly that she got the tickets for him before the break up blah blah blah. Totally obvious it is an olive branch, right? Kidlet and I are relieved, the chocolate stores remain safe for the night (we were getting tense and pondering sublimation) and it all looks to be slowly moving the right direction.

Until the asshat stands her up.

She comes home, she cries, he feels like crap and Kidlet and I are thinking it could still go ok in the end. Fine, they are gonna make us sweat a bit over our happy ending but ok, we are big girls, we can take it.

We see the above referenced convo with Gary and his bar owning friend. We see Gary have the epiphany that yes indeed campers, he is totally selfish. We see Gary finally doing the paperwork his older brother has been asking for at the family business. Personal growth!

Cut to Brooke. She is quitting her job and announces to her boss she will travel. Boss tells her that her job is there whenever she gets back. Ok... so we got a possible foreshadowing here. Another reconciliation option. Vacation, regroup, re-grope. Kidlet and I are lulled into false sense of security over this. We can do this.

Brooke comes home with A Cute Customer who we have seen ask her out (and be turned down by her) earlier on in the movie so only we know she is just at the condo showing him antiques he wants to buy from her. When they walk in she discovers that Gary has set a beautiful table and cooked her dinner. A Cute Customer is conveniently shunted to the hallway. Kidlet and I are pleased. We have had personal growth and now we get our shiny happy make-up time.

Except we don't.

See Brooke has realized that she loves Gary, but she just has nothing left to give. They are really done. It's all too little too late.

What?! Pardon me?! Kidlet and I pause movie and stare at each other in shock and horror. We are not having happy blue and pink thoughts.

Restart and we watch them in the now empty condo as they both say that there are a million things they would do differently. Kidlet pauses the movie and yells something about starting with redoing the last scene and announces that she is pissed and I look grim.

This is getting really frickin low on both the Rom and the Com. Prozac, party of one, your table is ready.

In a fearful silence, we restart the movie. We watch a montage of the seasons changing. Looks to be a year or so. We see Gary on a new business adventure. We see Brooke walking down the street. We hear someone call her name and low and behold, it's Gary! Kidlet and I perk up. Surely this will be it, right? Right?

Brooke and Gary chat, they hug, wait..what are they doing now. WALKING AWAY?!

What. The. Hell.

Credits roll and the music starts up ~I Can See Clearly Now.

WHAT?! That is a low blow. That is the happy send off music at the end of Grosse Point Blanke and it has just been tainted. See how it all ties back to John Cusack?

Kidlet and I are stunned. Song ends and they start another. Would you believe it was Kermit singing The Rainbow Connection?!

Bastards.

Thursday Thirteen #12

Well it has been gorgeous out here in Orygon the last couple of days. WARM! In May! Stunning! I love summer. It is by far my most favorite season. Some of my favorite smells come are tied to summertime and that got me started on today's 13. Now these are in no particular order and this is by far not all of them, but here we have 13 of my favorite smells!

1. Cut Grass - It just smells so much better in the summer. Particularly sweetgrass or hay. Love it.

2. Rain on hot pavement - By far one of my all time favorite smells on the entire planet.

3. Sulfur from fireworks - I love the 4th of July. I was denied fireworks as a child by my Virgo Nurse mother. She stood by me and my sparklers with a hose. I kid you not. Now I am a pyro on the 4th. Bigger! Louder! Illegal! Wait...that sounds like my sex life with the Ex Boyfriend Variety. Georgia sex laws are so archaic...

4. Poison, Drakkar Noir, and sweat mixed - See #3

5. Fresh ground coffee beans - I love the smell of brewing coffee but standing over a grinder and smelling fresh ground coffee is Mana of the Gods.

6. Peonies - My favorite flower

7. Laundry hot from the dryer - Ahh Downy.

8. The Ocean - I love the ocean. I like the brisk smell of our oceans here in Oregon, but I admit I like the softer version you get in the summer or in tropical locations.

9. Books - New crisp books, old musty books...you name it I love the way they smell. Books are the bestest.

10. Hot Tar - Another of my favorite smells. It reminds me of childhood. For some reason there was always tarring going on of the roads by my grandparents house.

11. Pine - Especially at Christmas time.

12. The way it smells outside in the evening on a humid day when things cool off- Boy is that a hard one to describe! If you could smell it when I smelt it you would know what I mean.

13. Lavender - Another of my favorite smells. I would love to live in a french lavender field. Like this!

Aquarius (Jan 20 - Feb 18)

It will be easier to feel free once you accept the limitations now being placed on you. Keep in mind that this isn't about living without boundaries. Rather, it's about working within them. Don't try to push the edges of the envelope. Restrain yourself just enough to maintain the status quo. Whatever difficulties you must face, life will probably be easier within a few days.

Frickin Radio - Part Deux

Update yet again

Mazzy Fucking Star...AGAIN?! Blow me people

5/7/07

KNRK - Mazzy Star
105.1 - Stupid Cheeseball Armageddon Theme by Aerosmith
KINK - Where Are You Going - Dave Matthews

Grr.

Updated 5/7 - How many times do you suppose the average person could hear How Soon Is Now? on any given day? Cause this make the third time for me today. Nice Gustav, really nice.

There Ain't Nothing Like Regret To Remind You You're Alive

Ah Sheryl. Lovely Sheryl and her The Globe Sessions are such fun to listen to. I refer to that as my Divorce Album. By that I mean I was listening to that album pretty much on repeat during the time Ex Husband Variety and I split. Oddly enough, not a bummer time. By the time we split I was done with being depressed over him, kthx.

But being that I am in an introspective mood I hauled that CD out this am on my way too work and taking kidlet to school. I haven't listened to it in a couple of years because, again, the mental associations attached to it were a trip down memory lane I just did not feel like taking. Until today. I figured what the fuck it goes so well with my hair shirt. The Difficult Kind is a great song, but man it is still is like a fist in the gut. I used to have a live duet version of it with Sarah McLachlan. THAT was a tearfest. I still can't listen to Mirrorball. **Update. I once again have that duet version. Still a fist in the gut, but I feel oddly better having it.

It is gorgeous here today. Again. That must mean something is going to go horribly wrong. Nice? Here? May? Not usually and frankly last week we had hail for 4 days in a row and it looked like a monsoon in December. Global warming at it's finest people.

Speaking of kidlet - YO WIDGET. I am SO going to win that bet.

K..sorry inside joke and I get a kick out of poking the sleeping dog with a stick.

Work is work is work. I am so looking forward to school being done for the year and having my lunch hour back again. I don't mind doing the pick up etc, but the current gas prices just suck. But the bus stop is way too far from home for her to walk and have me feel at all comfortable. Dunno what we are gonna do next year. I flat out can't wait till the little wench can drive. Then she can drive MY ass around.

Here is a fun little test. I like the fact that I scored high on the lust scale. As for how I am supposed to check out? Not bloody likely. Go now, fellow Bloggers and discover the odds on your toasting Marshmallows with Satan. Looks like I stand a fair chance :P

Chili Colorado ...or some such thing

I so suck. I totally promised David I would post the recipe for Chili Colorado that I bragged about last Thursday Thirteen and then I promptly spaced it. Such a tard monkey.

Sorry David and here it is!

This is basically my way of making two meals out of a boneless pork loin roast. I buy the unseasoned ones and just roast them ala Greek. The second night I cube the left over pork and add it with a chopped yellow onion and a couple cloves of garlic in a nice sized sauce pan. I use a bit of olive oil, but I really like it when the pork gets seared a bit as well. I cooked those until the onions start to go translucent.

Add in 2 large cans of chopped mild green chilis. Or medium/hot. Your colon, your choice. Add 1-2 cans low sodium chicken broth and one Large jar of southwest salsa. Vary these depending on the amount of pork you have left over. I use Fred's/Krogers brand. Just get the kind with corn and whole black beans. Let it simmer and serve it in the big tortillas with refried beans and sour cream. Tis the yum.

Monday Monday, Sucktastic Day

The Mamas and Papas are gonna hunt me down for that I just know it.

The best thing about today? Paris Hilton going to jail. That just tickles me. First Britney and her horrid lip sinkathon and now "The Simple Life - Prison Bitch" for Paris. Love it. Just love it.

Ex left for NYC taking his GF with him so I have the Kidlet all week. I think he is taking her on Sat or Sunday when he gets back. Just realized that it is Mothers Day so he might, in fact, be screwed. Oh and get this. Want to know how I treat myself for Mothers Day? I have a music teacher coming to the house to teach Kidlet the Bass Guitar for an hour. At 10am. Eeep.

Rockstar SuperKidlet!

After that I am not sure what the Mom day plan is. I really really want to try to get out to Adelman Peony Gardens and do the tour.

I adore peonies. Just LOVE them. Not sure if my mom has anything planned but we shall see. Gotta fit in 4 hours at the office each day as well. Happy Dance.

Been an interesting weekend. Blast from the past mentally kinda weekend. Just ...yeah. Nuff said on that subject.

Cryptic, I know :P

More later, must go eat oatmeal before it turns to concrete!

Insanity Laughs Under Pressure We're Cracking

While sloggin around the bloggin world today I came across 2 sites that I must share. Credit where credit is due goes to Dr. Blogstein via his contacts on MyBlogLog.

What U Did Today and it's evil twin What U Didn't Do Today are great! Imagine a place where you can anonymously blurt all those things driving on you? Each day they submit a comment from someone stating what they did or did not do on that day. Keep your comments brief but not too brief. It's entertaining to read and if you have something on your chest, get it off. Sometimes just seeing it in print can help.

I'm Dancing Barefoot, Headed For A Spin

I feel so virtuous. Feel, not am, but hey that is a start right? I have officially gone back and tagged all of my old posts from pre-beta times. The ping servers must love me :P

Speaking of tracking blog related things I keep getting folks here via "suckthisblog.com." Talk about a laugh when I saw that. Hello...how's about you buy dinner first? My blog is not that kind of girl!

Kidlet is at her dad's tonight, I get her back extra tomorrow as he is out of town on business again. Oh and he brought up taking the classes and filing the papers to actually get a divorce. After 7 years. I pointed out that it would cost several hundreds of bucks and I was not feeling that. He still owes me 600 for the first go around. I'd rather buy a laptop, kthx.

On other ex front news, I did hear from the BF variety regarding the kidlet email. We actually have emailed back and forth a few times. I did tell him he was right about kidlet being accident prone. She is a Sagitarrius and so is he and he told me to get friendly with the ER staff. He called that one.

On injured kidlet front, her butt that she broke rollerskating (!) is doing much better. She is pestering me for summer vacation plans. If I could go anywhere, I'd hit Atlanta and then take the Crescent to New Orleans. I LOVE train travel. I'd acutally love to be able to take a sleeper car to Atlanta and then from there hit NOLA and come home. Of course, that is seriously spendy. I'd love roadtripping that as well. Fuck that, I'd love to just be able to move. 6 years 1 month. I am counting the days people. Approx 2200 if you are curious.

What I think we will shoot for the Rocky Horror roadtrip up to Washington.

And now I am off to killer trees and see if I can find any coffee to make in this joint. It's cold today too and there are a shit ton of people in the building for a Saturday.

Oh and the mole from yesterday was AWESOME!

..Her timing is quite, unusual.

Well my alter ego is finally leaving the air. That would be Lorelai Gilmore, a character so freakishly like me that my ex boyfriend used to watch it when he missed me cause we were so alike. The bizarre (his word not mine) tangents Lorelai would go off on. The obsession with coffee, the weird rituals around food, movies and music, they all ring true. Plus if you ever met my kidlet you would see the similarities there as well. Kidlet is not quite so perfection oriented. And then I was nearly 10 years older than Lorelai when I gave birth, but hey, details :p

It is gonna be very odd have them off the air. It's almost like an end of an era or a part of my life in a weird way. All I can say is they better fix the Lorelai/Luke situation or I am gonna be fucking pissed :P

Today our office does our annual Cinco De Mayo celebration. Our director pays for huge platters of chicken mole, rice, beans, and tamales. The food rocks too since it is brought in by one of my co-workers who is married to a mexican and has the fast track on real authentic food. The rest of us bring in other stuff like drinks, chips, salsa, salad, guacamole, etc. That will be the high point of my day.

Seriously cranky today. Had a lovely dream in which my ex (boyfriend variety) dumped ME! Oh hell to the no, people. That is not the way that goes down. Uh uh. It actually pissed me off so much it woke me up at 2 am and I was restless the remainder of the night. Makes me wanna smack someone. Well him. I am pretty sure it was due to the fact that kidlet emailed him a week or so ago to get info on a Pink Floyd box set. I couldn't remember what it was called and told her she best just ask him directly. So he immediately wrote her back and gave her the info and was just as nice as can be. Which he is. Unemployed, depressed, but nice. Asshat. Grr.

Here is hoping the Mole puts me in a better frame of mind.

Thursday Thirteen #11

I am spacing out people. Seriously seem to have lost that crispness of mind. So today's 13 is off the wall and random. These are just a few thoughts from the oddness that is Starr's brain.

1. If I never have to hear The Shin's New Slang ever again in my life I will be most greatful.

2. Chili Colorado with pork loin is yummy. Especially when I make it.

3. Flavored creamers for coffee make me gag. Especially hazelnut. /shudder

4. The General Lee is up for auction on Ebay. Current price? 2.7Million. Belle and I would have to dual for the Lee!

5. Van Halen rocks. Van Hagar...not so much.

6. I had a seriously screwed up dream not long ago in which Dennis Weaver (the actor) chased George Clooney and myself through the Milagro Beanfields. In late 70's model Caddys. He ended up catching us AND killing us both with the claw end of a hammer. George tried to save me. He was very brave. Dennis was a peg.

7. The same night I had the above dream, Kidlet dreamed that her class had a heads down hands up vote and had her committed to a mental asylum. While in the asylum, Linda Blair suffocated her with a tuna sandwich. That had too much dill. We are still trying to figure out what we ate or drank that caused such bizarre dreams.

8. This is NOT a flattering picture of Ickney Spears. I think it is safe to say she didn't have that tummy tuck.

9. I could listen to The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony on Urban Hymns on repeat over and over. That and Porcelain on Moby's Play are the two songs I go to when I need to chill the world and or my brain out.

10. My daughter HATES Michael Buble. She calls him "The Booble" in this snarky mocking voice.

11. We had dinner at a fabulous restaurant called Eleni's Philoxenia & Estiatorio with a cousin I actually had FUN talking too. Back story here, I come from a HUGE Greek family. My Big Fat Greek Wedding was not as amusing to me as it was to others. I watched it with my ex boyfriend and his mom and they thought it was hysterical. I cringed. A lot. Tidbit I just learned, the owner of Eleni's - Eleni herself - is married to the former owner of the Satyricon!

12. I registered with Habitat for Humanity today to be a volunteer. And you should too!

13. If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?

A Friend With Weed Is Better

I am feeling TOTALLY uninspired today. It's the fact that my sinuses feel like they are filled with molten lava, I am sure. Just had lunch and I think it was a good roast beef sandwich, but I can't really taste anything. Joyous.

I could whine forever but that would probably seriously impact my cool factor so I will shut it and move on to the meat (roast beef?) of this post. Let's play catch up, shall we?

First off, Sunday the 22nd, Kidlet and I saw Placebo at the Roseland. They were in a first place tie with Green Day. Now it looks like they have stolen first. You learn these things taking your kids to concerts. I actually had a hella good time for an all ages show. I remember when the Roseland was the infamous Starry Night Club. I highly suggest you go read that story too. Fascinating look at the underbelly of our local club scene. It was not all Kurt and Courtney at the Satyricon.

The opening band Evaline was just god awful. No offence to them or anything, but my goodness! Kidlet thought they blew chunks too, so I am pretty sure it is not me turning into an old fart. The lead singer was remarkably thin. From the side he looked about as wide a 5 year old boy. Facially he looked like what I can only describe as the love child of Orlando Bloom (without the ears) and Sanjaya of American Idol fame. And a stoned pot field Sanjaya at that. Musically they were your basic art rock - ambient - emocore crap. But I found them visually rather compelling. Like a train wreck, ya know? You just can't look away. I gotta say for the record that their drummer was decent. The rest of the band though...wow. One of the guitarists looked like he had been let loose from a circa 1985 Bryan Adams video and another resembled a refugee from Late 70's ELO, complete with afro. He was white. It was very South Park. And they danced like they were trying to channel Iggy Pop! But when Sanjaya Sex Monkey boy (as I have dubbed the lead singer) climbed atop his Yamaha keyboard and jumped up and down, I knew we were in for a treat. It didn't take long before all my expectations were achieved. Out came the cello bow and it was dragged back and forth across the bass guitar. Yes, the bass. Page would have been so proud.

It was actually pretty amusing, complete with the totally stoned looking singer possibly vomiting behind the stacks and having to be helped off ala James Brown by his trusty roadie.

We were right up front stage right at the barriers directly in front of wall of amps. This was a first for kidlet and she loved it. Another future hearing aid wearer was born =)

Placebo was really great in concert. They sounded great, had a ton of energy and were fun with the crowd. Plus their lyrics are amusing. I have already promised the kidlet we can go again if they come back this summer. She was seriously pissed her dad would not take her to Coachella where they played last weekend. Once again it was MOMMY TO THE RESCUE! She luuuuuuvs me. And since Mommy had a great time she feels kinda wrong accepting the mega loves from small child. I did not, however, turn down the foot rub.

Now the only grim spot in that weekend was that small child had busted her ass. Literally. She fell right smack dab on the tailbone while rollerskating. What about this kid made her dad think she was a good candidate for rollerskating is just beyond me. Was it the broken or finger that made his go "Yeah! great idea!"

She made it through the concert on adrenaline alone but she was walking like a crab on Monday AM. Add to that the sinus infection that she has generously shared with me, and you get a recipe for Gone for the Week.

I feel better today. Marginally.

Harley still has eyeball issues but it now looks like Retardo Cat will not lose his eyeball. Which is good cause it has been a looong 6 weeks worrying about that. I probably just jinxed the poor bastard :P

OOOH exciting postscript!

Blur is getting back together! Happy days people. Happy damn days.
