Lend Me A Quarter Won't You, I'll Call My Accountant
Isn't it fun to witness the selling out and/or metamorphoses to Old Fogiedom in a previously cool person? I always get a laugh out of it.
I was listening to the radio on the drive home from work last night. Not KNRK. Don't ask me why. Maybe they were playing She Wants Revenge.
I happened to come in on a convo between DJs on a Top 40 station. They were talking about a reporter calling up Marilyn Manson and asking what he thought of the Virginia Tech tragedy. Apparently MM answered, "They will probably blame me." Given Columbine and the very fact that a reporter felt compelled to call him and ask him this question in the first place, it is probably a reasonable assumption. Maybe not the most tactful answer, but a reasonable fear on his part.
What got me was the attitude of the female DJ, who btw, used to be on KNRK with Gustav in the AM years ago. She got all up in arms going off about how everything was not about him, and making fun of his real name, and basically coming off like every parody of the old fart looking down on "you young kids today!"
She is my age, people. She is witty and bright and likes comics. But apparently, due to her new radio stations more middle of the road demos, she has turned into an establishment idiot. Way to go! Kiss the ass of Middle America!
Silly twat.
Now mind you, I am not a hardcore MM fan. I think he ripped off the Goth subculture, Alice Cooper, and Type O Negative. Let's not even get started on the "Trent Reznor Issue". But he did all of this with flair and I like a good bit of his music. If you have ever heard him or read his autobiography, it becomes readily apparent that he is very very bright. And a marketing genius. He's kinda the dark scary Madonna of Industrial/Shock Rock. He is also a lightning rod for the blame when shit hits the fan.
The irony of Columbine is that those two mental dweebs didn't listen to Manson. They listened to The Prodigy though. MM got the shit slung at him, and The Prodigy got to sing "Smack My Bitch Up" in Charlie's Angels. And before the Ravers get angry, I happen to love Prodigy. I own The Fat of the Land
So go light up a glow stick and be happy.
Speaking of Trent Reznor, I read in the latest Rolling Stone that RIAA has come down on several website for copyright violations regarding his new album Year Zero. Apparently Trent's Label and RIAA missed out on the fact that Trent leaked the files HIMSELF. They even had to pay back some fines they had demanded and collected. Your tax dollars at work, people.
Ready to digress again? Hold your hats, here we go!
Watched Stranger Than Fiction last night after I picked up the kidlet. Not a bad movie. Not great one, but likable. Best part of it was when they played The Jam's "That's Entertainment" during a somewhat poignant part of it. Trust me, the irony was delightful. The downside is it pointed out that I dearly miss my Jam CD's and must replace them. The Sound of the Jam
is a must own for those of you who are familiar with the band. I used to own it, but God only knows where it is now.
And now, off to work. Must make coffee. The office smells like a sock today. Bleh :P

Bridging The Distance
This here is a PLUG. A Shameless Product Pimping Plug. But it's a good one and for a good cause, so no crap from the peanut gallery.
Bridging the Distance is a fun, eclectic and quirky compilation CD featuring local artist from right here in Latte Land aka Portland, OR covering songs they consider classic. The CD was the pet project of one of my two most favorite DJ's ever, Mr. Greg Glover from 947 KNRK our truly awesome radio. The CD benefits a P:ear, a local non-profit that helps homeless youth. Here is a wee snippet of the interview with Greg from our local alternative weekly Willamette Week:
When asked if he has a favorite song on Bridging the Distance, local radio personality (94.7-FM KNRK) and Arena Rock founder Greg Glover says, "Are you kidding? That's like asking a parent which child is their favorite." Considering he's choosing between songs like the Minders' cover of E.L.O.'s "Don't Bring Me Down" and the Thermals' take on Led Zeppelin's "Tangerine," it's not hard to empathize.
Greg has played several cuts from the album this week during his morning show. The mix of songs and artist is just awesome. Alan Parsons and The Cult? "Sister Christian" and "Dancing in the Dark?" This is just too good to pass up, people. I had one of my best Monday mornings (!) ever this week. Imagine air guitaring the intro to "Eye in the Sky" for your kid while in the car waiting for school to start. Sure, the other parents stared, but I am positive therapy will heal her. This is what radio SHOULD bring to your lives!

So I have mentioned Titanic more than once or twice on this blog and if ya scroll down a wee bit you will see my last post on the subject. It got me thinking of all the pop culture references to this historical event and frankly even I was surprised at some of them. So here they are in no particular order, 12 (yes 12) Titanic Pop Culture reference and 1 tidbit of info on me!
1. Samson and Delilah lyrics - Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too
- The New Radicals -"Did the captain of the Titanic Cry?"
2. Oops I Did It Again lyrics - Britanny Spears. Seriously. Go check it out as I can NOT bring myself to quote La Spears on my blog.
3. Penny A Minor character on Showtimes Series "Dead Like Me" went down on the Titanic. For those of you who are fans, she was the reaper that reaped Rube's daughter Rosie.
George: How'd you die?
Penny: Boating accident.
George: Sailing? Water-skiing? Fall out of a dingy?
Penny: Bigger.
4. The Dr Who episode "The End of the World" Dr Who comments that he was "clinging to an iceberg" after surviving the sinking of an 'unsinkable ship'.

12 Of all movies about Titanic the most widely viewed is the 1997 film Titanic directed by James Cameron and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. It became the highest-grossing film in history by far, taking over $600 million in the U.S. and beating the 20-year record-holder Star Wars by $140 million. I also own an autographed poster of the dance scene, an autographed 8x10 of the I'm Flying scene and the script signed by pretty much everyone and their dog. Oh and a press kit and one of the actual knives from the dining room scene. Told ya I was into it!

Mama Mia Mama Mia!
I'd like to thanks the good folks over at MommaBlogga.com for the nod. The Kidlet was impressed that topics about her scored so well! Currently kidlet is a wee bit disgusted with me. And irked. We have had a hell of a time with the editting process of her writing sample for the Oregon Writing Conference that she was invited to attend this weekend. Love my kid, not so wild about her ego. And she loves me, not so wild about my input. Suffice it to say that after a week of arguing grammar and syntax we have finally finished editting her story and have achieved detente. The conference is Saturday and she has to turn in her story tomorrow so we are just squeeking it in under the wire. Between that process and my recent admission that I frickin LOVE the Justin Timberlake song What Goes Around/Comes Back Around she is looking at me with the Elvis sneer :P

You Should Have Seen The Ratings That Day
Another school shooting. The worst gun massacre on record period, let alone a school one. And coming days before the anniversary of Columbine. What is there to say anymore? Is there any dialogue we, as a nation, can have that will actually mean anything at this point? Or are we too far gone?
I, personally, support the right to own a gun. I don't support the right to own assault weapons that are best left in the hands of SWAT teams. The problem is, in many of these cases the guns used are plain old hand guns. A 9 mm and a 22 in todays attack according to the authorities. Not what you would call Soldier of Fortune models. And for all we know, the gunman had them in his possession legally. And frankly all of these gun control chestnuts deflect from one salient fact. The buck stops with the perpetrator. Ultimately they are responsible. Not the gun or the hollow points, the video games or Marilyn Manson, the Prozac or the parents. The shooters are responsible. Seems to me that all the finger pointing and blame shifting underscores a very big problem in our society. Lack of personal accountability.
Is it me, or is it getting a bit depressing being a member of the human race? There are times when I think God, Allah, Yahweh, et all are not doing us any favors by not bring down the wrath in the form of biblical population wipe outs. Cause man, as a species, we seem to be becoming collectively stupider and less willingly to take responsibility for our lives with each passing decade.
Maybe Darwin was wrong afterall...

For Those In Peril On The Sea
Tonight is the night when My Heart Will Go On. Tomorrow morning Sunday April 15th at 2:20AM marks the 95th anniversary of the sinking of Titanic. You know what that means? It means it is time for my yearly Titanic movie viewing complete with a shit ton of kleenex and chocolate.
I have mentioned my life long fascination with Titanic and my undying devotion to the movie in previous post. Yes the movie is corny and the plot is totally a bodice ripper. But it works, people. How else do you humanize on a micro level the enormous (and needless) loss of life? I blubber like a frickin baby every time I see it. And let me tell you folks I have seen Titanic well over 50 times. Hell...more like 75 times. At least. 22 times in a theater. I am sure the fact that I was personally miserable at the time added to it. Whatever the cause it just resonated with me. The plus of my obsession was getting to meet some really cool people on the Titanic boards. That and my autographed script =0
In addition to my FCRDU girls I also gotta tip my hat at for Logan, LT and SLFAKE from the boards at the Original Countdown To Titanic website. Those guys were cool. There were also so serious tards. Some bimbo chick with her sad ass monoply game of life website. Urck..sick in the throat. The ex hacked her. The boy does has some mad 5k11z.
Funny thing is, today's post was totally unintentional. I was reading old email; old as in pre Y2K. When I say old, I mean old. I got a wild hair up my ass and went trolling over at the old Titanic forum. Seems my previous banning is no longer in effect :P Long story short, I saw some names I knew! So here is my cyber hug to all the other nerdy Titanic The Ship and Titanic The Film Geeks. Long may we rule!

I Try To Be Like Grace Kelly
I have to admit the first couple of times I heard Mika's Grace Kelly, I LOATHED IT. I thought it was the epitome of twee. Now I frickin adore that song. It grew on me, like moss on Mick Jagger.
Maui was awesome. We had perfecto weather every day. We made it to the The Old Lahaina Luau where I had my many many Pina Colada's and Kuala Pork. The show is awesome as well. Everyone thinks of the slow graceful set to ukulele music style of hula when they think of Hawaii. I personally like the older drum and chant version of the hula from Tahiti. The Old Lahaina does a great job of show the Evolution of Hula. And they make one hell of a Mai Tai.
One of my favorite days we spent up country at the Kula Botanical Gradens and at the Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm. Those places were gorgeous and the drive was beautiful. We were there just at the beginning of the blooming season for the Jacaranda Tree. When you see a grove of those in bloom it will blow you away.
I will give ya all a fuller blow by blow tomorrow with pictures as well when I get over the parentals. Hopefully Mom has downloaded her digital pics! Including the one of my new tattoo =)

Ermm...I wonder if the IT Geeks here at work realize that their metaphorically flies are open? Cause I can POST AT WORK! The Baby Jesus is pleased! I can;t see any of my pictures though or my banners etc cause now they are blocking photobucket. What fucktards!
Anyhow..HI GUYS! I am back from Maui, grudgingly though. Man I could live there. Anyhow this is brief and if it is followed by radio silence y'all can assume they kicked my in the cyber jimmy yet again.
And WHAT IS UP WITH YOU ALL!?! Doc and Tish getting testy (not the usual teste) with each other, Bestest gone to hell and scandal. I am off to sit on the couch for some world re-alignment....
