Lights Going Out And A Kick In The Balls - That's Entertainment
Oh vacations are tiring. Coming back and having to deal with Comcast...also tiring. Although I must say they are always on time and always very helpful. Obviously I am back. Be of good cheer, Starrlight is here!
The plays were great. Our fellow audience members...interesting.
Romeo and Juliet was first up. They actually played a good deal of the lines for laughs which is a rather fresh approach I thought. They did take some liberties with it ala the costumes. The older generation wore traditional Italian Renaissance clothing while the younger generation (Romeo, Juliet, Tybalt, Mercutio et all) were dressed in modern clothing. It worked. And I am a purist. The whole feel was a definite nod to the Baz Luhrmann version and had a few sly references to other versions including a tiny musical moment from Mercutio with the classic fight music from West Side Story. It was a nice touch.
The acting was good. Not great, with the exception of the guys who played
Benvolio and Mercutio. The guy who played Mercutio also played Caliban in The Tempest. And let me tell you, he was good. Looking at his credit it looks like he goes for the character role rather than the leading. I sure hope he is back next year because he was excellent.
Now the kid who played Romeo also played Ferdinand in The Tempest. Not a bad actor but SO FUCKING TOM CRUISESQUE. And we all know I fucking hate Tom Cruise. I kept expecting Romeo to start jumping on a couch and shouting "Help Me Oprah!!" and that was just disconcerting, ya know?
Both Juliet and Miranda were well played although they seemed to be virtually interchangeable. And let's face it, neither of them are the brightest chickies around either. Juliet talks way too much before sucking down the knock out poison. And Miranda is somewhat dingy. Which irked kidlet since of course I named her that. I had to explain to her that I picked the name cause I loved it and the story of The Tempest. Had I gone for a sharp character it would have been Kate. As it was my three choices were all Shakespearean. Miranda, Cordelia, or Portia. And I could have named her Ophelia, and god knows she more than slightly dim :P
For The Tempest, both Prospero and Ariel we excellent and made that play along with an excellent supporting cast, and mercifully the Tom Factor is lower than in Romeo and Juliet due to Ferdinand being a much smaller role.
We ate well on this trip too. Had lunch at an English pub where Kidlet was stunned and overjoyed to be able to order a plate of mashies and peas. I had fish and chips. For dinner our first night we ate at Larks where we had a crab fondue that is very nearly heaven on earth and had a sinful chocolate creme brulee with kirsch soaked cherries. Now that, RR, is Yum Oh you silly twat. That aside was for Matt, just for the record :P
And we ate at Chateaulin and it was beyond wonderful. Kidlet and I had Filet and Mom had the lamb special. And we had salads and a ridiculously expensive bottle of wine that was amazing.
Now then, our fellow audience members were less than fab. First night I had a massively farty man next to me. The second night I had a man with a freakishly large head in front of me, while mom had a tourettes kid next to her. It was so very David Lynch.
Now no trip would be worth writing home about without bling, am I right ladies? So with that in mind, I forced myself to get this for myself

The line is from R+J and the full quote is
"With love's light wings did I o'er-perch these walls;
For stony limits cannot hold love out"
And this one for Kidlet, from The Tempest
"We are such stuff as dreams are made on"

And now I am off to watch a new documentary on Titanic and have my coffee. I love the History International Channel!

Glorified Version Of A Pellet Gun
Ya know what? I liked the misheard version "glorified version of a pelican" much better. It's so Vedder, ya know?
Ola peoples. It would appear that my wireless router is not a happy camper. Totally not comcastic. Kidlet is at home and NOT amused. Long story short, there will be no story today as I won't have net connection at home :P
The geeks are coming tomorrow between 10-12. Yippy.

It Never Goes Away But It All Works Out
Talk about a hectic weekend. I worked both days and over 8 on each. Went up to Camas on Saturday as Miss H is back from Texas. Had Thai and hung out. Came home, got sucked into a movie Saturday night and stayed up too damn late. Yesterday I was in at 6am again and then had to get a new black top on my way home. Why the shopping you ask? Because I applied for a job on Thursday, got a call on Friday, and have an interview today. Oi.
Dunno if I want it. Pretty well positive they would not be down with paying me what I would need to be payed to not lose money. 400-500 hours of overtime a year adds up. And since the position is supervisory I know damn well it will require more than 40 hours AND it is salaried. Me no like losing money so they would have to seriously cough up the dough.
So did laundry and packed and watched a ton of movie last night. Got up at got in here today at 5:45. Interview is in my cafe at 12:15. Watch my boss be having lunch in there at the same time :P

Taking off today at 3 and heading down to Eugene tonight with Kidlet and Mom. Tomorrow we drive to Ashland. I think we see R+J tomorrow night. Ashland is really gorgeous. It is probably my most favorite place in this state outside of the coast. Lithia park (see below) is gorgeous but the swans suck. ALL swans suck. They hate me :p

Ashland also has a fabulous French Restaurant called Chateaulin where I shall be having escargot soon.

I am bringing the laptop but I am doubtful on wireless at our Ashland hotel and even if I do, I am not holding my breath on having a lot of time to post. So you people be good. Well someone of you will have issues with that but ya know what I mean :P

Is This Some Kharmic-Chi Love Thing Happening Here Baby Or What?

Lovely and Feathery Sparky Duck has awarded me a Schmoozie and I am just so tickled. I have always KNOWN I was a schmoozer. Heck I worked for Kaiser, of course I can bring it! I particularly liked Spark's alternate definition of schmooze,
"Also think schmoozing is having a way with words that you are able to call someone an asshole to there face and they actually say thank you for the compliment with a smile. So, as I hand out this lovely honor to 4 more recipients, I will allow my winners to decide which side of the definition they fall on."
Oh yeah, I can roll like that! Of course much as I love The Duck, he did steal my Matt Taggie (shut up Bond!) but I shall try to survive.....
My 4 Schmoozin Bloggers are
Bond over at THE COUCH. I love this blog and it's owner. Bond is an awesome and and lovely human being as well. His fiction is amazing, go read the matinees! And if you want to see the finest example of blogging community involvement go check out his latest post and join us in his latest mission. Or you can go directly to my next choice!
Dixie's Heart And Soul. This lady is one class act folks. She brings both heart and soul to her blog. Please head on over and while there, wish her son Matt good luck and safe travels as he heads to basic training with the US Marine Corp. Thank you Dixie for sharing this journey with us.
Next up, who else but Kyra at 108th? How can I not give her the schmooze lovin's? She is making me one of her bitches. You don't get schmoozier than that. And just cause I wuvs her I actually gave her a picture. Kyra's place makes me think, makes me laugh, and occasionally snort beverages out my nose. Got to love that.
And last, but certainly not least, The Lovely and Athletic Desert Songbird over at The Icebox. Always there with a zinger when I need one, I just love this lady! Go read now!
That about wraps it up for me, I am off to slay more trees in the name of overtime. Speaking of U2 (yes I know, cheesy lead in) go check out The Ducks U2 Contest. But suck at it cause I wanna win, ok? Cause he is claiming little known U2 songs and that is a bold statement that I must see for myself.

Strange Fruit Hangin From The Poplar Trees
I received this email today and after reading all of the attached references and doing some websurfing I must tell you all my jaw just dropped. Call me silly and naive, after Katrina you would think I would have learned. But man, people can still stun me in the worst possible ways.
Please read and do what you can. Donations for the defense fund are requested. Please help if you can.
Last fall in Jena, Louisiana, the day after two Black high school students sat beneath the "white tree" on their campus, nooses were hung from the tree. When the superintendent dismissed the nooses as a "prank," more Black students sat under the tree in protest. The District Attorney then came to the school accompanied by the town's police and demanded that the students end their protest, telling them, "I can be your best friend or your worst enemy... I can take away your lives with a stroke of my pen."1
A series of white-on-black incidents of violence followed, and the DA did nothing. But when a white student was beaten up in a schoolyard fight, the DA responded by charging six black students with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
It's a story that reads like one from the Jim Crow era, when judges, lawyers and all-white juries used the justice system to keep blacks in "their place"--but it's happening today. The families of these young men are fighting back, but the odds are stacked against them. Together, we can make sure their story is told, that this becomes an issue for the Governor of Louisiana, and that justice is provided for the Jena 6. It starts now. Please add your voice:

The noose-hanging incident and the DA's visit to the school set the stage for everything that followed. Racial tension escalated over the next couple of months, and on November 30, the main academic building of Jena High School was burned down in an unsolved fire. Later the same weekend, a black student was beaten up by white students at a party. The next day, black students at a convenience store were threatened by a young white man with a shotgun. They wrestled the gun from him and ran away. While no charges were filed against the white man, the students were arrested for the theft of the gun.2
That Monday at school, a white student, who had been a vocal supporter of the students who hung the nooses, taunted the black student who was beaten up at the off-campus party and allegedly called several black students "nigger." After lunch, he was knocked down, punched and kicked by black students. He was taken to the hospital but was released and was well enough to go to a social event that evening.3
Six Black Jena High students, Robert Bailey (17), Theo Shaw (17), Carwin Jones (18), Bryant Purvis (17), Mychal Bell (16) and an unidentified minor, were expelled from school, arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder. Bail was set so high -- between $70,000 and $138,000 -- that the boys were left in prison for months as families went deep into debt to release them.4
The first trial ended last month, and Mychal Bell, who has been in prison since December, was convicted of aggravated battery and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery (both felonies) by an all-white jury in a trial where his public defender called no witnesses. During his trial, Mychal's parents were ordered not to speak to the media and the court prohibited protests from taking place near the courtroom or where the judge could see them.
Mychal is scheduled to be sentenced on July 31st, and could go to jail for 22 years.5 Theo Shaw's trial is next. He will finally make bail this week.
The Jena Six are lucky to have parents and loved ones who are fighting tooth and nail to free them. They have been threatened but they are standing strong. We know that if the families have to go it alone, their sons will be a long time coming home. They will lose precious years to Jena's outrageous attempt to maintain a racist status quo. But if we act now, we can make a difference.
Please add your voice to the voices of these families in Jena, and help bring Mychal, Theo, Robert, Carwin, and Bryant home. By clicking below, you can demand that Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco get involved to make sure that justice is served for Mychal Bell, and that DA Reed Walters drop the charges against the 5 boys who have not yet gone to trial.

Thursday Thirteen 22 - You Sail Away From The Light Of The World On This Trip, Baby
Last week I gave you 13 of my favorite lines from R+J. This week it is The Tempest's turn!
He that dies pays all debts.
How many goodly creatures are there here!
How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world,
That has such people in't!
Our revels are now ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits and
Are melted into are, into thin air;
And, like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself
Yea all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with sleep. .
Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were his eyes:
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange
ARIEL'S SONG
Come unto these yellow sands,
And then take hands:
Curtsied when you have, and kiss'd,--
The wild waves whist,--
Foot it featly here and there;
And, sweet sprites, the burden bear.
Hark, hark!
[Burden: Bow, wow, dispersedly.]
The watch dogs bark:
[Burden: Bow, wow, dispersedly.]
Hark, hark! I hear
The strain of strutting Chanticleer
[Cry, Cock-a-diddle-dow.]
Misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows.
My library
Was dukedom large enough.
Oh, what a deal of scorn looks beautiful
In the contempt and anger of his lip!
The fringed curtains of thine eye advance.
Fill all thy bones with aches
Sir, the truth you speak doth lack some gentleness. You rub the sore when you should bring the plaster.
He receives comfort like cold porridge
Now my charms are all o'erthrown,
And what strength I have's mine own,
Which is most faint: now, 'tis true,
I must be here confined by you,
Or sent to Naples. Let me not,
Since I have my dukedom got
And pardon'd the deceiver, dwell
In this bare island by your spell;
But release me from my bands
With the help of your good hands:
Gentle breath of yours my sails
Must fill, or else my project fails,
Which was to please. Now I want
Spirits to enforce, art to enchant,
And my ending is despair,
Unless I be relieved by prayer,
Which pierces so that it assaults
Mercy itself and frees all faults.
As you from crimes would pardon'd be,
Let your indulgence set me free.
He that dies pays all debts.
How many goodly creatures are there here!

The Archive Meme!
Kyra at The 108th has invented a brand new, fresh out of the oven Meme!
This is how it will work:
-Go back through your archives and post the links to your five favorite blog posts that you've written. ... but there is a catch:
Link 1 must be about family.
Link 2 must be about friends.
Link 3 must be about yourself, who you are... what you're all about...
Link 4 must be about something you love
Link 5 can be anything you choose.
Kyra thinks (and I agree) that this is a great way to circulate some of the great older posts everyone had written, return to a few great places in our memories and also learn a little something about ourselves and each other that we may not know.
Post your five links and then tag five other people. At least TWO of the people you tag must be newer acquaintences so that you get to know each other better.... and don't forget to read the archive posts and leave comments!
Here are my links:
Family - My kid kicks ass.
Friends - Ya know I don't blog much about my friends mostly as I feel like I need to respect their privacy. There is a ton of stuff I could blog about Miss H, but she might sue me :P
Me - I get really really REALLY upset over things like this. Those that know me, know my love of the soap box.
Something I love - One of many things.
My Choice - Getting all serious on you.
And I am tagging
MattMan
Sparky
Travis
Miss Frou Frou
The Gouda

I'd Like To Know Where The Riverboat Sails Tonight
Hi Y'all! I am back from the Kidlet and Starr roadtrip. We had an awesome time! The concert was kick ass as I have written. We got up Saturday morning and hit the mall from some Converse shopping therapy. Kidlet used her money to get liquid eyeliner from MAC and she is now a convert.
Then we sat through the hippy traffic (try going only 6 miles in one hour) but finally we were on our way. It was gorgeous out, 85 and sunny. We got to Florence and then drove up Hwy 101 to Newport and Depoe Bay. Our Bed and Breakfast was run by a guy who must be a chef, told us they had a price fix dinner 3 course with dessert that was French themed in honor of Bastille Day. 20 bucks a head! It was an awesome dinner. The dining room faced the Harbor and the bridge and we got to watch the fishing boats come in while we ate. Dinner was chilled zucchini and sorrel soup with creme fraiche and dill. A ragout of chanterelles and oysters in the a brandy creme garlic sauce. Main course was Prawns and Langoustine with veggies in a citrus tarragon sauce. Then came dessert. Oh my god people. I could have just had 4 or 5 of those. Ginger Creme Brulee with candied blueberries. It was so F'in good.
Got up yesterday and had our continental breakfast and took off to walk the boardwalk in Depoe Bay. Sunday was rainy and misty and around 64 degrees. Only in Oregon in July do you get that! We drove up to Lincoln City and went to watch a Glass Blowing display at a local artists. He was awesome and walked us through all the steps as he made a float and then an oil lamp. It was great. We decided to drive all the way to Cannon Beach to eat at the Mo's there. Had our chowder and shrimp cocktails and then headed for home.
All in all, a great trip. Now we have a week to get ready for our next trip to Ashland for the Shakespeare Fest.

Mommy's Little Monster Broke All The Rules
OMFG did that concert kick some ass. Whole huge HEAPS of ass. Social D was just fucking awesome. The concert was outdoors, the weather was perfect, and they played their version of Under My Thumb and Six More Miles. It was beautiful. We had a huge fucking mosh pit with much slam dancing and body surfing. And a shit ton of kids were there. Mike Ness called for all the little ones to come on stage and then said he called them up there to give thanks to the Old School crowd for passing on the torch. Kidlet didn't go up cause frankly Kidlet looks about as 12 as I do!
She got a killer t-shirt and I got a gray Social D hoodie. It was awesome cause while I do so love me some Green Day, Social D is old school punk. When you have bad ass mofo's in spiked Motorhead jackets beating the shit out of each other in the pit, you know you are at a punk concert. Plaid pants from Lip Services does not a punk rocker make. Kidlet got a kick out of it cause we were all moshing our asses off, including her geriatric mother. I do so love their version of Under My Thumb. More so than the original. Sorry Mick! They saved Ring of Fire for the encore and last song of the night.
Much fun was made of the hippies right down the road at the Oregon Country Fair. Funny part is? Kidlet's dad, aunt and uncle, and dad's girlfriend are at the fair. I do Social D, they do Hippie fair. I grew up Hippie, what the fuck do I wanna go hang out with a bunch of smelly poser hippies for?
Went to IHOP after the show cause it is a tradition. You must eat breakfast at at dinner of some sorts after a concert. This IHOP happens to be down the street from my old dorm at U of O. Talk about flashbacks.
Kidlet be sleeping still. We got a king sized bed. What luxury, my god. I want one at home! We are off to Florence for lunch at Mo's and then off to Newport and then maybe to tour Haceta Lighthouse. It's haunted ya, know. And we LOVE haunted places. One of the things we plan to do on our road trip next summer is visit haunted places along the way. Alrighty time for me to go hit the showers and wake the Kidlet. Doubtful we will have net connection for the remainder of the trip so this is it for me until Monday!

Thirteen Is My Lucky Number
Social Distortion Time!!
Today is the day Kidlet and I pack up and take off for our Weekend Road Trip. She is still sleeping and I am doing laundry. Gonna wake her up at 9:30ish and get us both showered and packed and out the door. Me with my new leopard skinned laptop bag and 520 (yes Sparky....520) count CD case. Her with her new Hot Pink laptop case that she plans to graffiti all to hell.
We need to hit Hot Topic for an Emily the Strange T Shirt and the Mall for a Proactive refill and then the open road for Eugene, Oregon. The concert is tonight at 7 at Secret House Winery in Veneta but our hotel is in Eugene. Not like we are talking a huge distance. And I did grow up in Eugene. Oh the joy of driving down memory lane.
Never go to your high school in the middle of summer when it is nice and quiet and take your kid with you. It will FUCK with your head. That is all.
Tomorrow we head to Florence Oregon and then drive up the coast to Depoe Bay. The weather has cooled off which makes me most happy. 104 sucked.
We shall try to achieve net connection this weekend but if we don't, everyone be safe and happy and have a great weekend!

Thursday Thirteen 21- I Will Sell My Soul For Something Pure And True
In honor of my upcoming trip to Ashland for the Shakespeare Festival my next two TT will be dedicated to Mr. Will. First up, 13 quotes from Romeo and Juliet. Well not so much quotes as passages.
The Queen Mab Speech. My personal favorite! Points if you can name the Duran Duran video in which Simon LeBon quotes the opening lines ;)
Mercutio
O, then, I see Queen Mab hath been with you.
She is the fairies' midwife, and she comes
In shape no bigger than an agate-stone
On the fore-finger of an alderman,
Drawn with a team of little atomies
Athwart men's noses as they lie asleep;
Her wagon-spokes made of long spiders' legs,
The cover of the wings of grasshoppers,
The traces of the smallest spider's web,
The collars of the moonshine's watery beams,
Her whip of cricket's bone, the lash of film,
Her wagoner a small grey-coated gnat,
Not so big as a round little worm
Prick'd from the lazy finger of a maid;
Her chariot is an empty hazel-nut
Made by the joiner squirrel or old grub,
Time out o' mind the fairies' coachmakers.
And in this state she gallops night by night
Through lovers' brains, and then they dream of love;
O'er courtiers' knees, that dream on court'sies straight,
O'er lawyers' fingers, who straight dream on fees,
O'er ladies ' lips, who straight on kisses dream,
Which oft the angry Mab with blisters plagues,
Because their breaths with sweetmeats tainted are:
Sometime she gallops o'er a courtier's nose,
And then dreams he of smelling out a suit;
And sometime comes she with a tithe-pig's tail
Tickling a parson's nose as a' lies asleep,
Then dreams, he of another benefice:
Sometime she driveth o'er a soldier's neck,
And then dreams he of cutting foreign throats,
Of breaches, ambuscadoes, Spanish blades,
Of healths five-fathom deep; and then anon
Drums in his ear, at which he starts and wakes,
And being thus frighted swears a prayer or two
And sleeps again. This is that very Mab
That plats the manes of horses in the night,
And bakes the elflocks in foul sluttish hairs,
Which once untangled, much misfortune bodes:
This is the hag, when maids lie on their backs,
That presses them and learns them first to bear,
Making them women of good carriage:
This is she-
Romeo
Peace, peace, Mercutio, peace!
Thou talk'st of nothing.
Mercutio
True, I talk of dreams,
Which are the children of an idle brain,
Begot of nothing but vain fantasy,
Which is as thin of substance as the air
And more inconstant than the wind, who wooes
Even now the frozen bosom of the north,
And, being anger'd, puffs away from thence,
Turning his face to the dew-dropping south
O! she doth teach the torches to burn bright (my second favorite line)
Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow, That I shall say good night till it be morrow
When he shall die, take him and cut him out in little stars and he will make the face of heaven so fine that all the world will be in love with night and pay no worship to the garish sun.
O, swear not by the moon, the fickle moon, the inconstant moon, that monthly changes in her circle orb, Lest that thy love prove likewise variable.
Is love a tender thing? It is too rough, too rude, too boisterous; and it pricks like thorn.
These violent delights have violent ends
And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, W
hich as they kiss consume.
It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night
Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope's ear.
A plague o' both your houses,
They have made worms' meat of me.
See, how she leans her cheek upon her hand! O that I were a glove upon that hand that I might touch that cheek!
What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
Wilt thou be gone? it is not yet near day:
It was the nightingale, and not the lark,
That pierced the fearful hollow of thine ear;
Nightly she sings on yon pomegranate-tree:
Believe me, love, it was the nightingale.
A glooming peace this morning with it brings. The sun for sorrow will not show his head. Go hence and have more talk of these sad things. Some shall be pardoned, and some punished. For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo.

They're All Made Out Of Ticky Tacky And They All Look Just The Same
Sunburns suck.
Apparently I managed to fry the back of my neck Saturday while doing all of that planting. And the chain I have my cross on is not exactly lightweight or smooth.
...Mazzy Star....grr.
Sorry but I feel the need to record just how much this song likes to stalk me. I mean damn! What next, Dido?
So anyhow, my digression is done. Got to the office early. And it was cold! Yesterday and Saturday? Hot. Well Saturday it was more along the lines of airless. Yesterday was hot though. And it is only gonna get better. Supposed to be 100+ by Wednesday. It is gonna be a hot one for the Social D concert.

I got sucked into Weeds this weekend. I missed a few of each season so I went back to catch up. Ended up watching all of seasons one and nearly all of season two. Which now I have to finish. Such a great show. I would keep cable just for Showtime. What with The Tudors and Dexter and Weeds, it is the best tv on tv. If you do not have Showtime, you must rent Season 1 and 2 of Weeds. Funniest show I have seen in ages.
The more I ponder the above referenced Social D concert the more I think we will be going to the beach and staying over on Saturday. It was such a gorgeous drive I took on Saturday....it's official, just booked a room for Saturday night in Depoe Bay. We can spend a nice weekend driving to Depoe Bay and hanging out at the beach and then head back up Hwy 101 and take Hwy 6 home. That will be fun!
I love to drive. It is my therapy. That is why next summer's road trip is going to be doable. Spendy but doable. I am looking forward to that!
Alrighty. Time for more java.

And I Knew Without Askin' She Was Into The Blues
Ahh the office. So quiet. So fucking hot at 6:30 in the AM. It is going to be unpleasant in here today. Yesterday I gardened. I know I am in a condo what am doing gardening?! I like gardening. I'm Greek, it is in our blood. I bought two planter color pots that were already done and then planted some Ajuga and zinnias and Gazania and replanted my lavender with some nice scarlet begonia's. Just like the song :P
I also finally figured out what plant this is ...

...and where to buy it so I got me a couple of those and planted them in my big back deck container. I find it amusing they are called Lucifer.
Then got bored/twitchy around 4 so I said WTF and drove to the beach. It made for a nice 3+ hour drive as I went via HWY 6 which is, in my opinion, MUCH prettier than the traditional way of getting to the beach Via HWY 26.
Ended up swapping weekends with the Ex so I am Kidlet free. So I am in today and next weekend I don't have to rush home after the Social D concert. We may head over to the beach and stay Saturday night at the coast.
And now for your "It's Sunday, Starr, don't make me think!" portion of your post, here are some quizzes to play with!

There's A World I've Always Known Somewhere Far Away From Home
Ola people! How was everyone's 4th? Kidlet and I parked it on a picnic table outside of a pizza place in Banks and watched fireworks. It was fun, we had a great view.
No kidlet tonight so I get to just hang out and babble at you people. Wednesday's off are funky. Actually I used to work 4 10's with Wednesday off and I seem to remember liking it. This week it just felt confusing.
I work tomorrow. I work a great deal this month. On the plus side a week from now I will be at the Social Distortion concert in Eugene. And then at the end of the month it is The Oregon Shakespeare Festival for two plays. Look for Shakespeare themed Thursday Thirteens. Cause I love me some Willy Shakes.
I got a kick out of this story regarding Live Earth. After having had the concert in DC blocked by The Happy Republicans, there is something so ironically delicious about Native American's stepping up to host a concert promoting saving the earth.
I am half assed watching Waiting For Guffman so don't be surprised if my train of thought wrecks. Who knew that Christopher Guest was actually LORD Christopher Guest? I find that nearly as amusing as the fact that Patrica Quinn is now Lady Stephens. That amuses me tremendously.
And now, I am off to get coffee and rip more CD's. I think I am up to nearly 29 GB and 7669 files :P

The Simpsons!
Ok people go vote. Specifically go vote for Springfield Oregon. Cause, COME ON! Matt is from here and half the damn characters are named for places and streets here in Portland :P
Vote Oregon!
Oh and Happy B Day, W. Ya Dick. I so hope that Matt Man's version of Cheney gives you a niiiice present today.
More later when I get home as I am kidlet free and taking a night off from ripping cd's to my laptop. Oh and there has been a Death Star update for those in the know.

Thursday Thirteen #20 - There's A Stain On My Notebook Where Your Coffee Cup Was
I am a Java Junkie. The Caffeine Queen. Princess Latte. Well not lattes, I generally drink coffee coffee and not La Foo Foo coffee. I live at Starbucks, and that is not me being dramatic. I am there all the time. And while the people there can be asshats I am addicted to my java. So for shits and giggles I decided to toss up some of my many many Starbucks Cards.

I Don't Believe In Painted Roses Or Bleeding Hearts
Yesterday was mega movie day, and lucky you all, you get my take on a couple of them! I was slacker girl when I got home. Took a hot shower, put on the pj's and parked it on the couch for the remainder of the day. I worked my way through not 1, not 2, but *3* movies!
First up was The Painted Veil. Now I have to admit I went into it with a bit of reservation as I ADORE Someret Maugham and hold adaptations of his work to a high standard. I was quite happy then to have this version turn out to be not only very good, but also much more faithful to the book than the 1930's Garbo film.
Naomi Watts was so good in this that I actually forgot to look for a slimy little girl stalking her. And here I thought the girl was permanently type cast as Samara bait.
Edward Norton was his usual stellar self. I really think he is under-rated or at least under acknowledged as a great actor. Contrast this with say Fight Club or Death to Smoochy and you have a pretty good idea of his range. They filmed the movie in China and it really does give it a much more authentic feel. The movie is billed as a romance, although I would say it is more a look at the human heart than a true romance. Not a chick flick, fyi. Highly recommended.
Next up I watched watched John Tucker Must Die and found it to be not quite as stupid as I thought it would be. It was, frankly, saved by Jesse Metcalfe as John Tucker himself. The girls were, eh ok. Sophie Bush always reminds me of that heinous show One Tree Hill (which should apologize repeatedly for fuxoring the name of one of my all time favorite U2 songs) and that makes me think of Chad Michael Murray. Which makes me think of "The Chad" from the first Charlie's Angels movie as played by Tom Green. Which always reminds me of his testicle drama that left him a uni-baller. Which makes me think of Hitler.....
Dizzy? Yeah me too. So while it didn't suck, JTMD sure didn't captivate my attention :P
Last up was The DaVinci Code. How the hell did they manage to suck the fun out of that story? How?!! Proof positive that a great book does not always translate to a great movie. Jebus, what a suck rendition. And I *LIKE* these actors. Tom Hanks...who doesn't like Tom Hanks? Jean Reno....are we joking. The man is incredible. Ian McKellen? Legend. Paul Bettany? Awesome actor, but even his admittedly cute ass could not save this movie. Must have been the Stephen King Pet Cemetaryesque contact lens he wears as the crazed albino. I was bummed. That should have been a good movie =(
So there you have it. My advice? See The Painted Veil. Oh and read the book too, mmk?

Put On Your Red Shoes And Dance The Blues
Yawn.
At work. Again. July is officially here and this is just about my busiest month. February reigns supreme by a hand full of groups and the fact that it only has 28 days. Yes I know I get a whole extra day every leap year. Weeeee!
Anyhow, I think I have around 350 groups in July. Now times each of those by 35 minutes and you get my workload for the month. Approx 204 hours. Just heads down working them. No phone calls, no ups or extras, no emails, no questions, no nothing. There are 21 business days consisting (traditionally) of 8 hour days in July. 168 hour. Which leaves me a 36 hour deficit just to do these groups! Which is why I am here. Happy Dance.
I have errands to run today too. According to Mom I must stop and get A Dirty Job - By Christopher Moore because it is apparently funnah as hell and mom says he talks like me. Which must mean he has a potty mouth and a tendency to veer wildly from subject to subject. I also am dying to get the third book by John Burdett in his Bangkok series, Bangkok Haunts. The first two books have been so good I fully intend to buy them as well and have the entire series. He reminds me so very much of John Irving without being in the least bit derivative of Iriving. So Barnes and Noble is on the list for stop off at home. Although if I go and don't take Kidlet...oooo she is gonna be pissed! Ok maybe Barnes and Noble should be tomorrow night after I pick her up. I can do that.
I also need to stop off at Michael's Craft store or some such craft store and get wreath for my front door. Cause it looks bare and sucktastic and I have wreath envy over my neighbors. That is like Commandment 11 right? Thou Shall Not Covet Thy Neighbors Door Swag.
OH! I totally almost spaced it. Looking for song suggestions for a roadtrip mix. Got the Social D concert in Eugene and then the Drive to Ashland Oregon coming up for the Shakespeare Festival. Sticking with a Delta Blues/early decca jazz vibe with some current alt country and classics such as Cash and Charles tossed in. Leave me your suggestions. Yes Bond, I am lookin right hard at YOU.
Alright then, off to kill some trees, massage the English language into legalese and possibly have oatmeal. Dunno on the last.
