Context And The Stupid Fucking Public- The John Mayer Debate

This started out as a rant on a friend's Facebook page and then I said fuck it, blog it. The whole John Mayer broohaahah has reached EPIC fucking stupidity when he is lumped together with a woman beater like Chris Brown, a deadbeat dad like Gosslin and Tiger HO HO HO I GOT WOODS.Putting Mayer in that category is really really insulting to anyone who ever has been abused. Period. It's just not funny. *I* don't find it funny.

To everyone getting your panties in a wad, have you read the entire Playboy interview with him? Or are you just going off of your fucking brain trusts Twitter on it? If you are a woman and are all offended by his woman hating, gosh she was so hot I couldn't stop banging her comments, I gotta ask. No one ever tell you that you were good in bed? With that fucked up repressed attitude I am not surprised. And guys? Jealous much? Cause come the fuck on, if you were him you'd be riding that pussy wagon too.

He had nothing but wonderful things to say about Aniston, last I checked being called sexual napalm is a compliment and he quite rightly pointed out that if he DID have a "hood pass" he COULD call it a nigger pass. He was pointing out the inherent contradiction in that term. And oh yes, I used that word. Because sometimes, just fucking sometime, the context in which it is used is to argue an intellectual point and NOT to be used as fucking racial slur. ARE WE SO FUCKING STUPID WE DON'T GET THE DIFFERENCE?! Because people have STOPPED looking at context and now only believe the sound bites they have been fed by the media. And some wonder just why our society is going to shit. Because most people are fucking stupid. FUCKING STUPID.

As for the David Duke cock comment? While it probably was not the smartest thing to say I am also fairly sure that pretty much everyone has one type and/or race that just does not do it for them as a sexual turn on. The sad fact is that in PLAYBOY freakin magazine - again back to context here, it's FUCKING PLAYBOY - someones sexual preference gets blown out of proportion. Guess I got a David Duke twat cause sorry my Hispanical Friends but the Latin Lover does nothing for me. Alert the fucking media. I am obviously a racist.

I am sure this has probably pissed some long time readers off, and if that is the case, well, too fucking bad. We can agree to disagree and quite frankly if you are really, truly, deeply as morally offended by Mayer's interview as you are by Chris Brown bashing the shit out of a woman, well frankly I don't fucking care if I offended you. If you think he is racist for the use of the word nigger (oh shiz I used it again!!) when we have idiot people hanging our Black President in effigy, well then go suck a bag of dicks.

Oh and to provide a little CONTEXT here is the interview.

On The Road, But You Got No Destination - TT#48

It's no secret I tend to be music oriented or obsessed if you listen to my family but this time around I thought I would try something a bit more ambitious than your basic shuffle. This time around I am shooting to tell you a bit of the story of my life...autobiographically! Now 13 songs is just not enough so please realize this is a mere smidgen of my existence. TEENY.

1. Aquarius - Hair Broadway Soundtrack. I am born. Now this NOT the horrid 5th dimension version that sucks ASS compared to the original Broadway cast recordings. This is the real deal. This album and The Moody Blues Days of Future Past were my first two "real" records outside of Mary Poppins. I was 7 I think? Red Plastic Suitcase Record Player days, baby! We will not speak of the gawd-awful movie.

2. Philadelphia Freedom -Elton John- I LOVED this song when I was a wee one. Loved Elton in general but this was my favorite song evah. Check out Soul Train, people. Those clothes! And I don't mean Elton's. And thanks to Malcolm for the correction!

3. Dreamboat Annie - Heart - Remember Ann Wilson when she was thin? The running joke on this entire album is that it was what my mother would play as she drove back and forth over the Golden Gate Bridge. Where we would be after she pulled me out of bed in Salt Lake City and DROVE to cause she was pissed at my dad. I shit you not :P

We leave the 70's with many other songs and memories unmined. A close one for the actual list is Boston's More Than A Feeling. I used to play that on my fathers UBER COMPONENTS. On the down low. Cause I might fuck up the diamond needle ya know. I gloat to this day about playing that album after school every day ;)

As we move into the 80's there are also several songs that almost but not quite made it. ELO's Don't Bring Me Down...roller disco anyone? The Buggle's Video Killed The Radio Star which of course heralded the beginning of the MTV Era and brings me to 80 choice numero uno.

4. Rio - Duran Duran Fanatic Fan reporting for duty. I had, gosh.... lemme think. One...two...three..........8 posters in my room. I was a John Girl in case y'all are wondering. And I can still tell you their birthdays!

5. Let's Go To Bed from The Cure is here to represent both my love of 80s British bands from Ska to Punk to New Wave to, naturally, Goth. Suck it up Robert, you and Siouxsie and Eldritch and Murphy are ALL Goth. They may deny it now but each and every one of them is in fact so Goth (and by that I mean the original incarnation not the Hot Topic Emo Tard or the Kindergothen of today) that they fart bats.

The list of bands I could have popped in here is staggering. But we were are gonna let non-bloated Robert rep for the entire continent. Special Huggles to The Smiths and And Depeche.New Order. And Bauhaus. And The Specials. And The Clash. And........

Ahhh... High School. This is was a no brainer and yet could have been a close second to In Your Eyes, since Say Anything is both my all time favorite 80's movie and uncomfortably autobiographical. Oh and Valley Girl was also right on up there and I Melt With You is another strong candidate.

But in the end I went with the movie that I remember seeing in the theater so vividly I can tell you to this day what I was wearing. A white shirt with what looked like pastel brush swashes in pastel colors of purple, blue, peach and pink. Light blue checked jeans and white ballet flats. And Tatiana perfume. Which I pretty much wore from 1983 to 1990. I went with Jill, Tina, the dorks they were dating, and the infamous Todd and Jason combo. We saw it at Valley River cinemas in Eugene. Ladies and Gentleman #6 with a bullet - Don't You Forget About Me By Simple Minds and The Breakfast Club by John Hughes biographer of Generation X.

Now let's talk U2. I have loved this band from the day I first heard I Will Follow in Diana's Record Store in Eugene Oregon in 1981 when I was all of 12 years old. They are indeed the soundtrack of my life and my all time favorite band. As such I could pretty much put them anywhere in the last 26 years. They are the background music to every major event in my life and damn near all the minor ones as well. We are gonna go with the Streets cause it's would kinda be sacrilegious not to. 21 years ago this was the turning point for U2, #7 Where The Streets Have No Name.

8. Welcome to the Jungle - Guns And Roses - This is another 80's song albeit a late 80's song but it is here to represent my move out of Eugene and up to Portland. This was the first album I bought when I moved here. Jason and Todd thought I was nuts. I thought Axl Rose kicked the ass of every other metal band out there. To me this kinda herald in what I loosely term as adulthood since, really, your 20's are just teen years with more alcohol.

So now we enter the 90's. By 1991 I was divorced from ex-husband #1, hanging out with ex-husband #2 and the Kinda Ex Boyfriend. Conveniently when I moved out of the marital abode, Ex #2 and The Kinda Ex (who happens to Ex #2's cousin and Ex #1's best friend) all move in together. Can you say clusterfuck? We are the children of divorce, the original latch key kids and raised by televison. Our friends became our family. Bet those of you who are older watch movies like Clerks and Reality Bites and Singles and wonder if Gen Xer's are really that fucked up. Short answer? Yes we are.

Here We Are Now - Entertain Us.

9. Smells Like Teen Spirit- Nirvana

So regular readers will by now have figured out that I did marry again in 1993 to Ex #2 after first dealing with the total disintegration of The Kinda Ex. Yay Drugs! Oddly enough I loved the 90's. Or at least the first part of them. The later ones when you are dumped for a video game and your marriage goes down the shitter, not so much. Appropriately enough, right after my Titanic Obsession, this cheery little ditty came along. Thank God I didn't blog then, I'd have driven masses to suicide. But with a chuckle cause those old diaries are bleak as hell but rather funny. A select few of my readers have read them. Poor babies!

10. Iris - The Goo Goo Dolls

So yeah drama. Free advice to gamer widows everywhere. Playing said game ain't gonna fix the problems. A headphone favorite from my Everquest years and the birth of my alter ego, Starrlight. Not the real video cause SONY BMG sucks ass. #11. Meet Virginia - Train

At this point we are moving to the 00's. And I suppose the big story here is my ex bf and my time spent in Atlanta. Much Ado About Nothing or Slackers Rule. In honor of the good and the bad and my future home, let's all ask, #12 Why Georgia? - John Mayer

Lucky #13 is of course, Beautiful Day from U2. It's my anthem. Ya just gotta keep on keepin on, folks and remember to stop and look around. The little things count as much as the things that tie you up in knots.

Just Keep Me Where The Light Is

I was pondering my earlier post this week on my Thursday Thirteen and Bond's post on Huddie Ledbetter Leadbelly and RWA's post on Clapton and the song Layla and I have guitarists on the brain.

There are a lot of technically proficient guitarists out there but it is a rare breed that plays with that obvious love of the guitar and particularly Blues guitar. Perhaps that is why I have such an affection for John Mayer.

And seeing as how he hangs with BB and Eric and John Lee Hooker, I suppose I am not the only one. He's in an odd position in that I think most folks think of him as a "pop singer" and while it may be true that his can craft one hell of a pop song, it's his blues influenced work that really sets him apart. Hell, he can even make Timberlake sound like he's got soul. This, my friends, is talent. Yes, the above 2 minute clip is the interlude portion of Justin Timberlake's Love Stoned/I Think She Knows. John is so frickin talented it hurts. If you are one of those trapped in the Your Body Is A Wonderland mindset, give this one a listen.

Slow Dancing In A Burning Room

So I bit the bosses head off twice today. Not bad, not bad. It was not totally off the wall ballistic. Just, well, snarky.

Took the kidlet lunch at her dad's. Get this, she stubbed her toe on the treadmill and split the top of her toe open.

The Ex (BF Variety) who also happened to be a Sagittarius warned me about this. Archer types are supposedly accident prone. How lucky am I? I am pondering TV tonight. What do we have? Top Chef?

Bleh. I already miss Survivor and Idol can not start soon enough.

Yes. I am a Reality TV Ho.

You Should Have Seen That Sunrise

Whew. I am having a day. Got a headache. Got a serious case of the cranky, foot-stomping "I don't wanna" going on here. And I am not really DOING anything! Bleh.

Went surfing the web for a bit and felt I should compensate for my lack of post for 6 days(!) by shooting for two today. Only thing I will probably shoot is myself. In the foot. Oh the pressure!

Jesus I whine a lot :p

I have a new Rolling Stone waiting on me at home. I just have a grocery store and helping small child with 2 days of homework standing between me and it. And that thing they call dinner that you are supposed to provide your progeny.

I did catch Monday Night Football with U2 and Green Day. They were fun together. The game was awesome, but I felt like a traitor cheering against the Falcons. But it was the right thing to do, cause the Saints need deserved to have that night. Kiddobean and I were both like, "whoa" when they started playing Wake Me Up When September Ends and the guitarist was Edge. It was weird! Fun but weird. They need to do a co-headliner tour where they both play 2 hour shows. Save me the arena parking guys!

Going to the Foo Foo house this weekend in the woods. I am already making alarmed noises about my father's proposed "short hike." My dad has NO CLUE what a short hike is. He is going to Ecuador in January to climb mountains. He has totally lost touch with the reality of a "short hike." I live in fear. Once he took my kid and her dad on a "short hike" and the ex began to call him "Paul Pot" afterwards and making comments on the Bataan Death Trail he was dragged on. And I am on the ex's side her. That should put it in perspective.

Project Runway tonight!

Alrighty, off to kick my printer and hurt my foot. Yes that is what will happen and yes, knowing this, I will still kick said printer.

Old dog, no new tricks.

PS - By old dog, yes I am acknowledging my inner bitch.

PSS - I heard the new Rockstar Supernova song today. They made Lucas stop singing like he was practicing genital torture. It was good. I hate myself for liking it.

Call Me Sally Fields!

You like me! A very big thank you to The Thinker over at Theory of Thought for my 3rd place award in her So You Think You Can Blog? contest. Having read the other folks who entered, I am quite surprised and pleased to have received this. And go read her blog, people. This girl has the it factor in spades.

Had a lovely weekend and did not work at all. As you can tell by the fact that I was incogblogo all weekend. Went to see John Mayer and Sheryl Crow at the Ampitheater in Ridgefield, Wa and it was awesome. I love Sheryl, Globe sessions was my divorce album. And I have loved John Mayer going back to seeing him in 2001 before he was THE John Mayer. He's smart, sarcastic, gorgeous and he has talent. The best part was watching the teeny boppers get all confused at his concert. It was heavly blues leaning and man o man they all looked like confused pigeons. He didn't play Wonderland which is just fine by me. Prolly broke their lil hearts.

So Monday I am off with a headache and a flat tire. Fun. Tuesday I am off cause kiddobean has tummy troubles. Woke me up at 3 in the morning. Urgh. She is better now, and at school.

I am being bad and bloggin as my computer application is off limits while they reboot it. Not that it will help much, my system is like being on a 26k back in 1997. Oh and they screwed up my paycheck AGAIN!

Grrr. Anyhow back to work. Go read The Thinker right now. Go on...shoo!
