Hey It's Thursday!

I actually started a TT yesterday when I got home from the hospital but I got lazy and sidetracked. So uh....don't look to me for a Halloween TT, mmk? Want to know where you CAN look? Devilish Southern Belle and I are taking over Music Savvy Mama for the next three days to celebrate our personal favorite Holiday. Cause like you know I was not going to let it go unremarked on. They'd yank my Goth Card! Today Belle has up a Thursday Thirteen Playlist Shuffle that takes a look at Halloweens influence on Pop culture. We also put together a GINORMOUS playlist for you listening pleasure. If it is spooky, dark, goofy, and in any way shape or form related to Halloween or Horror movies books and TV...it's in there.

People we run the gamut from Bach to Jason's Segals Dracula's Lament. Cause we deep deep dark little chickies, ya know? Go check it out. I will know if you did or didn't and I will be forced to put a less than lovely spell on you :P

Go show lovies or I'ma smack ya!

All Dressed In Red, Always The Bride

Yay for the weekend! Weekends make me happy. Wanna know what pisses me off? I'll tell you. First of all, Vinny and Trav....turn your heads....BASEBALL! Fuck baseball! Fuck it in it's Glee/Fringe/Bones bumping ass! HATE IT.

Better now.

Poor Kidlet's migraine stifled her first Homecoming week. And she gave up her free Friday last week to decorate the place too. Tonight is the Homecoming Game and I think her Dad and his GF are coming to that as well. There is a tailgate starting at 545 and I think we are going to that as well. Friday Night Lights!

Tomorrow night is my daughter's first High School Dance. How cool is that? I think I am the designated Taxi service for the evening for the girls. I think I am also the designated dresser and doer of the hair. Kidlet is excited. No chaperon duties for Moi. Yay!

Halloween is shaping up nicely. I have the Kidlet, The BFF and The Semi Step, plus I think my friend Hope is going to come with us and bring her nephews and nieces. All Rocky Virgins I might add. The Denton Delinquents Cabaret will be on hand performing it as well. Plus they are showing Repo The Genetic Opera after that. All in all, groovy Halloween fun. Plus I think I might take them to the Haunted House 13th Door out by us after the movie. Kidlet is going as an even more demented than usual Queen of Hearts from Alice. I found her High Heeled Red Sparkly Mary Janes. In other words...Columbia shoes!!

Now for music this week. There are very few artists who get to have an entire album on my iPod. Obviously U2 and Green Day. But one album that easily makes my Top Albums of all time and one of the few complete ones is Celebrity Skin. Courtney is cray-zay but this album is fucking stellar.

TT Great Romantic Couples - The Sequel!!

Welcome to part 2 of my list of my favorite romantic couples. Part one can be found here.

Tom Lefroy and Jane Austen - Becoming Jane - How I wish this were true. Jane, who wrote my all time favorite couple ever, deserved at least a moment or two of her very own Darcy. I think we all do. Props must be given to James for managing to make the line "your horizons need to be...widened" into one seriously naughty line. Stupid movie makes me cry though. Can we bring back happy endings? Please?

Petruchio and Kate - Taming of The Shrew - Let's call them a spicier, more violent, version of Elizabeth and Darcy. And Burton and Taylor made the most of the wonderful lines in the play:

Petruchio: Nay, come, Kate, come; you must not look so sour.
Kate: It is my fashion, when I see a crab.

Patrick Verona and Kat Stratford - 10 Things I Hate About You - The modern retelling of The Taming of the Shrew updated and wonderfully done. I usually loath modern updates of Willy but I love this movie. Heath and Julia had great chemistry and the dialogue was awesome. I'm a sucker for a couple that can dish and take.

"I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme. I hate it, I hate the way you're always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it when you're not around, and the fact that you didn't call. But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all."

Cher and Josh - Clueless - Another modern reworking of a classic, this time Jane Austin's Emma. I love Alicia and I love Paul Rudd and they are just so cute together. As Paula and MC Skat Kat so eloquently noted, opposites attract.

Emma and Knightley - Emma by Jane Austin - Lovely and talented though she may be, Emma is woefully clueless to her inner feelings for most of the book. Emma spends her time wrecking havoc with everyone else's love life, all while completely blind to the love of her life and best friend who has always been right under her nose.

Harry and Sally - When Harry Met Sally - Ah the movie that dared to let the cat, or at least the faked orgasm, out of the bag and to ask the question, "Can men and women ever be just friends?" Love this movie.

Buttercup and Wesley - The Princess Bride. "As you wish."

Nick and Norah - Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist - Never underestimate the power of a good mix tape. Evah.

Jonathan and Sara - Serendipity - Ok so it's John Cusack and I think we all know I pretty much freakin ADORE Cusack. But I love this movie. I have a soft spot for complicated love stories based on the premise of fate. With a little serendipity for good measure.

Holly and Gerry - PS I Love You - Such is power of Gerard Butler that I actually liked Hilary Swank in this. The Pogues help too =)

Randy and Julie - Valley Girl - Romeo and Juliet Redux? Like totally fer shur!

Alex and Emma - Alex and Emma - If you have not seen this movie then you should be renting it soon. It's a movie with a novel in movie form in the center of it and the two leads are awesome. Alex is a writer with money and tango troubles and Emma is the stenographer he hires for dictation. Sparks and one liners proceed to fly.

Emma Dinsmore: "Ample bosom"?
Alex: What's wrong with that? It's literary.
Emma Dinsmore: Oh, well, in that case, you forgot the heaving.
Alex: The what?
Emma Dinsmore: In every book I've ever read, whenever there's an ample bosom, there's always heaving.
Alex: What?
Emma Dinsmore: You introduced the bosom. I'm just asking if you want them to heave.
Alex: Fine, let them heave.

Sabine and Christian - Moulin Rouge - "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return."

Every Day Is Exactly The Same

So this is from last New Year from my private blog and I realized I never moved it over here! I had planned on replicating the drunken blogging experience this weekend but it just didn't pan out since all I watched was movies I had already seen. And then I realized, "Hey! I can rip myself off!! Awesome!"

Now to bring you all up to speed I was clearly feeling no pain by this point in the evening and had planned on watching an online version of an Evelyn Waugh story. He's a favorite of mine. English. You should read. Yes his name is really Evelyn.

But I digress. Anyhow the movie had James McAvoy in it. That was a BIG selling point. Cause like Yum and all, ya know? So I ended up swapping out to Wanted. I give you now my Live Drunken Free Form Blog Review of Wanted from my cranky Holiday self :P

"It is essential to be drunk all the time."

Quote by Baudelaire. Seeing that he drank himself to death he might have wanted to not listen to himself quite so much.

Hey if I am gonna have to youku it I might as well watch Wanted. Not a bad plan.

Ok I am liking this. Snarky first person narration when done right is good. A blase attitude about your best friend fucking your girl friend on your Ikea dining room table is also a good sign. James does an American accent pretty darn good.

(Wesley is the character James plays who is our narrator and hero.)

HAH! He googled himself. I have done that.

OK I think this is his dad and he is uber bad ass.

WTF is that ring tone?!

Is this? Yes I think it is Trent. Yup NIN Every Day Is Exactly The Same.

OMFG! Wesley! BABY GET SOME BALLS! He just payed for the watermelon condoms his best friend is going to screw his girlfriend with! That is sad. Very sad. Of course in the usual nonsensical way of cinema we are supposed to buy his girlfriend doing the cro magnon best fried over James. Um...yeah, sure. LOL....seriously that makes me giggle. Not even with my worst enemies vajayjay!

Ok I'd kill the bitch who is his boss. Just saying.

Nice car stunt Angie.

LOL this guy needs to get laid.

Jeez shooting the wings off of flies. That is a bitch of an initiation.

HAH! 36 million will put a spring in your step. Here is hoping he puts a foot in the ass of his best friend/girlfriend poacher.

OH HELL YEAH! Ergo Keyboard FOR THE WIN!

That was satisfying.

Hah, "do you make sweaters or kill people?" Good one.

Another "I am not a pussy! I have a healthy respect for the human condition!"

Exploding rats?!

Ok Boys if a girl is kicking your ass with brass knuckles, y'all know you can take a swing back, right?

Bad Angie for fucking up that lovely face! His not hers. The whole naked wet Angelina scene was pretty freaking brief. Of course at least you guys GET a naked wet scene. WTH is mine?

Out of white and onto red vino. Ooo...and taquitos!

Ok young Wesley has grown a set.

I am still bitter about the Hollywood double standard. Where is my naked wet James?

Oh hey nice tip to the Greek three sisters of fate and their thread. I like that.

Oooo back story on Angie's character.

Oh I wanna flip my car and shoot people through sunroofs!

Ok Angelina as a revenge fuck (even if it is only implied) is really really cold. "Hey honey look what I dumped you for!" Bet this scene rankles Maniston ;)

That was bitchy but Jennifer Aniston has always annoyed the fuck out of me. And she has ruined John Meyer. Team Angie!

OH SHIT. That was a plot twist I was not expecting.

Terence Stamp! Love him. He was in Priscilla!

And he is a shifty bugger in this.

Oh damn I sense a double cross..........

NUH UH!!

Oh you bitch!

Hello Nurse! We get a shirtless wet James scene. Now I am smiling =)

Insert gratuitous beefcake shot in 5 4 3 2 1

Oh and it is a really long scene at that. Gosh that was mighty nice of them. Oh now we are gonna do shirtless with a black leather jacket. If they had shown this in the previews I God Damn Guarantee you they would have had way more female ass in the theater seats.

Oh PETA must HATE this movie.

Ok this is going to sound bloodthirsty but I am REALLY glad he is using Blondie as a human shield WHILE shooting other people threw his eye socket. I disliked that little asshole.

If that is not the same set they used for the circular library in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen I will eat my hat. Yes I am a movie Geek.

OH. The Anti Lucius Fox!

"What the fuck have you done lately?"

Ride On The Peace Train

It's the 2009 Peace Globe Meme! Stolen with my thanks from Travis =)

I believe that words have power, so this matters

This is the best tag ever. It's about Peace and activism. It's about unity in the bloggosphere. It's about community.

It's about time.

I'm tagging the universe for Mimi, which doesn't leave many left to tag. But it's ok...the great thing about this meme is that you can tag your friends and neighbors on any social network site you prefer.

Peace Globes are on Facebook and Twitter and MySpace!

This meme first appeared in May 2008. Mimi introduced it, and I thought this was a great time to do it again. We're just 16 days out from this year's Blog Blast for Peace.

So speaketh The Queen:

Peace Globes did not begin as a meme. But it began to behave like a meme. Blog to blog to blog. Like a fog. We didn't use the word "tag" ....but that's what we did when we invited others in our blogrolls to participate. The fact that you did so without the obligatory tag is proof that the concept is powerful.

It's a fact that the fastest and most effective way to spiral an idea out of control in the blogosphere is via a meme. I should know! The 700+ bloggers who participated in past launches (and that truly is the tip of The-Iceberg-I-Never-Found) knows what it means to them. It's about unity. We have that in spades. It's about activism, awareness, crossing political lines, making a statement and sharing ideas. We've done that. We have the vision as a core group of bloggers for peace; but we do not - yet - have the power in numbers behind the message.

Peace power?

What a revolutionary idea.

My vision hasn't changed. Nor has my commitment to the project or my willingness to work hard. But if it is to have the influence I know it can - then I have to work smarter. Today, I, Mimi Queen of Memes, toss a slew of beautiful little peaceful globes into the galactic blogosphere - to get the ball rolling.

How far will they go? Where will they land?

Who will catch them? Where will they send them next?

Who will draw a picture, write a poem, make a song, write a post....that might have the power to begin to change the landscape of my world?

Someone will.

Will it be you?
A friend told me earlier this evening "I have a healthy respect for the power of the written word. If we can all get together and do this on the same day, with the right post title, it can have meaning....It can extend the meaning and become more powerful."

Right, my friend. A revolution of words.

Don't you want to know how far your words will reach? Have you ever wondered if what you write has relevance and meaning to someone else? Maybe someone in another country, maybe even a violent place. Or just a lonely space.

I have to believe that there are many others who - given the opportunity - would like to speak for peace. I say we should use all the tools at our disposal to make sure they get the chance.

This meme is a movement.

Let's move it.

BlogBlast For Peace Meme ~ Join The Revolution

Here are the rules and the story.

Copy this into a post and tag as many people as you'd like.

The Peace Globe project began in the fall of 2006 with a simple post from one blog, Mimi Writes. The post ignited a flame in the blogosphere. The flame became a passion. The passion became a movement. It amazingly traveled from blog to blog to blog across the globe. Bloggers wrote passionate articles on what peace means to them, along with the promise of three Latin words scribbled on a globe - Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace) - branded with the integrity of their names or blog names. It was positively inspiring to watch. And it began to happen all over the world - from Singapore to China to Afghanistan to Brooklyn.

It was simple. And powerful.

We will speak with one voice. One subject. One day.

Won't you join us?

On 5 November 2009, DISPLAY YOUR GLOBE IN A POST. Title your post "Dona Nobis Pacem". This is important. The goal is for all blog post titles to say the same thing on the same day. Write about peace that day or simply fly your globe.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE TAGGED TO PLAY.

Please consider passing this meme through the blogosphere.

This is Mimi Pencil Skirt reporting from the lovely land of the Peace Globes.

Memeing the Movement.

End quote from Mimi Writes...

Click on my Lil Worker Bee up top on the left hand sidebar and you will be taken like magic to Mimi's Peace Globe Emporium where you will find everything you need to be one more little box car on The Peace Train.

Um Yeah, Slacker Thursday Thirteen :P

Cause I wanna post one but I am feeling creatively spent. Shot the wad. Nada in the tanks.

Should I keep going or do you have the jist of it? Good =)

So for today's TT I give you 13 bits of Random crap from my brain.

1. Some dumb woman attempted to make left turn - from the right hand lane- in front of me. I felt compelled to yell "What's the problem, Cronezilla? Still not used to not having the horse and buggy?!?" Cause I am a sweet girl like that :P

2. GLEE! Yes I am typing this up Wednesday night and it's SYTYCD and Glee night! From a couple weeks ago I give you Push It.

3. Someone still has half of my brain and I find that fact disturbing :P

4. Jay's Rap keeps climbing the play count on my iTunes. It's at 3 now :P

5. Everyone around me is injuring themselves. Kidlet broke her butt (bruise is still there) and my dad just stepped on a nail. Can all y'all light some candles for me please?

6. Tomorrow is parent teacher conference. Yay. Her dad and I get to wander around the cafeteria hoping to score a moment of time with her teachers. Yippy.

7. I am watching Throw Mama From The Train. Forgot how awesome this movie is. Where for art thou, Billy Crystal?

8. GLEE! (yes I know that was lame, did it anyhow :P )

9. Friday I am going to to the Dad's to have Pizza and watch movies. So he does not go bonkers while mom is in Greece :P

10. The weather here has turned to shit. Yippy. Seasonal Affect Disorder for the next 9 months. Yippy. Whoo hoo.

11. I got tickets for Morrissey!

12. I just sneezed 12 times. I kid you not.

13. Oooo....New Death Cab vid with Twilight stuffies.

Oh and PEACE GLOBES PEOPLE! Click it!

This Is A Neo St Valentine's Massacre

Yay it's Friday!! Right? Right?

Yeah well my weekend is going to bust my butt. Friday I have to work 6-3 so I can get the kidlet and take her to Gee-tar. While she is there I need to hit Barnes and Nobles and the Postal Annex. Saturday we are working 11-3 setting up Pioneer Courthouse Square for the AIDS Walk.

Then it is home to rest up. Sunday we are picking up the Kidlet's BFF at 7am and hauling back downtown for The Walk. We are working the Kid's Corner from 8-130. Then we haul it back to Hillsboro and drop BFF off then we head to my parents where we will have Pizza and watch Crank 2 with my dad. Then, lucky me, I get to go back to work! At this rate it is going to be Christmas before I know it. GAH. So this will most likely be my last post until Monday.

That said I would like to thank all of you who have donated (and one Gentleman in particular who knows who he is) for all of your donations. Once again it does look like the economy is going to hurt us. It's so sad. 2007 we raised over 600k. Last year it was 300k. This year we are hoping for 325k. I think we will make it and all of you had a part in it.

As you all know I spent a lot of time in the late 80's taking care of AIDS patients. They became my friends. And they are all gone. I want to thank all of you for your support. It really means a lot to me =)

Click the banner to be taken to my donation page. Thank you for your support!!

Those wishing to donate less than 20 dollars please send it via Paypal.

Blog Blast For Peace Reminder

Mimi's Blog Blast for Peace is coming up right quick and in a hurry. You can find your template HERE. Plus all the instructions you need to for sending your Globe to Mimi.

Remember Peace has to start somewhere, one mind at a time.

I am slacking hardcore on the post today because all of a sudden it became 10pm and I got shit for ideas :P Although I can tell you that my next Thursday Thirteen is gonna be 13 of my favorite quotes ala Harold and Kumar. It promises to be funny and obscene. In other words, made of win.

Lemme see. Kidlet broke her butt. Fell down stairs. Mama is SO proud. Big old bruise on it. She made me take a picture of it so she could see it. Crack. Head.

My Mom should be landing in Greece shortly where she will be until the 31st of October. LUCKY!!!

This weekend is the AIDS Walk. Kidlet and I will be working both days...I am doing the Kid's Corner. Moi. Yeah I know :P

And with that..peace out!

Oh and music. Totally not all of my songs but I crashed and burned on adding them.
