When You Only Got 100 Years To Live

Slacker post. Back from the doctor. Released to go back to work next Wednesday. Let's hope I am eating by then. I feel better, I just have no appetite and still get nauseated very easily and any "real" food makes me feel ill. So for now, it is still tea, broth, and yogurt if I am feeling jiggy.

Equally as whitebread as my diet is this post. Some of you have seen these ones going around. Bond and I are sympatico with our Marquezness =)

You're One Hundred Years of Solitude!

by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Lonely and struggling, you've been around for a very long time.
Conflict has filled most of your life and torn apart nearly everyone you know. Yet there
is something majestic and even epic about your presence in the world. You love life all
the more for having seen its decimation. After all, it takes a village.

Take the Book Quiz
at the Blue Pyramid.

Interesting but I am not really lonely. I mean I have my moments, but generally I am a misanthrope and really would be MOST unhappy to be surrounded by people. It makes me cranky. Hell I make myself cranky sometimes, so lonely I ain't!

You Are the Very Gay Tinky Winky!

Purple with a gay pride symbol... how could he not be gay?

And that red purse is divalicious!

I wonder if I could get a hot date with Sen. Craig now?

Your Candy Heart Says "Get Real"

You're a bit of a cynic when it comes to love.
You don't lose your head, and hardly anyone penetrates your heart.

Your ideal Valentine's Day date: is all about the person you're seeing (with no mentions of v-day!)

Your flirting style: honest and even slightly sarcastic

What turns you off: romantic expectations and "greeting card" holidays

Why you're hot: you don't just play hard to get - you are hard to get

And it only took me until 35 to figure that out! I gotta admit I was expecting "Bite Me."

Your Inner European is Italian!

Passionate and colorful.
You show the world what culture really is.

Ciao Bella!

You Scored 90% Correct

You are an 80s expert
You never confuse New Order with the Pet Shop Boys
You know which classical musician Falco rocked
When it comes to 80s music, you Just Can't Get Enough!

Who would confuse New Order with Pet Shop Boys?! Although a bit o' trivia. There is a band comprised of a New Order member, A Smith's member and has Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys as a guest singer on one of their biggest hits. And I have used a lyric for a blog post. Link back to anyone who gets it!

Thursday Thirteen 27 - Fly High Free Bird

Musical Quotes Part Deux!! I had fun doing the first part of this and will probably revisit the theme again soon. This weeks version is a bit lighter than the last. Happy TT!

I've said that playing the blues is like having to be black twice. Stevie Ray Vaughan missed on both counts, but I never noticed. -B. B. King

You see, we are here, as far as I can tell, to help each other; our brothers, our sisters, our friends, our enemies. That is to help each other and not hurt each other. - Stevie Ray Vaughan

To me, there's nothing freer than a bird, you know, just flying wherever he wants to go. And, I don't know, that's what this country is all about, being free. I think everyone wants to be a free bird. - Ronnie Van Zant - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Just rock on, and have you a good time. - Duane Allman - The Allman Brothers

I been in the blues all my life. I'm still delivering 'cause I got a long memory. -
Muddy Waters

Death makes angels of us all and gives us wings where we had shoulders smooth as ravens claws. - Jim Morrison - The Doors

I've always been into guitars... we want to put keyboards on, but keyboard players don't look cool onstage, they just keep their heads down. There has never been a cool keyboard player, apart from Elton John. - Noel Gallagher - Oasis

Well, I was making a record, and I had to choose a name, because they said, you know, you can't make a record under the name of Reg Dwight, because it's never going to - you know, it's not attractive enough. - Elton John

I'm a big woman. I need big hair. - Aretha Franklin

What makes the most money for this business? Dead rock stars. - Courtney Love

Every time I see Bono in those big fly glasses and tight leather pants I just can't hack it. I can't see that as solving the world's problems. He's crushing his testicles in tight trousers for world peace. - John "Johnny Rotten" Lydon

Mozart was a punk, which people seem to forget. He was a naughty, naughty boy. - Shirley Manson

I pay no attention whatever to anybody's praise or blame. I simply follow my own feelings. - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans? Wordless Wednesday 28

A not so wordless Wordless Wednesday for you.

In the beginning there were a lot of words, most of them hollow. 2 years later there is an odd silence on the subject. How many people not living in the Gulf Region and New Orleans in particular think about the progress or lack there of? Do you?

I was home sick when Katrina hit and I watched the CNN nearly 24/7 for the first week. I have never, in my life, been so embarrassed and horrified by my government. I have never in my life been so enraged at the politicians who have not forgotten the mantra of "the government of the people, for the people and by the people" - they merely hold themselves above those standards.

They call it "executive privilege." I call it bullshit. I can honestly say that had that plane carrying Bush to NOLA gone down I would have been drinkin and dancing in the streets. If that makes me un American and pisses you off, fine and dandy and deal with it in that order.

Today, on the 2nd anniversary of Katrina I bring you clips from people in NOLA and the Gulf coast. Most use clips from Spike Lee's When The Levees Broke - A Requiem In 4 Acts. Say what you will about Spike's politcal agenda, which for the record I do not always agree with, this is Katrina through the eyes of those who lived - and didn't - through her.

The population of New Orleans remains 40% less than pre-Katrina. There are people there who are still STILL waiting for a FEMA trailer, or God helps us, power and water to the ones they have. This is not Louisiana's tragedy. Or Mississippi's or Alabama's. This is my tragedy and your tragedy as well. This is America. The richest and most powerful country on the planet. And this is the best that we could do? Is this how we built America? This is not what I think of when I think of America, land of opportunity.

A video montage using clips from Levees from Youtube. Note - there is some very difficult footage in this clip.

How can American Citizens be refugees?

Fuck you, indeed, Mr. Cheney. And Bless You, Ben Marble MD. I would love to buy this man a beer.

Longer segement from Levees.

The Lower 9th Ward. One year later. YEAR, not month.

The Lower 9th Ward as of June 2007 - nearly 2 years later. This is a fabulous piece I highly recommend. One artists video slide show following one street from the lower to the upper 9th ward for 60 blocks. Her narration of her time in New Orleans and her quest for a mailbox is poetic. Yes, a mailbox.

Shelton Shakespeare Alexander Poem for New Orleans.

In addition, please head on over to the couch and read a post from our good friend Bond on the sad state of FEMA.

Thanks for the reminder Bond!

Bleh

Thanks for the well wishes folks. I think we can let Matt off the hook, it's a long story Desert. I had to head to my grandfathers on Saturday as he was totally ill with some gastro crap. Both ends if you get my drift and he is 87. I got there, they had signs up that "some" of their people had a gastro bug. Some = 20 not including Gramps. His room was digusting. I knew I was going to get it.

Ended up spending 5 hours in the ER yesterday cause throwing up blood is not fun. I was badly dehydrated. Got 2 units of IV fluids, hard core anti nausea drugs and morphine for the pain. They are ruling out a bunch of fun stuff. Norwalk (the cruise ship virus) salmonella, ecoli and other crap. The county health department is all over his assisted living like a wet rag. I am still sick today. Minute those anti nausea pills wear off, I am feeling it.

Hope everyone is well and I will try to get back soon.

Sunday Sermon - Armageddon Days Are Here (Again)

Are you ready Jesus?
-Uh Huh

Budda?
-Yeah

Mohammad?
-Ok

Well alright then, let's go!

They're 5 miles high
As the crow flies
Leavin' vapour trails
Across a blood red sky
Movin' in from the East
Towards the West
With balaclava helmets
Over their heads
YES!

But if you think that Jesus Christ is coming
Honey, you've got another thing coming
If he ever finds out who's hijacked his name
He'll cut out his heart and turn in his grave

Islam is rising
The Christians mobilising
The world is on it's elbows and knees
It's forgotten the message
And worships the creeds

"It's War" she cried
"It's War" she cried
"This is War!"
Drop your possessions
All you simple folk
You will fight them on the beaches
in your underclothes
You will thank the good lord
For raising the Union Jack
You'll watch the ships sail out of harbour
And the bodies come floating back
Watch the ships sail out of harbour
And the bodies come floating back

If the real Jesus Christ were to stand up today
He'd be gunned down cold by the C.I.A.
Oh, the lights that now burn brightest
Behind stained glass
Will cast the darkest shadows
Upon the human heart
But God didn't build himself that throne
God doesn't live in Israel or Rome
God doesn't belong to the Yankee dollar
God doesn't plant the bombs for Hezbollah
God doesn't even go to church
And God won't send us down to Allah to burn
God will remind us what we already know
That the human race is about to reap what it's sown

Islam is rising
The Christians mobilising
The world is on it's elbows and knees
It's forgotten the message
And worships the creeds
The world is on it's elbows and knees
It's forgotten the message
And worships the creeds

Armageddon days are here again
Armageddon days are here again
Armageddon days are here again
Armageddon Days Are HERE!!!

Amen Mr. Johnson. The human race exhausts me.

Take A Walk On The Wild Side

Christopher at Ziva is the King of All Hair Colors and Cuts. And my kid is gorgeous. She went with a gorgeous shade of ruby red. And an awesome cut!

I Like Having A Detachable Penis

It was a bad week for members everywhere. Frankly after seeing the following headlines and subsequent stories, if *I* had a penis I would wish it were detachable too. I'd be putting it in a safety deposit box. There is a bad moon on the rise and it has it's eye on penii of the world.

(Note to RWA - Nope I don't think "penii" is in the dictionary either. Like "pubtastic" it falls under the category of Starr fauxcabulary!)

British dwarf's penis gets stuck to hoover
Mon Aug 20, 3:50 PM ET
EDINBURGH (AFP) - A dwarf performer at the Edinburgh fringe festival had to be rushed to hospital after his penis got stuck to a vacuum cleaner during an act that went horribly awry.

Daniel Blackner, or "Captain Dan the Demon Dwarf", was due to perform at the Circus of Horrors at the festival known for its oddball, offbeat performances. The main part of his act saw him appear on stage with a vacuum cleaner attached to his member through a special attachment.

The attachment broke before the performance and Blackner tried to fix it using extra-strong glue, but unfortunately only let it dry for 20 seconds instead of the 20 minutes required. He then joined it directly to his organ. The end result? A solid attachment, laughter, mortification and ... hospitalisation.

"It was the most embarrassing moment of my life when I got wheeled into a packed AE with a vacuum attached to me," Blackner said. "I just wished the ground could swallow me up. Luckily, they saw me quickly so the embarrassment was short-lived."

Talk about the blow job from hell!

This next one is a true "WTF?!?!" moment.

Russian woman sets fire to ex-husband's penis
MOSCOW (Reuters) - A woman set fire to her ex-husband's penis as he sat naked watching television and drinking vodka, Moscow police said on Wednesday.

Asked if the man would make a full recovery, a police spokeswoman said it was "difficult to predict".

The attack climaxed three years of acrimonious enforced co-habitation. The couple divorced three years ago but continued to share a small flat, something common in Russia where property costs are very high.

"It was monstrously painful," the wounded ex-husband told Tvoi Den newspaper. "I was burning like a torch. I don't know what I did to deserve this."

If there was ever proof that communism was a botched experiment there you have it. Any system that leaves a country so screwed a good 10 years after it's demise that ex's have to co-habitat is truly and completely a failure.

Appointments right and left today. About to wake up Kidlet for her hair appointment. She is seeing Christopher at Ziva salon today for a cut and some kinds of color. Possible blue streaks instead of pink or possible all over auburn while she grows it out. I am just there to write the check =)

Then we have school shopping, cat issues, and guitar lessons. This is what I call a "day off" in my world. Um, yeah.

At least it is sunny. I know it has to be hard for you all to believe what with the rest of the country baking and all, but July and August have been SHITTY here in the PAC NW. More rainy than usual by a long shot and many many many MANY totally gray days with temps barely hitting high 60's. What the fuck?! I live in shit gray weather from Mid October to May. That sucks bad enough without having July and August look like frickin November. My canna lily has yet to bloom and it is nearly September! Oh and I like humidity. So spare me the at least you are lucky blah blah blah. Up and down temps/barometric pressure plays havoc with my arthritis :P

Grr.

Ok got more coffee.

Tiny (hah) child is stirring. More like glaring at me from the confines of her comforter which she has wrapped herself in like a burrito. I am trying to drag her ass out of bed in time to make it to Kornblatts for bagels. We shall see. Although I need to get my ass in gear as well.

With that, I bid you all adieu!

Thursday Thirteen 26 -She Seen That I Was Busy Doing Something Close To Nothing

I was thinking of doing Musical Quotes part deux and I probably will, just not this week cause I am laaaaaaazzzzzy. So here are random thoughts I have had in the last 24 hours.

Holy Shit! There really was a Chinese philosopher named Wang Ch'ung! Wonder if he hung out in dance halls?

I think Heylia on Weeds is a douche bag.

The Nixon administration were asshats for Watergate for sure. For their treatment of John Lennon they should have been strung up by their pubes.

But Yoko really does sound like a cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

I had forgotten just how warped and funny (in a sick way, yeah yeah yeah) American Psycho is.

I am starting to fear that I am addicted to Sugar Free Non Fat Caramel Lattes.

I adore Anthony Bourdain. Now he has a blog and does recaps on each weeks Top Chef. They are better than the show itself!

The poor guy who made the Taj Mahal was imprisoned by his own son for the final years of his life for spending so much on the monument to his wife. That kid needed a time out.

If I could go on a vacation RIGHT NOW, I would go here:

Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but I like these better

I have had Raspberry Beret by Prince stuck in my head all week.

Drivers who refuse to do 45 in a 45 mile an hour speed zone need to have their pubic hair plucked with a set of pliers. Move or die, idiots.

I am counting down the days until the 2007 Greek Festival in October so I can get these!

You Could Be My Lucky Starr

There is a new meme in town, Heads or Tails coming to the blogosphere courtesy of Skittles. This weeks theme is LUCK!

Now I think we all know I was Hitler in another life. Luck and Starr are not BFF's. No sir. It is more the piddley little Murphy's Law kinda of bad luck, knock wood. There have been a few times I did get lucky. Nudge nudge wink wink ;)

First and foremost, I am lucky to have the kidlet I have. That child is stellar. She is smart, funny and has a big heart. And a snarky wit. What more could a mother ask for?

Oh and in the last 2 years I have won two raffles. One for a DVD/VCR combo and my precious baby Starbuck's Barista 12 cup coffee maker.

And with that, I have pretty much shot the wad. Don't get me started on men cause luck is gonna start circling the drain!

Head on over and check out Skittle's and check out the other Heads or Tails folks!

In keeping with the whole Meme vibe, Tiggerprr has tagged me for the 50K question. Which, given my less than stellar luck, we know I won't get via the lottery!

A philanthropist awards you $50,000 with the stipulation that you may use half of it for yourself and the other half you must use for the benefit of others. By “benefit of others” it can mean anything really, buying a gift for a family member or donating to a charity.

A. How do you spend the money on yourself?

ROFL! Me? Spend money on myself? You are kidding right? They only thing I buy myself are books and music. Now if I were to have 25k I would have to do something more than wipe out Everyday Records. I would pay off all my bills and then, hold yourselves this is really exciting, go on a trip for a month somewhere super warm and then I'd put the rest in savings.

B. How do you use the money for others? Please be detailed, so if you say “give X dollars to charity, let us know what charity and why you select that one.

25 K would be split between New Orleans Habitat for Humanity and The Global Fund. Both of whom I donate to on a regular basis. I try to give $10 bucks of each paycheck to the Global Fund, Habitat, and Darfur refugee charities on a rotating basis. My dream job would be working for Habitat, One.org, or somewhere in Africa where I could actually be useful.

C. If you were to spend part of your money to have a performer do a show for you, who would it be and why?

Fuh Duh....U2. And then I would beg Bono to get me a job at One =)

D. If you were to use it on a new vehicle for yourself, what kind?

Ok 25K is not enough for me to blow it all on a car. So it would just be an new Corolla.

E. If you spent part of it to go to a “fantasy” camp, what type would you choose?

Rock Camp! Other than that, I am with Tigg on the beach somewhere =)

F. If you were to use it to buy season tickets for a sports team, what team would it be?

The Falcons. God knows it would be an interesting season!

G. If you were to use it to go on a cruise (assuming you like cruises) where would you cruise to?

One of those 180 day full on South American, Caribbean cruises. A LOOOOOOONG Cruise.

H. If you were to use it to go to NYC to see a show (or shows) what would you see?

Wicked for sure!

I. Totally off subject (but since Fall is coming) what is your favorite carnival food (I was watching “Big” while writing this and saw them at the carnival)?

It's a tie between caramel apples and elephant ears.

Whew!

Now for Tags, I choose anyone who is interested in participating. Holla and I will post a link to your answers!

As a postscript, I found this over at Trav's and had to go there!

The Roof, The Roof, The Roof Is On Fire

First off, you really must see Superbad. Well providing you do not have a stick lodged in your ass and won't freak out over blow job jokes. This movie was so funny, I very nearly needed Depends. We went to the 7:45 show and Kidlet demanded that we get there early which was a good things since the line to get into it started at 6:45. We were second in line behind a group of teenager metrosexual walking erections. Kinda perfect for the movie, actually. Well except the characters are in no way metrosexual. Except McLovin and his vest.

The movie 100% lived up to the Internet and media hype. And to think they wrote this script when they were 13?!! This is a classic in the American Pie/Porky's tradition but personally I thought it kicked the ass of both of those.

I have to go to the mall again. Skinny beyotch Kidlet (that is a love name...God help me if Kyra's helpful friend were to presume to give me shit about my parenting skillz :P) bought size 6's when we went last weekend. Problem being 6's fit when they are brand new/right out of the dryer. 1 hour later and she is doing the old fart hitching up her pants routine and looks incredibly Short Bus. So those have got to go. Size 4 here we come.

Then it is Fred Meyer time for school supplies and groceries. I am pondering cooking today. Greek dish called Stifado. Pretty much a meat and onion stew that we toss green beans in with. Either that or the classic greek chicken dish Kapama. That is chicken marinaded in lemon and cinnamon and then braised and served with spaghetti with brown butter and greek cheese. Damn...now I am hungry!

What Else Should I Be, All Apologies

The fabulous Travis posed a great question on the comments for this weeks Thursday Thirteen. Coming as it does on the anniversary of the death of Elvis, I really feel I must share it on a post and throw open the door to your thoughts.

Travis commented, "I love this 13. And it sparks a question that has been asked and debated many times.

Is an artist obligated to care for and nurture his talent, and to share it, and to care for himself so that the talent is not lost before it can be fully explored and perfected?

Jimi's quote suggests that he considered the talent his own to do with as he chose.

Thoughts?"

My take? We eat our idols alive.

We demand what we want from them with little or no regard to the fact that they are sharing a gift with us that we have no right to demand. We deny our idols, be they musicians or actors or artists, the right to have and express opinions outside their chosen medium, and God forbid they try something new.

To a certain degree, with Janis, Billie, Jimi, Kurt, Lennon, Morrison, Elvis and so many others, we - their adoring fans and vicious detractors alike - may not have pulled the trigger...but we helped buy the bullets.

Thursday Thirteen #25 - What Are Words For?

This week we are going to take a peek at quotes from some of my favorite musicians. Some are funny, some are sad. All of them offer insight into the artist.

1. "You've got to have something to eat and a little love in your life before you can hold still for any damn body's sermon on how to behave." Billie Holiday

2. "To be one, to be united is a great thing. But to respect the right to be different is maybe even greater." Bono - U2

3. "I'm always amazed that people take what I say seriously. I don't even take what I am seriously." David Bowie aka Ziggy Stardust, Thin White Duke, Aladdin Sane

4. "Thank you for leaving us alone but giving us enough attention to boost our egos." Mick Jagger - The Rolling Stones

5. "I never wanted to be famous. I only wanted to be great." Ray Charles

6. "Sometimes I am two people. Johnny is the nice one. Cash causes all the trouble. They fight." Johnny Cash

7. "I'm the one that has to die when it's time for me to die, so let me live my life, the way I want to. " Jimi Hendrix

8. "Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

9. "I won't be a rock star. I will be a legend." Freddie Mercury - Queen

10. "My only weapon is the songs. That's my only kind of way to express where I'm at." Van Morrison

11. "I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." Kurt Cobain - Nirvana

12. "Onstage I make love to 25,000 people, then I go home alone." Janis Joplin

13. "I sort of enjoy the fact that I'm misunderstood most of the time. That's fine." Billie Joe Armstrong - Green Day

Just Jack

I'm a virgin!

What? Quit snickering! Jesus, rude people. Seriously, I am. At least in terms of my Jack Factorness. I was the very first review on Jack's new blog. And seeing as how he asked to marry me and/or get blasted and party with me, I'd say the boy has good taste!

He has completely valid points on my sidebars and if I could only clone myself I'd figure out a way to make scrolling content boxes for the sidebar content. It's that or I am lazy :P

Aesthetics aside, Jack gave me a thumbs up on my content which is where I live and breathe. And I didn't even pay him!

So check out the review of my blog and get some balls and ask to be reviewed. Matt..he'd LOVE you =)

I See A Bad Moon A Rising

Kidlet and I saw Skinwalkers aka Werewolves last night. Not so much Skinwalkers from the Native American point of view. More like, "Hey they are similar in nature but Skinwalker sounds fresher than Werewolf! Let's use it!"

It was pretty cheesetastic. But heck it was bargain hour and Kidlet and I LOVE bad horror so we had a good time. It was actually so cheesy in spots that Kidlet and I burst out laughing in the theater. Big huge gun battle (with a cool gun toting granny who stole the show) in which NONE of these fucking wolfs could hit the broad side of a barn. Oh and the scene where the badasses roll into town on their Harley's....in slow mo...we bust out laughing. Only other people in the theater were two bimbo teens who looked totally lost and a scary older fat guy. I told Kidlet he was gonna head to 7-11 after the movie to get Nacho's and a Code Red before heading home to play Worlds of Warcraft and then jack off to Sailor Moon Porn. She shot coke out her nose. It was teh win.

We had to rename all the bad guys. Bob Gnarly was the evil rasta wolf dude, and the chick in wolf form kinda looked like Marilyn Manson, Cher and the ugly kid in Hanson. So she became Cherilyn Hanson. The chief bad guy was Woofio as he was the werewolf equivalent of Fabio. From a MST3000 point of view, it was not bad.

Today I have to go to...dun dun duuunnnnn....the mall. Pray for me people. I hate humanity on a good day and the mall brings out ALL my misanthropic tendencies. But I need to put clothing on Kidlet and I need a decent pair of walking shoes as I have been a good girl and gone back to the treadmill. 30 minutes a day but I get horrible shin splints with the wrong shoes. Stretching before hand does not help. I have a pair of dansko sandals that are the only shoes that don't leave me in pain. Odd I know.

FOAMY! The Official Website is Here.

With The Twenty Four Hour Party People

Tony Wilson Dies At 57. This bummed me out. Tony was only 57. Again this is a tangent that I am pretty sure I will be losing most of you on as I don't think there are a lot of Happy Monday/glow stick wavers/Madchester fans in my audience. Except perhaps, the Brits ;)

Tony founded Factory records in the late 70's and opened the popular (and infamous) Hacienda Club both of which were instrumental in creating the entire Madchester sound and scene which in turn influenced the later Baggy and Britpop (hello Blur and Oasis.) Not to mention the entire Rave scene and the birth of the DJ as a star rather than merely an instrument. And for giving us Joy Division and New Order, Tony is owed a huge thanks. Not to mention he was bitingly amusing as only the English can be. Sorry folks, they OWN us when it comes to irony and sarcasm.

For those of you who are familiar with the sounds of Manchester in the 80's and 90's click on the picture of Tony above for a highly entertaining interview from the 80's and definitely check out the movie 24 Hour Party People.

I Ain't Saying You A Gold Digger

Reason enough to buy Kanye's Album on Sept 11.

What's the matter Curtis? Worried about the new disc and trying to stir up a little controversy? What happened? Run out of lyric from Skywalker you could borrow?

I like Kanye West. I wish Fiddy had been an inch or two to the left when he got shot. Then I wouldn't have to listen to the crap he puts forth.

Keepin' it real.

Brother Can You Spare A Dime?

***Warning***

This is not an easy story to read and I am including pictures that are NOT easy to look at, especially for those who love pets. I read about this poor dog last week in the AJC and felt compelled to donated to help this poor animal. This afternoon I just received my sponsorship certificate and an update on Sparky. I am so glad I donated to help Sparky, especially in light of poor Maxine's death. Pet's depend on their humans and sometimes we fail them, and other times the humans in question should be shot. I am pretty sure most of you will agree with this.

Sparky is a 1 year old, 28 pound Terrier mix. He's cute as a button, and very sweet, which makes it all the harder to believe that a "human" would intentionally inflict such horrific injuries on a helpless dog. Sparky was tied to the bumper of a car by his leash and dragged behind the vehicle on July 26th. He survived when his head slipped out of the collar, and he was quickly picked up by passers by who took him to Animal Control. This is the second dog we've had with these types of injuries, and from the same county. (The first incident was in January 2007, involving our Winston who can be seen on the Toy Dog Page.)

Sparky was taken to a veterinary clinic where he received immediate attention for his massive abrasions, many to the level of bone or muscle. The pads on all four feet are gone, as are the toenails and the tops of his feet, and extending up his forelegs. All four are bandaged, and will need to be changed twice a week and his wounds cleaned. Fortunately, Sparky will be under anesthesia so he won't feel the pain. He has staples holding the skin over some areas where he has open wounds, but where the skin is gone, he's exposed to the elements. Most of his wounds are weeping and infected. He's been given a pain patch to help manage his horrific pain at this time, and he's taking lots of antibiotics to try to get the infection under control.

The doctors at Paces Ferry Veterinary Clinic have taken over Sparky's care for now. The staff cannot believe that he is able to walk and show interest in the world in his condition.

Sparky will probably need skin grafts once the infection is under control, but for now, he is living on the line, happy to be alive, but flirting with death because of the great risk of infection overtaking him.

Sparky will need months to heal, and the estimates for his overall medical care are in the $6,000-$8,000 range. We have created a "Sparky's Fund" to pay for medical care for dogs with extraordinary illnesses or injuries. If you'd like to contribute, please click
HERE.

You will need to enter Sparky's name as your pet of choice to sponsor and Atlanta Pet Rescue does except paypal. Sparky will need skin grafts, providing he survives the initial healing phase. Every penny counts, even 5 bucks. It all adds up to giving this poor dog a fighting chance and keeping places like Atlanta Pet Rescue open.

Thursday Thirteen 24 - Girls On Film (Two Minutes Later)

There are a surprising number of good movies that are coming out that I am looking forward to. Y'all got a preview with my lastest WW but something tells me the ladies will not mind if I repeat myself ;)

Death At A Funeral - I am a SUCKER for the British comedy. I love them. I am a self admitted Anglophile. The only thing this one looks like it is missing is Hugh Grant. I love Hugh Grant...

Control - This is a niche movie and probably will have most of you scratching your heads, but Kidlet and I are so looking forward to this. Ian Curtis was the lead singer of the band Joy Division in the late 70's until he commited suicide in May of 1980. Joy Division is best known for the song Love Will Tear Us Apart and for the re-emergence of the remaining band members as New Order. Joy Division are arguably the font of what is called modern Goth music with actually being Goth themselves. Ian wrote the script that Kurt would later follow.

Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten - What is there to say about Citizen Strummer. The Clash have been called "The Only Band That Matters" and Joe Strummer was the heart and soul of the band. A monumentally talented and intelligent man, Joe was a true iconoclast. For Clash fans I can not strongly recommend enough Joe's later work with The Mescaleros. This movie is by Julien Temple who has a feel and a love for the Punk Genre as witnessed by the Great Rock and Roll Swindle and The Filth and The Fury. The list of people talking about the life and the influence is a huge range from John Cusack to Bono to Johnny Depp.

Becoming Jane- Why not? I mean it is pretty clear that Jane Austin is proven cinematic gold so it was only a matter of time before we had a movie about Janie Poo. It is loosely based on a romance from her youth. It should be interesting as Jane never married and died at 41.

Rob Zombie's Halloween - OH HELL'S YES! This has me SO excited. Rob Zombie could do just to this series. Rather than just reworking the original 70's classic, Rob has expanded the back story of Michael Myers and let me tell you the kid who plays him scares the shit out of me already.

Charlie Bartlett- This lookys quirky. I love quirky. I live quirky. I...nevermind. In addition to the quirk factor this movie has Robert Downey Jr. I am a child of the 80's, people. I love me some Robert Downey. I could give a flying fuck about his personal drama's, this guy can act. On that note, if you have not seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang you need to get the hell off of my blog and go rent that now. NOW. Do it. Don't make me hurt you.

The Golden Age- OH JOY Elizabeth part 2!! Cate Blanchett just IS Elizabeth. So excited for this. The Plantagenants and The Tudors are my favorite periods of English history. Well Normans too. No offence but shit went down hill with the Stuarts and The Hanovers. Bleh :P

Darjeeling Limited- See what I said above about quirky. Wes Anderson (Rushmore, Life Aquatic) is the Crown Prince of Quirk. Tim Burton is still King ;)

Superbad- Yes this is a gross out humor movie. Sue me, I like slasher flicks, gross out potty humor, and cheesey martial arts movies. Give me shit and I will be forced to roll out the entire list of ruling kings and queens of England from memory :P

The Last Legion - More historical stuffies! We have a long way to go to make up from Troy and Alexander. Oh and Colin Firth. Oh yes.

Sweeney Todd- Oh look. It's Johnny Depp again. Seriously I am so excited about this. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp bringing us the murderous barber from Fleet Street. I can not wait!

The Nanny Diaries- This was a great book. Totally guilty pleasure mind candy. I love Scarlett Jo so I am hoping this is a good as Prada was.

War Jet Li and Jason Stratham? Hell yes! Martial arts and testoterone overdoes are fun.

In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed

I have been tagged by Bundle O' Contradictions for the middle name meme which is really pretty cool. Lot of work though cause my middle name is loooooong. And I have to tag someone for every letter. That means 9 of you are gonna get the taggy lovin's :P

Before I start just want to say thank you to all of you for your condolences on poor Maxy the Beagle. I will pass on all of your hugs and good wishes to Kidlet when she gets home.

Now then, on to the meme. Here be the rules!
Here are the rules:
1. You have to post these rules before you give the facts.
2. Players, you must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of their middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had.
3. When you are tagged you need to write your own blog post containing your own middle name game facts.
4. At the end of your blog post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

The Middle Name Meme

E - Eccentric. That would be me. I'm an Aquarius, I was born weird.

L - Location Location Location....I think most of you know I am not in my
favorite. I am down to 5 years and 10 months before I can move. Tick Tock.

I - Intelligence. Pretty much my entire life, my intellect has been my calling card or trademark. Yeah I'm smart, cure cancer, blah blah blah. Which is fine I suppose but ya know, no one ever asks super smart kids if they really want to be all that they can be. It is just expected. Except for me. Poster child for not living up to expectations.

Z - Zippy. I am addicted to caffeine. Hardcore. I can be highly
zippy. Meep Meep!

A - I love The Allman Brothers Band. And they happen to be the band behind today's post title. Not lyrics as the song is an instrumental. Dicky Betts wrote the song and named it after a headstone he saw at Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon Georgia. It is fitting then, that both Duane Allman and Barry Oakley are buried side by side in Rose Hill.

B - I Love The Nightlife I Got to Boogie....I love to dance. I
missing going out and dancing more than my once and former single life and
all the kamikaze's that went with it.

E - My all time favorite breakfast food hands down, gimme a fork and back up is Eggs Benedict. Oh so yum. I could swim in a vat of good hollindaise.

T - Thursday is my favorite day of the week. I could not tell you why, it has just always been my favorite day.

H - I would far rather be Hot than cold. I hate cold. Cold sucks. Just one more reason to move my ass to The South asap!

Now then...here comes the taggles people. And I must own up to the it being all my fault on the length of the middle name. See mom never gave me a middle name. She had issues picking a first name. They pretty much told her before check out, "Hey lady! Pick a frickin name!" So when I was 10 I trundled myself off to the department of vital stats in Salt Lake (well the grandparents drove) and added my own middle name. So here we go.

Bond!
Sparky!
Matt (what yo middle name) Man!
Songbird!
Anndi!
Mo!
Travis!
Kyra at the 108th!
RWA (cause I wanna know if those are your initials :P)

Whew.

Well this fucking sucks

My daughter just called and her beagle Maxine was hit by a car and they just put her to sleep. Kidlet is heartbroken.

Que Sera, Sera

"Corn Nuts!"

So uttered Heather Chandler whilst clutching her throat seconds before her death in Heathers. How can I not love corn nuts when obviously they are the font of all final wisdom? Plus, they are tasty!

Do you know what pisses me off? Cheap ass rinky dink sex toys. When a pinata is tougher than your vibrator, you are dealing with sub par "novelty toys." (Side note, I know Bond is not shocked by this commentary :P)

Did ya miss me?

Lord what a month. I am officially done with the hell time of year at my job. The fact that it runs Jan - July is the pits though. I mean I will still be working Overtime but not nearly as much. I don't think I have worked less than 10 hours each day for over a week. Went in early today and home early as I am supposed to have Comcast come back out to deal with a funky error I get with my On Demand. Sure seems like they have had issues, but at least the customer services has been good. And Arturo the computer guy from last weekend totally fixed my wireless issues. New router and modem and redid the wireless and so far so good. Next up, Mr. Washing Machine Repair Man! Oh joy. More butt crack :P

Kidlet is off on her camping trip with her dad, his GF, her family, and the other children. Her dad knows to keep an eye on her and not let her hang unattended with the Columbine Twins or swim without a life jacket. Or kill her by driving like an ass. Cause then I'd have to kill him myself and jail would just suck, ya know? And I bet they don't let you have adult "novelty toys" sub par or otherwise.

I am suffering huge guilt due to my lack of cd rippaged. I have barely made a dent in it. Yikes. On a related note, I made myself a nice little mix cd last night. I finally got the Corrs cd with the Andrea/Bono duet of "When The Stars Go Blue" which I totally absolutely adore. Again it is musically weird combo wise but I think there is a certain vibe running through all of these songs. No, that was not a sex toy comment :P

When The Stars Go Blue - The Corrs Featuring Bono

(Big thanks to the unshockable Bond for showing me how to use this handy audio uploader!)

Who here hates Ventriloquist dummies? *raises hand and waves it frantically*

I LOATHE them. I blame the movie Magic. That movie gave me recurring nightmares that I still have to this day and a huge phobia about Charlie McCarthy Poor Candance. I'd have died. So the movie Dead Silence should have scared the bejebus out of me. Unfortunately it was lacking. Don't get me wrong, those frickin dolls were awful and I had to hide my eyes numerous times. I mean a clown ventriloquist named Cornelious?!!? You just KNOW that is some bad juju right there. But plot wise the movie was just not snappy enough. Hands down the best actor in it was Donnie Wahlberg. And getting to sing "Whoa oh oh oh oh, whoa oh oh..oh. The Right Stuff" at kidlet and inappropriate moments was funnah.

And now it is time for me to cruise cable and figure out what program I want to be involved with when the cable guy shows up to screw it up. Have a lovely weekend and y'all come back now, ya hear?

And What You Leave Behind You Don't Miss Anyway

Oh lordy, what a month. July is always just a beyotch at the office. I did manage to get everything out on time though which is a minor clouds parting, angel chorus miracle. But I have been so busy what with dealing with car issues and cat issues and kid issues that I have been slack on both posting and visiting. Mea Culpa!

This is a teeny tiny post until later this evening when I hope to get home and relax and do a wrap up for y'all. I shall share my view on the movie Dead Silence, my thoughts on Ventriloquist dummies and why I love corn nuts.
