Harley is home and I am finally going back to work tomorrow. Harley is doing good. Sleepy and on a foo foo diet. Oh and he is going to be on tagamet for the rest of little life in addition to his eyedrops. And the bugger is not even 3 until May 1st! He is in worse shape than I am.
Still tired and still coughing, although at this point I think it is allergies. It stopped in Utah. Came back here in Orygon. I think the difference is the dry cold weather versus the sunny warm we are having here.
Hopefully I can offer up something more entertaining that the cliff notes to my existence but I am guessing a recharge much like The Bond is currently doing. So unless my Muse wakes up and jabs me in the ass with a trident of inspiration, I will catch you all on Monday!

Home Sweet Home, Or Not
Kidlet and I are back. It has been an horribly tiring week with very little sleep and finished off with a delayed flight back. Top that with getting home at 4am and stepping in a nice puddle of blood from your cat who is once again trying to die on you and that should give you some idea of where I am at. Harley is sick again and I have gone beyond hitting the wall. I am through the wall. I will try to post an actual post tomorrow sometime after I catch up on my sleep. Hope all is well with everyone.

Where It's At
Well our travel plans are made. We fly out to Utah Friday at 7am and fly back Sunday at 10pm. The viewing will be Friday night and the funeral will be Saturday morning. We met with the mortuary yesterday and they help arrange the flights and coordinated with the church. I have to tell you, burial costs are spendy, but when they will handle booking the flights for transport coordinate with the church and the other mortuary, they are worth it. One thing that was freaky there was they had a foo foo garbage can that was motion detecting. THAT was not cool in a mortuary to have the can just open up on its own.
Both kidlet and I woke up with killer migraines this morning. I think the stress caught up with both of us. We did the mall this afternoon after we felt better and got our clothes for the trip. It is supposed to be like 28 degrees and snowy on Saturday morning so we had to make sure we had warm enough clothes for the burial service.
I have a really cool history of my grandfather's WWII battalion, the 1276th Engineers. It's a time line that runs from their inception to their decom at the end of the war. I will be getting that printed off tomorrow after work. Also have to do some shopping and get some stuff for the house. My life saver friend Hope is going to come over and cat sit for me on Saturday night. That way I don't have to board Harley and Gabriel and Harley will get his eye drops. So I don't have to deal with the cat run around cause the vet is in the middle of a remodel. I need to clean up the house, and set up the cats. Plus get some snacks for her.
Going to work tomorrow and then doing the errands. Mom and Gramps fly out tomorrow. We are spending one night at a hotel and then spending Saturday night at my cousin Athena's. She is going to host the wake after the funeral so we can just hang out there and spend Sunday there as well. We are taking Monday off since our plane doesn't land until nearly 11 pm. I may or may not be posting before then, and I may be able to do a quickie update at Athena's but we are not taking our laptops. So if I am absent from your blogs, I promise to make it up next week =)

Gramps
Hi All
Just wanted to let you all know Gramps passed tonight around 630. It was very peaceful. I will be missing in action for the day at least so I wanted to let you all know before I went radio silence.

Here Comes The Sun
Hey all checking in. Worked for a bit yesterday and then did some errands for mom and stopped in to see Gramps. Kidlet and I are going back this afternoon. So far Gramps is looking comfortable which is the main thing now. Hallucinating somewhat due to the meds but resting comfortably.
Thanks for all the kind words. I have such a lovely collection of readers out there. Kidlet is taking it pretty hard. If you look at our ages I suppose it is fairly rare for someone who is 13 to have had a close relationship with a great grandparent and at 39 I think I have to be one of the few folks out there with a grandparent still alive. It's that Mediterranean diet people. Go buy olive oil right now.
It is supposed to be sunny and 60 today and I am going to try to take kidlet on a drive. We both need some fresh air and a wee get out of the house after the looong strep throat and cold crap. I still cough a bit. How is that for the suck? Anyhow we need a brief drive with some good music and a nice cold coke. Then she can spend tomorrow cleaning her room!

It Ought To Be Easy Ought To Be Simple Enough
Happy Hallmark and Hershey Day!!
Sorry but Valentines days annoys me on many levels, the least of it being the manufactured sentiment part. On the plus side Greg Glover over at KNRK did one hell of an 8 @ 8 today and included my very most favorite evah Bruce Springsteen song. From my favorite album by the Boss no less. And the best part of it is while driving Miss Thang to school yesterday they did the lead in thing on the Adam Carolla show and used the start of the song, and then CUT IT! I hate that. So the fact that Greg played the whole thing was awesome. Lot of other great songs today. I Want Candy, Two Hearts Beat As One, Shoot That Poison Arrow, Lips Like Sugar, Love My Way, and the 'Mats Valentine. Plus Perfect Way by that freakishly 80's band Scritti Politti. The Valentine tie in being the album that song was on is entitled Cupid and Psyche.
That was the best part of Val Day for me. Oh and the knowledge that my darling daughter was racking up quite a nice profit in cookies at school. Her "business" of choice? Un-matchmaking. That is right for the mere price of a cookie, Kidlet will dump your SO for you. Complete with comforting pat on the back. Her dad and I are not sure if we are proud or horrified. Actually we are both proud in a sick kinda way but we have to play act at the horror part ya know?
I have sucked at both posting and visiting this week and for that I apologize to my peeps. I am back at work after a week off and this DAMN cough is lingering. Kidlet and I have been getting home and damn near crashing at 6. How Golden Girls is that?! I have emails out the wazoo (painful!) and I totally skipped out on both WW and TT. Just didn't have the pep and spent what little I had on Idol.
Anyhow I will try to make the rounds better this week and, like, post and shit. This is probably a rambling post and not at all anything to be proud of, but I finally had to throw in the towel and take hardcore cough syrup. I didn't take any last night and I coughed my ass off all day. Had a charity auction meeting this morning and had to do the reflection and nearly burst a blood vessel trying not to cough.
It was a tough meeting as is. We recently lost a co-worker and a committee friend to mesothelioma. While we knew Ed was ill and have known since last May or so, I don't think anyone thought he would go so fast. He was a tremendous person who truly lived our mission. We will be dedicating this years auction to his memory. So my reflection was about not sweating the small stuff and embracing life. Fortunately our Chairwoman brought chocolate for the Holiday so we have sugar therapy.
On that note I should also mention that my grandfather is not doing so hot. Or doing hot depending on how you want to look at it. He is tired of waiting and pretty much wants to be done with the business of living. I truly think he is horrified he didn't have the good grace to die within 6 months of my grandmother. So there will be a trip to Utah in my future fairly soon and on short notice. It has been nice hanging out with him and taking care of him though.
Gramps and I have always been buds. Although our last meaningful competition was about my "sporting life" aka my dating or lack there of. Something about it being called "sporting" cracks me the hell up. He has quit eating at this time though, and he was pretty out of it last Saturday. Kidlet and I will be over there Sunday providing we are not heading to Utah. Gramps has had a good life and while I will miss him and our discussions on my love life, I know he is ready. And he did me one last good turn, he got mom to make that skordalia for my birthday =)
Sigh...generally your frozen entree's cook faster if you turn the oven on. Lord have mercy. It has been that kinda day!

Hey Natalie, Act Your Age, Mama, Not Your Shoe Size
Grammy stiffed Kanye again for Album of the Year. Again. For Herbie Fucking Hancock. No offence to Herbie but come ON. On the scale of pop cultural impact do we REALLY think Herbie had a bigger impact? Cause we all know that is really what the Grammy awards are about. The songs that resonated and offer up our annual zeitgeist. You have got to be kidding me.
Kanye's song for his mother made me and kidlet cry. Kidlet is also overjoyed that the real Beatles won. She does not have much love for Evan Rachel Wood due to the whole screeching scene in the video for Wake Me Up When September Ends. Can't say I blame her, it was annoying.
At least Amy Winehouse won big and delivered on her performance. Hopefully she is getting her shit together cause that girl is amazing. She looked stunned when she won Song and Record. I sure hope she gets it together.
On the subject of Amy, I must say, Natalie Cole has earned herself fucking bitter douchebag of the year award. And I quote:
“I'm going on record as an artist who is able to critique [Amy Winehouse]. I think she has a great talent, but I don't agree with the Grammy's giving her those nods. I think it sends the wrong message, that even in the midst of her stupor of drugs she can get nominated for all these awards. It's a slap in the face to musicians and artists who work very hard that they turn around and give it to someone who really obviously doesn't have a grasp of what she has. I've been in this business over 25 years and I sacrificed five years of my own life on drugs and almost lost my life because of it. So I take great offense to almost see someone getting glory out of being in the position that they're in – she needs to get her life together and embrace her craft, she will lose it if she doesn't get it together.”
- Natalie Cole
Yeah Natalie? What have you done lately? What's that? Shamelessly whored out your DAD'S hits in a sad bid to get your 1991 and 1996 Grammys? Written anything ORIGINAL lately Natalie? No? Still swingin on your dead daddy's jock? Yeah? Then shut the fuck up you low class ho. Guess we should all deliver a big old fuck you to Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and BILLIE FREAKING HOLIDAY as well too? How bout Ray Charles? Eh Natalie, you sanctimonious and bitter twat? Pissy cause when YOU were cracked out you didn't have enough talent to deliver? That Grammy for those unforgettable sloppy seconds indicate you can't bring it sober either. Waaaah.
Now then, having scraped the spoogewad that is Natalie Cole off my shoes, we move on. Sorry folks but that really pissed me off. Twat.
Does Prince age? Or is he frozen in time circa 1985 and just beams his image forward?
And The Time! Hell yes, I LOVE The Time. "Jerome, get me my mirror!"
Chili Sauce!
Tina Turner is a force of fucking nature. End of story. 68 years old and she still owns Proud Mary. And far more classy than Natalie Cole. Not that it would take much. Tina and Beyonce should tour. That would be fun to see.
Went back to work today and man that was a bitch. Still coughing my butt off and I can not take that cough syrup at work. I'll end up just sitting there staring a paperclip. It was tough though, I kept standing up to fast and getting way dizzy. Off to make tea and scronge for some sort of dessert.

Oh ROCH-ester!
Light em if you got em, today I join Jack Benny in the 39 club. Or as Matt put it the anniversary of my slide down the birth canal. Yeah.
Today I turn 39 folks. And I am gonna stay 39 like Jack Benny until I callously dump 39 in favor of 49. Like Madonna ;)
Still home sick which is typical I generally have horrid birthdays. Some of you may remember last year when Harley the cat tried to croak on me on my birthday. So coughing and still feeling like crap is par for the course. BUT....
I get steak and corn on the cob and cauliflower and Skordalia which is a thick garlic dip that is the win on steak. You end up with garlic breath that could drop a horse a twenty paces but hey, who cares?! A poppy seed cake and ice cream and presents round out the evening. Then kidlet and I will be home to watch tv and chill and then tomorrow I am taking care of Gramps after I take her back to her dads. We swapped days so I could have her for my birthday. And thank you all for the birthday wishes and shout outs and a special thanks to The Couch for my absinthe and lei filled birthday party. The masks were a good call and add that Warhol touch! Oh and for sending zee funny French card. Zoot Alors!

Turn Your Head And Cough - TT #38
In honor of this shiteous cold/strep that has assaulted kidlet and I I'm bringing you 13 things we HATE about being ill.
1. You sleep like crap and no matter how much you sleep you don't feel rested. (Kidlet)
2. This frickin cough. (Starr)
3. You can't laugh without hacking up a lung. (Kidlet)
4. Cause of the frickin cough. (Starr)
5. Food tastes bleh. Except my soup. (Starr)
6. Our Albuterol inhaler (the thing that works best for the frickin' cough) stings like battery acid. (Kidlet)
7. The way cough syrup tastes - like ass. (Starr)
8. You can't sleep breathing through your mouth (due to the hellacious sore throat), but the nose is also stuffed as well. (Kidlet)
9. Have I mentioned the frickin cough? (Starr)
10. The sore nose from blowing it constantly. (Both of us. We look like Rudolph)
11. My mother nagging me to drink more water causing me to get up more in the night than an old man with a prostate problem. (Kidlet)
12. Not having the energy to goose rude children who type things like #11. (Starr)
13. Going Stir Crazy. Help! Help! Let us out of this nutshell! (The Typhoid Twins)
Over and out!

If I Strep For You Will You Strep For Me?
It's official. Kidlet has strep throat. I tested negative for strep but my doc thinks that is not likely to last. She thinks I have a nasty bronchitis or maybe walking pneumonia. Have a 100+ temp and I feel like I have two bags of wet sand instead of lungs.
Either way both kidlet and I are on antibiotics and I am on a lovely codeine cough syrup cause I am coughing so hard it nearly makes me puke. We are both home tomorrow and I am keeping her tonight so we don't infect her dad and his girlfriend. If that happens we are all just going to keep swapping this crap around.
It was a LONG afternoon though. Took off at 1pm and got home at 6:30. I stopped off at the store and bought some leeks, potatoes and some good white Irish cheddar cheese and a loaf of french bread. Making a nice thick soup to have the next couple of days. No beer though cause no one wants to add yeast to a system on antibiotics. That and some Toll House cookies. The cheater kind that you just put on the pan and have at it cause I am not stupid enough to try to be all Betty Crocker when I am this sick.
Just had the soup and it was D-VINE. Now we are going to lay on the couch and relax. Side note, this cough syrup is obviously not the same codeine kind they give kids cause it has me highly stoned. And I don't get stoned all that easy.
Ooohh...look at the pretty colors!

Come On Get Down With The Sickness
Waiting for the doctors office to open today and then both kidlet and I are going in. Her throat started getting more sore yesterday and I am in bad shape. It seems like we get a day where it feels like we might be getting over it and then boom it hits again. Either way this has been going on way too long and the cough is killing me.

Silence Of The Jay
Ok this is from Clerks 2. Which should indicate that it is NSFW and will definitely offend those who are put off by the infamous F word.
If, however, F Bombs don't phase you AND you are familiar with Jame Gumb from Silence Of The Lambs, this will kill ya.
It's a toss up which is funnier, this or Pillowpants.

Does She Walk? Does She Talk? Does She Come Complete?
Ok this cold, virus, whatever the fuck it is really sucks. I am losing my voice from coughing. And it is a perfectly pointless cough. Every time I do cough, my head pounds. This is beyond fucking annoying.
Ok done whining for now. Kidlet still has a cough but she seems much better tonight. Better me than her as far as the sick goes.
So work dramz. My boss has changed her mind on the no overtime. Too little too late. Jan report went out today. 60% of my groups hit target. Which normally would have me freaking the hell out but I think I have let go of my perfection complex on that as well.
More work stuff, I get to be involved with a project totally outside of my "scope of task" with two of my favorite people. I am quite tickled by it.
Kidlet and I are drinking hot tea with lemon and honey. Last night I got hit with the chills. I was shaking so hard I spilled my advil and my teeth were chattering. Harley the cat sat on the back of the sofa patting my face with this paw. The chattering jaw freaked him out.
Alrighty I am off to soak in a hot tub. Got that cold to the bone feeling again and I don't want to traumatize the cat. Superbowl will be spent at Moms watching it with the Gramps. Go Big Blue!
